Waka chuckled as Cedar disagreed with Kasugami. The other woman god was quick to whine about it though not in any sort of intelligent way. Instead she’d groaned loudly and Waka could imagine her shaking her head and rolling her eyes. He didn’t turn to look however, his eyes locked on the shore. Luckily there was no longer any rampaging water dragon to make things more dangerous for them.

“If that is what you wish for,” Waka murmured to Cedar.

It grew quiet after that, Cedar settling against him more fully as he jogged over the waves. Perhaps she was too tired to appreciate the very act of walking over water like this. In the morning, when she had gotten sleep, Waka would take to teasing her about her lack of enthusiasm for the act.

Waka was quiet, no one intent on talking now. Perhaps everyone was busy taking it all in in their own way. If that was the case then Waka didn’t want to begrudge them that chance to sort their thoughts out.

With every second that passed the shore grew steadily closer. They were just lucky that the graying Nuregami had not taking Cedar further out. He resisted moving faster and leaving the other two gods behind. He couldn’t be sure if they’d be snatched up if he wasn’t near to keep an eye on them.

“Holding up all right, ma chérie?” Waka murmured eventually, continuing his ministrations with his thumb. It would still be several minutes until they reached the sandy shore again.

Oki reacted more readily to the next kiss, his hand finding its way to her cheek. Even then he’d leaned in to deepen it as well. Mari smiled into the kiss, breaking away just far and long enough to say “You’ve become quite bold my cute, cute wolf.”

It was something she found endearing in him. With that said she kissed him fully again, a pleased sound escaping her only to be muffled by his lips. He was so warm, his lips surprisingly soft considering the snowy environment he lived within. She tangled her fingers in his hair, nipping at his bottom lip as she did.

The chilly night air seemed irrelevant more so now than before, wrapped up in her own little world with Oki. His touch was gentle though much more confident than when they’d briefly hugged the few times in the north. Perhaps the time she’d been away and meeting back up had been what they needed in order to be together like this now.

Mari would wait until Oki responded to do anything further, breaking apart only for air. Oki didn’t seem to be in a rush to pull away from her or to suggest they head back inside to sleep. Perhaps he was just as eager for this time together as she was.

Silence overtook what little conversation there was. Cedar was too tired to try and bring up other topics. Her nerves were drained. If she hadn't been so tired, she might have admired it all.

Waka's ministrations were simple but comforting. Leaning against him as she was, she could have fallen asleep. He was warm, lulling her into a little sleep.

His words woke her briefly. The question was simple and she shook her head a little. "I'm just tired," she replied, "I'm alright otherwise."

They hadn't seen that gray snake again. She was thankful for that. Cedar briefly wondered if she and the others were really safe in the city now. The snake had swooped in so fast and fled so easily. What if other creatures could do that too.

"You took too long," she commented quietly, "Shame on you. I was afraid you weren't going to come."

Of course, she had quite a bit of faith in him at this point. She merely teased him weakly, well aware that he might tease her back. She didn't quite mind that right now.

Her words were brief, enticing ones. He found he was more than happy to hear them. Boldness was in him in many ways. These actions were foreign to him however. He was somewhat proud to be leaning into them with less awkwardness.

He leaned in again, testing the waters carefully. He didn't want to do anything too bold, fully knowing that he might be treading too far. Instead, he waited to see how she would react.

When she seemed to lean in a little more, he nipped lightly at her lips. It was a sweeter action, not too hard against her soft skin.

They broke apart for air only to come together again. He wrapped an arm around her, keeping her close. Once more, he nibbled at her lips lightly, feeling a little bolder than before. He found himself happy they were alone and able to have this moment together.

A part in her lips let him slip his tongue in slightly, carefully. He felt for any tension her body, hoping that he wasn't going too far.

He felt lighter than air, his heart hammering against his chest in response. He hoped she felt the same.

It wasn’t until they were only a few yards from the sand again did Waka slow to a walk. Behind him he could hear Moegami and Kasugami breathing heavily. Neither seemed to be in shape though this didn’t surprise Waka too much. The gods, as they were might have been curiously split between human and animal forms though why he couldn’t say. Perhaps their human counterparts suffered from more normal things like the effects of heavy drink or smoking because of it.

