It took a moment but Rhys did sit next to her. Funny, she would have thought he'd leave like so many others. But then he was already proving to be quite stubborn as she'd noted just a moment ago. Maybe it wasn't so surprising that he seemed to take to trailing after her already in just two short days.

The silence between them continued for some minutes. Naira didn't bother to try to count them, focusing on her game. Rhys' tension was noticeable though she hardly reacted to it. He had chosen to stay after all and so he could deal with it. She had no reason to play the part of calming friend.

She caught him gesturing to her ECHO finally, asking what she was doing. For a moment she debated on ignoring it entirely, favoring to focus on the battle she'd found herself part of in-game. Allowing her turn to pass, her team set to act accordingly, she eventually held the ECHO up in a silent invitation to take it and see for himself. It wasn't like there was any sensitive data on it for him to see at the moment anyways.

If nothing else it might make him look less like a kicked puppy right now.

The warmth from her combated the evening chill though they hardly needed to embrace to feel close. It was nice to lay like this on occasion though the lack of a good battle today left him a little restless. Zer0 did his best to remain like this, for her sake. It had been long since they'd laid like this. Not since before heading out for the Gortys core originally, if he wasn't mistaken.

"Of course you would have," he intoned, a hint of frustration seeping into his voice. Those first months traveling together had not been easy ones, after all.

He closed his eyes then, an act hidden from her view by his blackened visor. He hardly needed to glimpse at the sky above to be content right now. Well, as content as he could be at the moment. Bloodlust still settled in him, the echo of the fight with Bossa Nova replaying. Ah, it could have gone so differently... Naeva could have come away unscathed...

That thought was pushed away. Best not to dwell on it now.

"But it is in the past now. / A memory passed."

The minutes ticked by in silence. Rhys was sure she was going to ignore him again. It was strange how she was so determined to not let anyone else in. He had a hard time understanding where her mind was.

Eventually, she lifted the ECHO, offering him to see it. Rhys took it, glancing down at the screen. It was some kind of game, though he admittedly couldn't place it. He hadn't been much into video games throughout his life.

"You like games?" he inquired after a moment, "Art and games, I would have never guessed."

Who would? The only two people who really knew her were Naeva and Jack. One was dead and the other gave information was Naira wasn't quite around. Maybe he should ask more about Naira...

"I never was into games much. What is this one?" he asked then. Maybe she'd give him some idea?

He handed her ECHO back, watching on and off over her shoulder. If she minded, she didn't say. Rhys found some enjoyment in just doing that.

It was strange, it always was, to consider how happy she could be just having these short moments with him. Zer0 always wanted to be on the move, always ready for a new fight. While these instances weren't too rare, she always felt herself contented with them.

She offered a short chuckle at his words and the bit of frustration in them. At that time, it was almost like she wanted to spite him by doing things that ground on his nerves.

"You kept me around, that's whats important," she answered lightly in return.

Naeva often found it ironic that such an emotional, compassionate person would stay close to someone who preferred blood lust and a good fight over anything. She found a lot of things ironic these days.

"I often wonder how that happened," she brought up briefly, "Anyone could look at us and figure we'd mix like oil and water. Strange how it ended up like it did. Not that I'm complaining. Wouldn't take anyone else in the world."

She didn't quite look at Rhys, listening to the sound effect cues playing as each character attacked, be it enemy or her team. From the corner of her eye she glimpsed him, however, glancing from it to her and looking almost hopeful. Was he wanting to carry a conversation then? Probably, he seemed rather personable after all.

Her little nod to his question must have been enough to spur him on with this effort. Already he was asking more even as he was handing her ECHO back. Naira took it, moving just in time to depress the series of buttons needed for her bard's song to be effective. Only after it was time to pick her next move did she actually answer him.

"Some bitch dragon wants to eat a princess, or something," she answered. She was acutely aware of the fact that he glanced at her ECHO screen off and on, watching her progress. "I don't know, the story kinda blows. Granted, I've played games with worse stories..."

Naira shifted slightly, getting into a more comfortable position. This was a silent sign that she intended to remain here, away from the others for some time.

"Think the one guy on this journey just joined to have a chance to bang the princess afterwards," Naira grunted then.

Zer0 reached out, patting her hand briefly at her words. He had kept her around through the years no matter what rough patches came through between them during it all. Zer0 was too stubborn to just let her walk away after those first few months. A challenge had come of helping her back then, that much had been true to his assessments at the time. He was glad it had been the case.

The silence only briefly stayed before she was mulling it all out loud once more. She did so every now and again and Zer0 would merely listen.

In these little moments of theirs now it was easy to forget that the loader bot still remained on top of the caravan with them. Still, it was quiet there, neither questioning or interfering with the pair, and so Zer0 paid it little mind for the moment. A strange thing to do, if he was honest with himself. After so many months of shooting at the things it made it hard not to with this one as well.

"It does not matter, / not now. Just let them wonder / about it themselves," he finally said.

She was quick to start hitting buttons again, clearly comfortable and used to playing these things. Rhys hadn't had the time and even if he did, he might have thought he was wasting it. Still, there was a part of him that wanted to know those kinds of things.

The way she described the game made him snort a little in amusement. He'd never heard someone refer to a dragon as a 'bitch' before much less the way she was speaking now. He was learning a lot about her that gave him some new perspective.

"I've never heard a dragon being called a bitch before," he joked with a shrug of his shoulders, "Never thought I'd hear my boss say that either. But it's kind of funny. Actually, it's really funny."

Naira had always been serious or downright threatening on Helios. Now he wasn't sure. There were all kinds of sides to her at this point.

"Th-that's one way to go about winning the ladies, I guess?" he commented awkwardly afterward, "Sounds like a jerk to me."

A pat on her hand was a nice gesture, sometimes rare but otherwise, always welcome. She didn't need much, just an instance to know he cared or was listening now and again. It made her smile, a warmth often spreading through her at those times.

The gentleness he showed in those moments would have thrown most people off. The relationship was kept mostly in secret because of that among other things. Either way, it didn't quite matter. It was between them and that's all she cared about.

His words were simple ones, curt and unsurprising. For the most part, it seemed the group hadn't a clue. Naira had surprisingly kept silent on their relationship all together at this point. If she had been watching them from Helios all these years, she would have known.

"I think the Hyperion kids are pretty clueless anyways," she answered after a moment, "Not that they'd care much...at least I don't think they would. They're a strange lot."

This whole group was but it wasn't like they could do anything about it. She figured as long as they worked together, that was enough. Naeva wondered how long their common goal would last.

Rhys snorted at her comment and she thought she saw a grin on his lips though she hardly bothered to lift her head to find out. Progressing in the fantasy game kept her gaze trained upon it for the time being. Still, she did listen to him, even if it seemed she wasn't. Maybe he was aware of that, or guessed as much. It was difficult to tell either way.

"I'm fuckin' hilarious," Naira grunted in return. "Jack was worse."

Truthfully, if he thought she was funny Jack had a plethora of things to say that made her giggle on more than one occasion. Then again he also had a habit of being a bully. If Rhys had already experienced that with his hologram self, well, Naira couldn't say for sure. It wasn't like she could see or hear Jack unless he took over Rhys' body...

A brief hum, or rather another grunt, left her upon his answer. He really didn't know much about video games if that cliché wasn't well known to him. Lots of fantasy rpgs tended to use it in some degree if there was a romance intended at some point. From the looks of it, the character she'd described and the princess were intended to hook up at the end, or so Naira guessed. The game certainly implied it enough times from what she could remember.

"It's a shitty trope. And he's a shit tier character." The answer was concise, more a matter of fact in her eyes than anything else.

Zer0 swore that he could all but feel Naeva beam whenever he paid her any little attention in physical contact like he did in these moments. Though they were small ones, nothing to write home about at all, she seemed to like them all the same. It made her happy and that's all that mattered to Zer0. If anyone else thought it might be weird then they were not important to him.