He shook the thought away, focusing on Cedar. She didn’t appear to be injured though she was clearly exhausted. Letting her rest before they planned anything would be best. This sort of thing, Waka needed the input of those that would be accompanying him after all. The future couldn’t be read just yet, his prophecies useless for the night until he had time to see to them.

When Cedar answered it was only when his sandals had hit the sand, sinking only briefly due to the give of the ground. He could also hear Kasugami yawn loudly behind him as well.

“Things had to be gathered,” he explained to Cedar quietly. He paused long enough to plant a kiss at the top of her head before he continued on. “Next time I will be quicker.”

It was the most he could promise right now when she was still so unused to her own powers. Everything seemed to be a confusing jumble at the moment and no one had any idea of what to do about it, least of all Waka. He’d need to take some time to try to read the future and see what might happen. His memories of recent times in Celestia were fuzzy or out of his grasp, perhaps peering into the future would give him clearer images of what had happened.

Mari’s words seemed to be all Oki needed to grow ever bolder. He met her eagerly, nibbling at her lip and slipping an arm around her to keep her close to him. Only the need to pause for air kept them from continuing and then only briefly.

Her stomach felt like it was swarming with butterflies, a pleasant and light feeling. Oki’s arm around her, keeping her close, made her feel safe and secure. He was a capable man and yet even he had this softer side to him. It was endearing to see and experience, his shy actions growing bolder as time passed.

Surprise caused her heart to skip a beat as Oki deepened the kiss further, his actions rather hesitant now. Mari moaned into the kiss, meeting Oki’s tongue with hers. The feeling was a new one, one that left her heart fluttering in response. She hoped Oki felt the same way.

Mari would have happily continued to kiss and cuddle with Oki like this, wondering just how bold he was tonight, before her stomach growled quietly. She groaned before pulling away just enough to meet Oki’s gaze, a sheepish look crossing her face. She hoped Oki didn’t misread her intentions. He looked a little curious, maybe even a little hesitant again.

“My stomach’s growling for food,” she explained sheepishly. Her face felt a little warm just with the admittance. Something so simple was enough to distract her from time spent with Oki like this.

Cedar kept her fingers wrapped around the little bottle. Not so long ago, she'd been trapped in it. It was almost unbelievable that this thing was hers now. Maybe that was for the best.

Being back on land made her feel a little more at ease. Cedar could only really hope that whatever that snake was, it didn't return. She didn't want to see it again if she could help it.

"That's alright," she finally forgave after Waka had spoken, "At least you came."

She didn't very well think she would be abandoned. The island was so far from the city that she wasn't sure she could be found however. That was possible the intention, she was well aware.

"We're almost back, right...?" she questioned, her tone groggy.

She'd never felt so tired. All she wanted to do was curl up in a warm bed and sleep the night and maybe some of the day away. That seemed like a grand plan in her mind.

She was bold for affection, clear by her own actions. She leaned into the kiss so easily, meeting his tongue with her own. He felt warm, his heart pounding against his chest.

Oki toyed with her hair, wanting to lean in deeper. Before he could do that, Mari broke away. It wasn't a moment later did he realize why. Her stomach had growled, no doubt embarrassing her a little.

Mari's face dusted red a little when she spoke. It was obvious she felt momentary awkwardness due to the interruption. Oki let a short chuckle pass his lips.

"You've neglected eating this passed day and a half," he replied, carefully stroking her hair, "I suppose I can let it slide this time."

He got up before he held out his hand to help her to her feet. Oki felt a little stiff so no doubt, she would do. They had been sitting for quite some time.

"I can warm your meal up," he state, opening the door for her, "Kushi won't mind it."

It would simply be tending to the embers that still lay in the little pit. Mari would be able to eat afterward. In some sense, Oki was revealed. He was a little afraid she'd go without another meal if this odd sleeping sickness hit again.