He nodded briefly in response to her assessment. From what they'd glimpsed of Rhys and Vaughn, well, it certainly showed how little experience they had outside of their career paths. It was almost funny or endearing. Like a little puppy just learning the ropes, really.

"A strange lot for a / strange occurrence. A fitting / thing to behold, no?" he pointed out.

If not for Naeva pushing Rhys out of the way then they would have left and missed the Gortys core entirely. That alone left him uncertain as to what other mysteries and challenges they might have missed over the years as well. Either way, what was done was done. Dwelling on it wasn't going to change anything, especially not when they had this ragtag group to contend with this go around.

"We have a Vault at / least. We need to only make / it there in one piece."

Her words were simple and curt, not at all surprisingly but there was a dry tone of sarcasm in them. It was almost like Naeva's, in a way. Rhys didn't bring that up. He figured it might not be the best of times.

"Sounds like it," he answered her, "But I haven't gotten the chance to see a lot of that humor. Seems like you bleed sarcasm though."

Naira's gaze was squarely on the game again. In fact, it never once lifted if she could help it. He wondered how often she played like that. Maybe minutes, maybe hours. He'd heard of some people who could go on days playing a game.

Rhys blinked at her next words. A trope? What was a 'trope'? Maybe it was his own inexperience or just never really caring for that side his college days.

"What's a trope?" he inquired, all but getting Naira to pause for a moment as if she were shocked by the very question.

Naeva saw him nod out of the corner of her eye. Apart from those emoticons, there were very few ways he communicated other than carefully picked words. If anyone so much as missed glancing at him, they might not have known he acknowledged their thoughts.

A brief chuckle left her. The situation was more or less amusing at times. Sure, it had gotten rather concerning at points but she wasn't complaining.

"Yea, I think so too," she replied, "It all feels like one giant heap of irony and we get to ride the entire thing out."

She held out hopes that everything would improve with time but it was hard to tell right now. The Hyperion boys were still trying to gain some confidence in this whole matter. They knew barely anything about the two con artists tucked away inside. What was more, Naira was self destructing and that worried Naeva all the more. Even so, she remained silent on the matter.

"We'll make it," she told him after he'd spoken up, "I'm sure we will."

Naira blinked, hardly appearing to listen. Really, though, she had to wonder why that choice in words. It sounded far too familiar to an old joke aimed Naeva's way... She didn't have much time to dwell on it or the fact that maybe they'd talked a little about her while she'd slept earlier. Curious minds and all that, yet already Rhys was drawing her focus away, asking about tropes.

She lifted her head, entirely ignoring the fact that the game needed button inputs just then, to instead peer curiously at Rhys. Most people would have an idea of what tropes were, right? Or was he so into his work or into other hobbies that he didn't pay much attention to media at all?

For a moment or more she debated on actually answering but the words didn't quite come to her. Was that because she was still tired, or something else entirely? Concentration was lacking these days as it was, though that didn't surprise her given everything that had happened in a continuous stream... Finally, she shook her head and muttered "Never mind."

Whether Rhys said anything further or not, well, Naira didn't mind too much. That was surprising in itself though she told herself that it was because of his new connection with the digital Jack. Instead, she worked to regain favor in the battle after missing the prompts before hand. It would only be after that would say anything more.

"You're like a lost little puppy, you know that?" With that, Naira reached up and patted Rhys' head with her armored hand carefully though not in a manner meant to be patronizing. It was a shadow of her self, from happier times not yet completely steeped in stress and depression.

Naeva was certainly comfortable as they were, a small blessing given the odd situation they were in. Zer0 wasn't about to go questioning that much. If it made her happy then who was he to argue? Zer0 saw no reason to even question it much either, given how the situation could be far worse. If nothing else things had calmed considerably since that morning's events.

"So we will, without / hesitation. They will not / stop us here or then."

The Vault's contents would beholden to them both, whether they had to use underhanded means or not. Naira's case was of desperation and obligation but even that would not stop Zer0. He briefly wondered if it would cause hesitation in Naeva, however. That wasn't even taking into account Fiona and Sasha.