Cedar’s words were barely above a murmur, a testament to just how tired she must be. It was probably best this way considering Moegami and Kasugami following behind him. He’d rather not show a more tender side with either present when he was so well known for stirring things up. It was almost embarrassing to think they might overhear.

“Just a bit longer, mon trésor,” Waka answered back.

Sei-an City was already in sight, the gates just up ahead. Past that the city proper would be seen, torches lighting the way as they’d head down the steep slope. Behind him he could hear Moegami grumbling about something or other that the other god woman had said. Honestly, Waka had been listening to either.

The guards posted at the gates into Sei-an nodded as they recognized him. Waka spared only a quick glance at either before brushing past them.

”Just ignore him~!” Kasugami chimed in, sounding far more lucid than she had hours before. The fact that she hadn’t had a moment to indulge in her alcoholism no doubt helped.

“There’s little time for chatting when a little food and rest is more inviting,” Waka answered simply.

Though he’d grown confused briefly it wasn’t long before Oki understood Mari suddenly pulling away from him. Though her stomach growling so loudly again was still embarrassing he understood, already rising to his feet. His mask was already back in place before he’d stood fully, offering a hand to her.

“It’s been that long?” Mari wondered. It didn’t feel like it but then she’d slept through much of it.

Slipping her hand into his, Mari stood, her knees stiff and her movements a little sluggish even now. Though she felt more awake than she had been that day she felt a drowsiness washing over her slowly now that her heart rate slowed to a more normal pace and she was no longer quite happily distracted by Oki and his affections.

“Is that all right? It’s not a big house…” Mari pointed out.

Any kind of noise would be easy to hear from another room and it wasn’t like Itegami was away from that main room where they’d be. Still, maybe Oki was used to being quiet because of small houses like this. Wep’keer had quite small huts for everyone to live in after all.

Nonetheless, Mari followed after Oki. Inside it was noticeably warmer even if only embers remained in the fire pit.

Cedar was glad they were closer to the city now. She was trying to keep herself from lulling to sleep. By all means, her stomach felt empty. Something warm to eat would have been nice.

Whatever was being said between the two other gods was hushed. Cedar didn't pay much mind to the chatter, short as it was. Everything was more or less in a fog.

The woman spoke up again, telling someone to ignore them. Cedar glanced up in time to see the guards. She dipped her head a little afterward, her cheeks feeling a little warm.

"I can agree with that," she answered quietly.

Now that they were within the city walls, Cedar relaxed a little. Her grip lessened on the glass bottle. Her muscles ached with the stress and tension. A warm bath would have been pleasant if she could manage it.

Cedar hardly noticed when Waka made his leap back up to what she called home now. At the given moment, she was far too tired. Sat on her feet once more, she walked back and waited on the other two to be brought up as well. She leaned against the railing, anxious to merely sit down, eat, and find a warm bed to sleep in.

He nodded in response. She had slept through most of the day. She didn't even eat when they returned. He really did worry about this odd sleeping illness. Whatever was happening to her, he could only assume at this point.

"Yes. You slept through dinner, don't you recall? None of us could rouse you," he explained, "It was quite strange. Normally you're very content when you're eating."

That was more or less a habit that he'd noticed over time. She ate quite a bit for someone so skinny. That didn't bother Oki in the slightest. In some sense, it was a little cute.

Walking inside, he closed the door quietly behind them. They wouldn't disturb the others if they could help it. The hospitality they had been shown since coming here was enough. He didn't want to wake anyone in the middle of the night.

"It will be fine," he replied quietly, "Kushi was a little worried. She wanted to make sure you had something to eat."

It was a simple task fanning the fire to life again. After years of practice in a snowy area, it was easy here. Tossing a bit of kindling on the fire again fed the flame. From there it was simply placing what was left in the pot.

"It shouldn't take long," he whispered, sparing her a smile, "Don't whither away on me now."

Once inside Sei-an City it hadn’t taken long to tread the familiar roads to the area Waka always leapt up from to his home and headquarters in Nippon. In his short time away the Tao Warriors had taken care of it before his return from the Celestial Plain. His reasons for returning were still forgotten though now was not the time to dwell on such things.