"All in due time now," he muttered, leaving the rest of the haiku to fade into the ether. It hardly mattered to finish it at the moment, not when it was just the pair of them.

And the loader bot who sat silently nearby. Zer0 paid it no mind.

So they sat, his gaze squarely above them as he heard the fire crackling quietly below and the occasional rakk scream in the distance. It was peaceful, maybe a little too peaceful. Nonetheless, Zer0 wasn't about to go starting a fight now with no need to.

Rhys waited with something of an awkward smile on his lips. Maybe that was the wrong question to ask. She looked at him like he was dumbfounded and then quietly denied an answer. Rhys tried to resist a sigh at that.

Maybe she just wasn't that into explaining. He didn't want to think it was so much worse than that. Nobody could go down that quickly, right? There was always some way to make things work out?

Then again, he'd adopted the mindset that if he made things 'work out', it was just another foothold in his climb up top. It wasn't exactly the healthiest form of thought but it had been something to keep him going.

He blinked, surprised by her sudden words. Naira had been so fixated on that game, he had wondered if she forgot Rhys had been sitting next to her. That didn't seem to be the case now.

"Ah-ha-ha," he started nervously, "No, no way. I'm not that bad am I? ...Am I?"

If he was honest, he fancied himself a little more confident then most. Rhys knew he had to keep his head down most of the time, just obey orders when given but on his own? He couldn't have been too bad!

"You're exaggerating, right? Oh god, please tell me you're exaggerating. I'm not that bad!"

No hesitation. Naeva paused to think about that for a moment. Would she be able to pull the trigger against Naira if she needed to? She had already told Zer0 not to trust her to do just that but...would it all come down to her decision in the end?

She pushed it out of her mind for the moment. Naeva was comfortable, even happy despite the bleaker situations. There had been no stunts, no fighting, and for the most part they got along just fine.

Zer0 sounded confident in that plan and why wouldn't he be? He was far more prepared in skill and ability than she would ever have been. Still, she put that out of her mind as well, rolling over onto her side so she could glance at him briefly.

"You make it sound like we've already got it in the bag," she told him quietly, "I still don't know where you get all that confidence."

Confidence just seemed like part of the job. To him it probably was, the worst experience being a boring streak. For her, it'd always been far more complicated.

"Hmm, maybe I just shouldn't question it," she added a moment later, "I love your confidence almost as much as I love you."

For a moment there Rhys said nothing, staring at her from what she saw from the corner of her eye. He remained like that for some seconds, even after she'd withdrawn her hand and she wondered for a minute if he'd taken offense. That was quickly thrown out the window as he did start to talk, his words tumbling out in a rushed mess.

Naira lifted her gaze just enough to peer at Rhys curiously, bangs falling in the way of her eyes. It seemed the little observation had been more than enough to rattle him, something that she hadn't intended at all. Still, she let him finish, listening even if it appeared she was not. She'd already turned back to her game before Rhys had finished stammering his response.

A small smile, melancholic in nature, played on her lips and she didn't quite seem to be paying as much attention to her game as she had been a minute before.

"It's strange... there are things so alike about you two and yet you're both so different," she mulled quietly, perhaps not even aware she'd spoken the thought out loud. A humming sound escaped her then, a thoughtful look upon her face.

It was quiet between them for the moment, leaving Zer0 to entertain his thoughts. There were many and not all were as important as the last and for the most part he merely lay and enjoy Naeva's company. There was no reason not to when the opportunity presented itself. Besides, the loader bot with them could easily act as their alarm now in their stead.

He heard her shift before she'd entirely rolled to face him, a smile playing on her lips. It was only when she spoke those words, filling him with a strange warmth did he turn to her and allow a heart to splash across the air between them from his visor. It was brief, yet vibrant, and one she would enjoying seeing.

"You flatter me so."

A simple answer but one she would understand no less. He was a man of simple words, one who acted instead of spoke his feelings. Those small touches were more than enough to let her know his feelings towards her, to keep them more clandestine. Less a chance of her being used against him that way.