Leaping up with Cedar in his arms was a simple task, setting her down to make the trip twice more for Kasugami and Moegami. If any would ever find an easier way to make their way to the floating building themselves it would be easier on him but for now this was the way it had to be. Once all three were up with him he shepherded them inside, insisting on getting a warm meal and some sleep sooner rather than later.

Waka neglected to mention that he’d be up for much of the night to come, thinking and planning as best that he could. Perhaps some foresight into events to come might be needed as well.

”God damn, stop actin’ like we’re kids or something,” Moegami scoffed, tossing a glare Waka’s way. It was quickly shrugged off.

“Kids?” Waka echoed, cocking his head to one side. Why would Moegami be speaking of baby goats at a time like this? He shook the thought away. “Come now, surely even you are hungry!”

Kasugami chuckled, striding ahead towards the kitchen. “You’re so cranky, Moe!”

Mari blinked, shaking her head a second after. Someone had tried to wake her up for dinner? Even when she thought back on it she couldn’t recall any of that happening. ’I must have been out.’ All the same Oki did have a point, she did like eating when she could.

Instead of commenting on it, Mari followed along behind him, sitting near the fire pit where he joined her seconds after. Nearby Itegami slept, snoring softly. It looked like only Oki had heard her wake up and follow her outside. Perhaps for the best that way, Mari didn’t dwell on it. Instead she watched as he took to feeding some kindling to the embers, fanning them back into life carefully afterwards.

“Kushi’s a sweetie-pie,” Mari murmured. It wasn’t hard to imagine the young woman fretting because Mari had slept through dinner.

Her stomach growled as the pot was hung over the fire to warm. Whatever was left inside might be quite simple but it smelled nice as it warmed. Trying to ignore her growing hunger, Mari turned to Oki to stick her tongue out at him for his teasing.

“You’d miss me too much.” With that said Mari yawned, resisting the urge to lean against Oki again. At least outside it would have been easier to hear or see someone coming along and separate. Inside Kushi or Itegami could wake up at any minute without warning.

Cedar had leaned lazily onto the railing until Waka brought the other two up. She tried to keep her eyes from drooping though it was difficult. She just wanted to sleep.

Eventually, when the others were rounded up, they walked inside the building. Cedar's feet dragged a little, a lack of bump in her step. She tried not to focus on it. Whatever chatter was about more or less faded into the background for her.

Moegami's voice reached her briefly, loud as it could be at times. She spared a glance at him but nothing more. He was on about being treated like a child or something. Cedar didn't quite pay attention.

"Waka plays," she finally spoke up, "You can play his game too. But it'd be less fun for him if you did."

Cedar was aware that even her voice still sounded tired. She ignored it for the time being, focusing on following after Waka. Walking into the main dining room was more than a relief for her.

When she sat down, she felt as if she didn't want to move again. Without the adrenaline coursing through her, her limbs felt sore and shaky.

She ran a hand through her hair, leaning against the table before she spoke, "I think I could sleep like the dead at this rate..."

Oki didn't miss the expression on her face. She never stirred when they tried to wake her earlier. Leaving her be seemed the best option at the time. She hadn't stirred until long after everyone had gone to sleep.

If it worried Mari, she didn't touch on it right away. She seemed to want to focus on other times. On occasion, Oki would lean forward, tug the lid off the pot and stir the contents inside. This filled that silence for a short time.

"She is very kind," Oki agreed, "I am finding most people in this village are. It is a comfort to know we've some people to rely on."

She was no doubt hungry. Oki resisted a chuckle as her stomach protested loudly once again. He tried to think of this as something looking up now. At least she was awake and on her feet.

A yawn didn't quite escape him at that moment, however. Worry nagged at him once more. Was she going to fall asleep and not wake up again?

"Indeed I would," he replied lightly, "I'm afraid I wouldn't quite like a long journey without you about."

He spared her a grin that she wouldn't see. In the time since they'd met, he'd gotten more confident and open. In some sense, he knew Mari appreciated that.