He didn't get the answer that he was originally looking for. Instead, Naira spoke up, comparing him to someone else. Whoever that someone was, Rhys couldn't say. He had some idea but he didn't want to step on toes.

"Is that...is that a bad thing?" he asked then, wondering what she'd say.

A thoughtful expression had overtaken her face. She stared into the distance for a while, leaving Rhys completely up in the air about what her thoughts actually were. Did he upset her somehow?

"I mean, I'm not all that great," he stumbled after a moment, "Most people think I'm a clumsy dork. I just play the confident guy well."

It was the truth. He could be as friendly and upfront as he wanted but it was rarely ever genuine. Helios called for a lot of that, the people always looking to do the same. Surely, she knew that too.

A familiar, bright heart emoticon lit up the space between them for just a brief moment before it faded away again. His words were simple, they always were when they needed to be.

"I know I do," she replied, a playful tone in her voice. She shifted a little, allowing her forehead to rest against his, "Who else would?"

The loader bot was more or less forgotten in those moments. Everyone down below was as well, not that any of them had tried to call out or come up and investigate. Naeva found herself glad for that.

She was comfortable like this. It was strange circumstances that had brought them here but not all bad. Naeva just hoped it would continue looking up.

Naira didn't seem to quite notice that she'd spoken her thought out loud, or that Rhys was answering as if this had been intended. Her ECHO was forgotten in her hands. For a long moment she was lost in thought, barely aware that Rhys was pushing a conversation forward again. Or, rather, he was trying to.

Finally, she started, a small "oh!" escaping her as she turned to blink rather owlishly at Rhys. It took a second longer before she even realized what he'd said, to which she cocked her head to one side. The smile was gone now, perhaps lost with her thoughts.

"I don't know." The answer was honest, at least. Jack had had so many admirable qualities about him, qualities that had gotten so lost and twisted over time... "Will you lose yourself too?"

The words were merely curious, a passing thought and yet Naira peered at him as if expecting an answer. Was she even aware she'd lost herself in these moments, long gone and merely an even sadder shell of her former self? The answer was debatable. Yet still she waited, even as her gaze eventually strayed in those following seconds as if seeking for an answer she couldn't receive.

Zer0 would have allowed a great happy emote to emerge if not for the lack of distance between them. Best not to blind her with the flash of red, after all. Despite the visor that separated her face from his, the act alone meant more than the world. Simple though it be, it was best this way. Perhaps even Naeva thought of it like that.

Reaching up, he tangled his fingers into her hair. She always seemed to enjoy the act, whether it be out of comfort or affection. Zer0 had swiftly learned of this long ago and had kept note of it through the years.

"No one better for / this. These secret moments are / ours alone. Always."

He stayed like that, seeing no need to move. It would be obvious if anyone was looking for them and clambering up to the caravan's roof, after all. If someone stumbled upon them there would be ample alarm to separate and leave these moments a safe secret. Naeva even seemed to prefer it like this.

For a long moment, she just seemed gone. Like she was so deep in her thoughts that she wasn't going to come back up. Rhys had debated waving a hand in front of her face but decided against it.

Eventually she looked back at him, the world seeming to come right back to her. He raised an eyebrow at that, wondering if she was alright. He'd never seen that side of his boss before.

"You...okay?" he asked a moment later. There was concern there. He was worried about her mental state, it already having long since declined in the first place.

What she asked next confused him for a moment. What did she mean? Was she talking about Jack? Rhys shook his head at that. He couldn't let himself become something he wasn't.

"How could I change?" he asked a moment after, "I mean, if I haven't already, I really don't think I'm going to after all of this."

Was that the truth though? Rhys wasn't sure. He knew that a lot of people changed for very little reason. For all he knew, he could be much the same. Best not think about that right now, however.

A soft chuckle left her as his hand tangled in her hair. Ever since she was little, she had liked to toy with it. Now having grown older, it felt all the better to have someone else playing with it instead.

"And I take great comfort in them," she answered simply, "I always have."