Cedar didn’t have much to say as they headed towards the kitchen. Or rather, Waka herded them in that direction. Cedar needed some food in her belly before she slept after that ordeal and he was sure that Kasugami wouldn’t turn down a bit of food either. Moegami might be stubborn, however.

Eventually Cedar to speak up, mentioning something about Waka’s games. He merely smiled and offered a shrug at the accusatory look Moegami shot him. Had he really not realized it, or did the god just not like that fact being brought up out loud? Waka didn’t dwell on it; instead he fussed over Cedar a bit. If anything he’d at least be a little more behaved than usual for the moment.

“Now, now, not before you’ve gotten a bite to eat!” he chimed in cheerily.

Already Kasugami had strode ahead of them, disappearing into the kitchen. Waka, Cedar and Moegami followed seconds later, finding it otherwise empty of other people. Perhaps that was best; no one needed to be probed by curious eyes or questions after what had happened.

”Here!” Kasugami called out, shoving a chunk of bread into Cedar’s hand. In Kasugami’s other hand she already had a bit of bread for herself. Crumbs around her mouth told Waka that she’d already started eating.

“Ah, even our little sheep agrees!” Waka pointed out, smiling at Cedar.

”If you start calling me ‘bird’ I’m gonna fucking kick you,” Moegami grumbled, heading to the counter where a bowl of fruit was situated.

Occasionally Oki took to stirring the contents of the pot, the fire crackling beneath it. The embers that took briefly to the air licked the bottom of the pot before they became nothing but ash a second after. Mari felt a little spoiled with how Oki took to heating up and tending to the leftovers while she sat and waited. Still, being stubborn and taking to the task herself might end up waking Itegami if not Kushi as well if Oki was just as stubborn to do it himself.

At least the conversation that cropped up gave her something to do during the wait. It would have been harder to ignore her growling stomach otherwise.

“C’mon, who could refuse a cutie like me?” Mari joked, gesturing to herself as she flashed a sleepy smile. ’He must have been worried about it though,’ she mused briefly afterwards.

Oki’s own joke about Mari’s scrawniness carried the light conversation forward further. Still, he sounded sincere when he teased her about not looking forward to a long travel if she weren’t here. For a minute Mari wasn’t sure how to answer to that. Though she couldn’t be sure Mari thought he might be smiling behind that mask of his, with that in mind she smiled too.

“I’m not going anywhere, you know,” she pointed out.

Only a brief moment passed before Mari leaned towards him, placing a quick kiss on the nose of his mask. Her smile was decidedly more teasing as she pulled away. Oki might be more confident while they were alone but Itegami or Kushi could wake up at any time now.

If Moegami thought of anything about her words, he didn't say it. The only thing that really was brought up next was getting her something to eat. Waka seemed keen on fussing over her. In those instances, she didn't so much mind it.

Sat down now, she relaxed a little more. She wanted to lay her head on the table. Cedar fought the urge in favor of leaning back into the chair.

It didn't take long for a bit of bread to be thrust into her hand. Cedar was quick to thank the nameless woman. She realized she had yet to get her name. When she was a little less tired, she'd remember to ask.

She tore off a bit of the bread and started to eat, chewing slowly. Already, her stomach was starting to feel a little better. More than half the day without food did enough.

"I'm sorry if I snapped at anyone earlier," she brought up. She was well aware that she had and felt guilty for it, "I break under pressure rather easily. I didn't mean anything by it. I was just scared."

Moegami might have gotten on her nerves but that didn't mean she should have pushed him as she did. It was the same with this new found god as well. She just wanted them to know that she hadn't meant it.

Aside from the crackle of the fire, it was mostly quiet. Those in the home who slept didn't seem disturbed by the hushed words. Oki didn't want to wake them if he could help it.

When the silence was broken again, he spared her a smile. He was sure there were some who would pick on her over that line back in his home. Samickle was certainly the type to.

"Not many," he replied lightly, "And I certainly wouldn't be able to either."

He sat back for a brief few seconds to relax. The quiet was nice, especially so when they had a private moment or two. It felt like they hadn't shared much since the first time, after all.