Neither moved, there wasn't much need. A hush was falling around camp, the only noise breaking it being the sounds of the fire below and rakks in the distance. If anyone was speaking now, it was lost in the quiet.

For a moment, she closed her eyes and simply let the moment be a moment. Their lives were often so quick, day to day action always keeping them on their toes, that things like this were a treat when they came about.

He seemed caught off guard and yet she waited, head tilted to an almost extreme angle as she did so. Naira didn't react to the question, merely waited. There was no rush, she could wait until she grew tired of these thoughts that filled her head. They were a simple matter to quiet, at least for a time.

A thoughtful sound escaped her when finally he did answer her question. It was hardly an insightful one, his words uncertain even now. Perhaps he misunderstood, or maybe he thought himself better. It was hard to say and Naira did not pursue those lines of thought. The ends they reached, the reminders of Jack and his fall, they were too painful to entertain.

"Die a hero, or live long and see yourself villainous," she murmured, turning away from Rhys then. "I wonder, which will you be?"

A beat of silence passed, before Naira shifted, turning to lay her head against Rhys' shoulder. Her head was abuzz with too many memories, too many thoughts and possible conclusions. None of them happy. If she was aware of how he tensed at her sudden movement or the closing of the space between them Naira did not react to it.

"These thoughts are tiresome," she said by way of explanation, the words muttered beneath her breath. Already she'd closed her eyes, resolved to sleep and avoid them further.

A hum left Zer0, a pleasant sound to hear in these silences, or so he believed given the smile that played upon her lips. Naeva did not hold back on her thoughts and likes, after all, not anymore. Once she'd grown familiar with him any worries on her end had ceased it seemed. Then again, perhaps she'd had no reason to be worried about him then, or merely grew better at hiding them.

For now it hardly mattered, their bodies close yet still so innocent to so many others. It hardly mattered to Zer0 what others thought. This way was natural to them both, comfortable even. It was all that mattered.

"Like this we can say," Zer0 answered.

At least for the time being, they could. Everyone else seemed busy with what they had taken to and for that he was glad. For his love of a challenge, of violence even, Zer0 still needed rest as well. He was no different from others in that vein.

Everything she said was worrying up to that point. She said it in such a way that was so flat, held no emotion to it. What was it that he was missing here? Naira wasn't giving him a clear answer at all.

He didn't get the chance to properly answer himself or even argue her statement. She slumped against his shoulder. Rhys' heart leapt into his throat and he immediately tensed.

"Ah-ha...Naira is this really...uh...really okay?" he started, hoping that she would stir again. She only seemed to slump against him more.

Rhys' thoughts were racing. As she fell into a deeper sleep, she ended up from his shoulder to resting her head in his lap. Now he found himself in the awkward position of not knowing what to do.

"How do I get myself into these things?" he asked himself, shaking his head. His hands hovered over her body, unsure if he should shake her awake or not.

A soft word was rare and no one else would hear such things. They were reserved for her and her alone. In that sense, she'd always felt special, as if she'd known him better than anyone else who had come across Zer0. Naeva knew that was a truth even he couldn't deny.

She could have fallen asleep like that, intended to drift off into comforting dreams. Yet, it seemed that those would be interrupted for the time being. It had been so silent until Rhys' voice rang out,
"Ummm...could someone give me a hand here?"

Naeva blinked her eyes open again, shifting her head to look at the Hyperion boy. From this angle, his hands in the air, it almost looked like he was trying to ward something off but...was that really is? Killer nor the Loader Bot had alerted to any dangers so...what had happened?

"What in the hell is he doing?" she muttered. What was more, where was Naira?

A rarity it had once been that she could doze off so quickly and yet in recent months now she couldn't get enough sleep, dozing almost instantly if she allowed herself to. Now was no different even as she felt Rhys tense and begin to stammer. What was he saying? Was it okay?

Was what okay?

She had no answer for this as she slumped against Rhys further, breathing slowed with sleep.

Zer0 didn't know how long they laid like that, content by themselves. He resolved to remain there for a long while that evening, seeing no need to change otherwise. They'd found a place to themselves, as difficult as that could sometimes be within a group like this. It was a blessing really.