He blinked when she spoke up again. Catching his attention just in time, he chuckled a little as she placed a kiss on the tip of his mask. It was a brief thing but warmed him considerably.

"I know you won't," he replied afterward, "If you did, I would just have to come find you again."

He had a feeling she wouldn't be running off anytime soon. Now that things were more or less settled and he was comfortable, he'd grown rather attached to her. Oki would ensure that she didn't run off on him again.

Once Waka was sure the three gods had something to eat, he waltzed over to grab a little something for himself. It wasn’t much—a peach, actually—but he’d be up for some time in the night and could eat again later. For now he’d make sure they ate and that Kasugami had a place to rest and then he would plan and think things over.

He kept an eye on Cedar mostly. She was the one who’d endured the most, after all, and she’d be the most in danger of going into shock if nothing else. For the most part she seemed fine, though she ate slowly. No doubt she had much on her mind.

“Hm?” Waka was broken from his thoughts when Cedar spoke, breaking the silence that had settled over them all.

”Tch! You’re talking too much again,” Moegami scoffed.

Kasugami merely waved Cedar’s words off. From the looks of them all they were about ready to fall asleep were they stood. The sooner they were all done eating the better. Still, it wasn’t like Waka could rush them through that, as much as he might like to. He forced himself to remain patient.

“Now, now~,” Waka chided. “Let’s all get along, shall we?”

Mari smiled a little, scratching at her cheek at Oki’s answer. She’d had a feeling he had a hard time telling her ‘no’ in more recent days but she hadn’t been sure of it. All the same, it was a little flattering to hear it. It was something she’d have to make sure not to abuse, it would be all too easy to for anyone.

The topic moved on passed that, giving Mari time for a quick and brief show of affection. Even before she’d pulled away Oki was chuckling. The soft sound was muffled further by his mask though in the quiet around them Mari easily heard it. It was a sound she liked to hear, she realized.

“At least I know you’ll come find me if something happens,” she pointed out softly.

With that said Mari allowed the topic to slide. There was little point in going on about it now, especially when her stomach grumbled again. The smell of the food as it heated up filled her nose, and already her mouth was watering. She hadn’t realized just how hungry she really was until now.

Gesturing to the pot, she turned back to Oki and said, “Okiii, is it done yet?” Honestly, she wouldn’t have minded eating it cold but Oki had already started to fan the embers back to life that Mari hadn’t had the heart to stop him.

Cedar leaned back, eating slowly. She tried to ignore whatever lingering anxieties still clung to her mind. They were hard to shake after that ordeal. So much had happened in such a short time.

For the most part, Moegami waved off her words. She had expected as such but she felt better apologizing anyways. There was no point in burning bridges when she had so few in the first place.

"It makes me feel better anyways," she pointed out, taking a small bite out of her bread.

She wanted to finish it off as quickly as possible but her stomach still churned a little. It would be some time before it settled completely, not feeling so tight in knots.

"I'd really just rather sleep now..." she finally carried on.

By the looks of things, the other two were in a bit of agreement. They all looked beat, even Waka. Knowing him, however, he wouldn't be heading off to bed anytime soon. Cedar figured he'd be up later, doing something or other.

Whatever bashfulness might have remained in Mari quickly disappeared. She was focused on many things. Something to eat, him, staying warm. As long as she wasn't falling asleep again, he didn't mind any of it.

He offered her another chuckle as she spoke. Though her voice still sounded groggy, she was still up. No doubt, she was enticed by the smells around her. The meal they had eaten was warming up quickly.

"I couldn't very well leave you run off on your own," he pointed out a little lightly, "And I'm not likely to let it happen a second time."

One time was enough. Now that there was actual danger involved, he wouldn't be letting her out of his sight often. With this sleeping sickness, he had doubts that she'd be running off on her own however.

His thoughts were broken when she asked about the food. Momentarily, it was forgotten. He reached out, lifting the lid. Steam poured out of the pot, the stew inside already at a slow boil.