All the same, as he grew more comfortable Rhys' voice reached his ears. Curious he sat up, his fingers untangling from Naeva's hair carefully. Already she'd moved to peer over at where Rhys and Naira had seated themselves and Zero's gaze followed. The rock they'd sat behind was large but not large enough to hide them entirely and yet it was only Rhys' head, orange from the nearby firelight, that Zer0 could spot now.

"All good things, it seems," he muttered, rising to his feet.

He left the saying unfinished, holding out a hand for Naeva to take and to help her up. Down below he spotted Vaughn heading over as well though Zer0 resolved to find out what was wrong now as well. When Naeva was up would Zer0 swing over the caravan's railing up top, landing easily on his feet before swiftly heading over to investigate.

Zer0 has shifted, getting to his feet. No doubt, he intended to see what was wrong. Naeva would follow, if only because her own curiosity needed to be satisfied as well.

"So it would seem," she answered him, gladly taking his hand.

After she was pulled to her feet, she watched him make a simple jump off the caravan. Naeva would favor the ladder this time, if only to not injure her leg further. She approached slowly but eventually found that the fuss was Naira falling asleep on Rhys.

Eyebrow raised, she motioned to him and said, "What, you've never had a girl fall asleep on you before?"

"This is my boss!" he whispered in return.

Still, an amused grin tugged at Naeva's lips. He obviously had it in him to care about Naira's well being at this point and to see him all worked up over this was a little cute. Maybe this was just what Naira needed. An actual healthy relationship...

"Look, could you guys just help me move her or something? I'd rather not have her wake up and turn dragon on me because of this."

Rhys watched helplessly as Naeva shrugged her shoulders, something of a mischievous smile on her lips. What exactly was she thinking in those few moments?

"I'm out, honey pot. I'd be lucky to lift ten pounds on my leg as it is much less a body," was her simple answer. Rhys' shoulders sagged a bit. That left Zer0 or Vaughn and something told him Vaughn wasn't quite into carrying Naira a second time today.

Vaughn had beaten them both to Rhys' location, looking confused but otherwise not alarmed. That told Zer0 enough though his curiosity demanded to be sated now. With but a few strides he turned to find the fuss was about Naira, once again, though his time it was definitely for a less alarming situation. Zer0 cocked his head to one side, glancing at Naeva as she approached.

It wasn't hard to see the amusement that danced in her eyes.

"How did this even happen? I mean, someone's boss doesn't just decide to use them for a pillow, right? Right?" Vaughn was wondering, his voice hushed like Rhys' was.

When Naeva chose to speak, denying to help for valid reasons, it was noticeable that she did not extend this same courtesy. Zer0 briefly wondered why but saw no harm in doing the same. Naira hardly seemed like she was about to rouse again.

"A wise choice indeed," he started, these first words aimed at Naeva. "I see no reason to move / her from her place now."

Why would he? She was asleep there and if she slept there might be less reason for fighting amongst each other later. Moving her might only guarantee waking her and causing that foul temper to rise. Zer0 wasn't interested in staring down the barrel of a gun or to dodge a hit and not be able to retaliate because she was Naeva's friend. Besides, Zer0 knew that look in Naeva's eye, she was planning something.

Vaughn was holding up his hands and shaking his head already, an apologetic look to him. "You know I've got your back, man, but wouldn't it be best to let her sleep? I mean, she fell asleep on you right? So you shouldn't get into any trouble!"

"Naira would use anyone as a pillow," Naeva had answered, "Though she really only entertained the idea with people she liked."

Rhys shook his head at that. That couldn't be right but then again, Naeva knew Naira a lot better, or at least a part of her that had been in the past. Still, no one was helping him out here. Rhys was desperate. Even Vaughn wasn't willing to pick Naira up again.