"I think you may be able to eat now," he replied, pulling the lid back fully. Only afterward did he grab a bowl. Stirring the stew a little, he dished it out with the ladle left nearby and offered her the bowl, "Here. You look far too hungry now."

Whatever Moegami or Kasugami thought of Cedar’s apology and her assertion that it made her feel better they didn’t say anything about it. Maybe that was for the best with how exhausted they all looked. Waka couldn’t deny that he too was tired but he had work yet to do tonight. He would not mention this out loud, however, quite sure that Cedar might protest to this or try to stay up and help in some manner.

Waka made sure that they were all eating, though the women looked less hungry. Why Moegami was more eager to eat, Waka couldn’t say. For all he knew it might be Moegami’s way of coping or calming himself down. If that helped who was Waka to stop him from eating so quickly?

”Then why don’t you?” Kasugami wondered, tipping her head to one side.

If Cedar was that tired it would be best for her to rest. The last thing they all needed was for her to cause a torrential rain upon the city because she was too tired to control herself and her powers. Who knew what a sleep deprived god might be capable of after all? Waka shook the worrying thought away.

“If it’s sleep you desire then don’t push yourself for little ol’ us!” chimed Waka, ignoring the way that Moegami rolled his eyes in disgust.

”Seriously, don’t be an idiot,” Moegami grumbled. Waka wasn’t sure if he was talking to him or Cedar however.

Mari shifted, a little impatient, to eat something. If she was honest, going back to sleep afterwards was an enticing idea too. If she did that she’d no doubt worry Oki though who was already perturbed by the time she’d spent asleep so far. She wouldn’t mention that want for more sleep just now, when they had a moment alone.

Her thoughts scattered for the moment when Oki admitted to being less likely to leave her side. For a moment Mari didn’t know what to say to that. His words were still soft, perhaps wary about waking up Derek or even Kushi in the next room, and yet there was a warmth to them. Mari toyed with her fingers in thought for a moment before smiling sleepily in return.

“Well, just don’t go getting overbearing then I won’t mind that,” she agreed. Oki didn’t seem like the type to grow possessive and overbearing but a reminder here and there wouldn’t hurt. For all she knew he could actually be the jealous type, it wasn’t like she knew how he was in a relationship prior to this.

Quickly after that she asked about the food, the smell of it as it warmed up causing her stomach to growl more and more. Even if it wasn’t fully warmed up Mari wouldn’t mind digging into it now. A bit of cold food never hurt anyone, especially so when there wasn’t any winter weather outside to boot.

Mari’s smile stretched into an eager grin as Oki ladled out some of the stew into a bowl for her. It warmed her chilly hands quickly enough, the steam doing the same to her nose as she stirred some of it up first before actually eating.

Cedar wiped at her eyes, placing what was left of her food on the table. She was too tired to eat. Her stomach was still in knots. She just hoped that she could sleep over night as well.

At least after what happened, there was n arguments. Cedar would have probably broke emotionally if that had been the case. Thankfully, everyone seemed a little too tired.

"Years of manners and courtesy's beaten into me?" she answered the newest god that had joined their group, "Probably that."

Eventually she stood, sparing a brief nod and pushing in her chair. Even if her legs felt like led, she could at least drag herself to her room. A deep sleep awaited there.

"I'll turn in now," she finally said, "Good night. I'll see you all in the morning."

With that, she took her leave. She just wanted to curl up in a warm bed and sleep. The little bottle remained in her head as she went, unsure of what to do with it now that it was so small.

Mari accepted the bowl graciously. She looked hungry from where he sat. Without food for so long, it was no wonder. Oki worried about that a little. She was a skinny woman as it was.

A short chuckle left him at her words, though he remained quiet. He didn't want to disturb the others nearby. He would rather let them sleep.

"I will try to refrain from doing as such," he teased in response.

He sat back, comfortable with where he sat now. The house was warm, the fire having come back to life. Mari might have appreciated that as well. She always seemed to be a little colder than most.

"Eat your fill. I will wait up for a while longer. Call it paranoia," he said.

It was something of a warriors curse. Years of practice had left him restless toward possible enemies. Due to this, he did not often sleep too well at night.

Kasugami and Moegami were quick to dismiss Cedar’s comment about her past. It was an interesting tidbit. Manners beaten into her for years? Gods were not raised, but then there should not have been two Nuregamis either and yet there were. It was all even more confusing.

The question was, would this be the case for all of the brush gods?

Waka glanced up as Cedar stood, declaring that she was off to get some sleep. He rose to his feet quickly, striding towards her and taking her hand in his. The least he could do was to attempt to brighten her night before she turned in. It was an easy thin to ignore Moegami shaking his head while he did so.

“Allow me to wish you a restful sleep, ma chèrie,” he cooed, placing a quick kiss to the back of her hand.

Perhaps if Cedar was more awake she might have reacted more positively. Waka did not hold this against her, well aware that she was worn out and stressed. While they all were she had the brunt of it on her shoulders to contend with tonight.

With a brilliant smile he allowed her hand to slip from his while he straightened. It did not take her long to leave after that, ready for bed, though looking a little happier at his attempt to cheer her up. Minutes later Waka wandered out of the kitchen as well, leaving Kasugami and Moegami to their own devices. He had some work to see to that night.

The stew settled nicely in her belly, warming her immensely. It was nice compared to the chilly night air she’d just come in from. Oki sat quietly to the side, perhaps not hungry. Perhaps he wasn’t hungry again yet, having eaten with the others while Mari had slept.

The quiet that had followed was not unwelcome, if anything it was comfortable. She’d grown used to Oki at some point during her stay in Wep’keer before he’d reunited with her in Shinshu Field with Itegami.

Her gaze turned to Oki as he mentioned remaining up awhile longer. He seemed adamant about this though she hoped he’d gotten enough sleep. Arguing with Oki about it seemed pointless however. If anything it might just wake Itegami and Kushi up.

“If you’re sure,” she conceded.

It would not take her long after that to finish her first bowl and stew and to start in on a second. Mari was hungrier than she’d realized and since there was still plenty left she saw no reason not to indulge in seconds. It would be wasteful to just leave all of what was left after all. There wasn’t any surefire way to preserve food if it wasn’t dried and salted properly.

The time passed slowly and quietly through the rest of the night. Mari found herself dozing off and on during but mostly attempted to stay awake so as not to worry Oki. It wasn’t like she was sleep deprived as it was. Whatever was making her so sleepy, she couldn’t say.

Cedar was about to leave the room when Waka swept to her side, taking her hand. It was only a brief thing, placing a kiss to the back of it before bidding her a good night.

Like many other times, her face had warmed. She spared a small smile, nodding a little before she left for the evening. What the others did with their time now, she could only imagine. Everyone was exhausted, after all.

Once Cedar had returned to her room, she collapsed on the bed immediately, pulling the blankets over her body. For once it only too minutes to fall asleep.

The night was dreamless and quick. When she opened her eyes again, light was showing through the window. Even then, she didn't want to move. She was still tired.

Cedar sighed, snuggling in the blankets a little deeper. Surely if she was needed, someone would come get her. For now, Cedar figured babying herself for once wouldn't be a terrible thing.

The evening turned quiet, mostly the sounds of the night keeping some kind of noise between them. Mari ate her fill, a relief to Oki in the given situation. Even if she fell asleep again, he at least knew that her stomach would be full.

After she started to doze again, Oki took it upon himself to patrol the village. It was a short thing but he had his reasons. If this darkness spread across his entire home, what was it to say it wouldn't to others?

Even as days had passed, the entire thing still concerned Oki. Why was this happening now when there had been peace for so long? He wanted to know the answer.

Eventually, he returned to the house, quiet as to not wake anyone. He laid down and fell asleep son after. Rest would be for the best at the given time.

When he woke, Mari was still asleep. He reached out, shaking her gently. Surely she wouldn't sleep all day once again? He grew more concerned as this odd sleeping sickness went on.

"Mari, it is morning," he urged, "Surely you will not sleep through the entire day again?"