Rhys was about to open his mouth to protest when a flicker caught his eye. There, out of no where, stood Jack. He glanced around carefully before his eyes fell onto Rhys and Naira. An immediate expression of displeasure appeared, one that Rhys tried to ignore immediately.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! What is this?!" he shouted, striding over to the two of them, "Are you trying to take my girl? Huh? Is that what this is? What the hell man, I'm out for twenty four hours and you're already putting moves on my, that's right, my lady!"

"We can just...find you a blanket and a pillow," Naeva spoke up again, giving a shrug of her shoulders. That grin had notably not faded from her lips.

"And then there's this one!" Jack shouted, approaching the woman who wouldn't see him, "You think you know everything about her! Well I'll let you know you don't know a damn thing about Naira! I know everything, me. You have no idea who she really is!"

Rhys cleared his throat, finally letting his hands drop to his sides uselessly. This was more than just an awkward situation. This was crazy. Adding Jack to the mix just made it all the worse.

"Uh...yea, yea I guess that'll work," he finally answered, trying his best to ignore Jack's ranting, "I just hope you guys are right about this..."

Zer0 peered at Naeva as she spoke, talking about Naira's preference in breathing pillows. That was a new tidbit to hear though Zer0 wasn't sure how accurate it might be. It was one thing to entertain an idea and another entirely to act upon it. Nothing was said on this matter, however, letting it lie. He barely knew the woman as it was.

Curiously, Rhys moved to say something before closing his mouth. Had he thought better of it? The man certainly seemed unnerved still.

"Yeah, that'll be easy enough to grab," Vaughn agreed, looking more relieved.

It was strange to think how these two handled Naira with such care but then, Zer0 had never quite been a corporate sort of man. Respectable to higher-ups and growing intimidated by them, it wasn't in his cards. As such, this was certainly a curious event to witness. Rhys didn't think so, that much was entirely easy to see with the way his shoulder slumped in defeat.

"A small task for a / small problem. We need no more / false warnings tonight."

Already Vaughn was hurrying away, probably grateful to be away from an awkward situation concerning Naira and his friend. Zer0 watched him go before turning to glance between Naeva and Rhys. There was a look on Naeva's face, one he'd seen before in brief spurts... What was she thinking now? Zer0 would ask later, if that expression remained later on.

Rhys heaved as sigh as Vaughn left the group to grab a blanket and pillow. Jack had notably stopped ranting, turning to glare in his direction, arms crossed against his chest. This was getting more and more uncomfortably by the minute.

"Yea, uh...sorry about that," he mentioned a moment after Zer0 spoke. All things considered, maybe calling out like that had been a little startling.

Naeva shook her head in response to the meek answer. If it had been anything dangerous, he probably would have sounded more panicked. To see this, however, it was interesting. Either Naira had passed out or she was finding herself comfortable around Rhys.

"Don't worry about it," she mused instead, "Just next time make sure it's actually important."

She turned to Zer0 then, offering a shrug of her shoulders. With all that said and done, they might as well return to their place. The night was growing late and she was certain he had his own questions. He always could read that playful side of her.

"Well that was entertaining," she joked, ready to fall into step with him, or at least as well as she could manage.

Rhys shook his head as they started off to the caravan again. The two of them preferred their own company, it seemed, and at this point he didn't mind that.

His gaze then turned to Jack and he spoke in a hushed tone, "Look, I didn't do anything. She just fell asleep on me."

"Oh yea, I'm sure," he answered quickly, "You're walking on thin ice, you here me cupcake? Very, very thin ice."

Zer0 already headed away from the Hyperion pair, Naeva quickly following after. He kept his pace slow for her, mindful of her injury now that they knew for sure that there was no real danger to be had there. Vaughn had already scurried inside the caravan, seeking out that blanket and pillow for Rhys and so even before they would return to the top of the caravan Zer0 spoke.

"You have that gleam now, / there in your eye. What is it / that runs through your mind?" he wondered.

As they came to the caravan, Zer0 stopped, waiting for Naeva's signal. He would hoist her up into his arms and help her up, back to where they'd been. It was most comfortable there, even if the loader bot quietly observed. At least, Zer0 assumed it was watching. It could well have turned itself off for all he knew of Hyperion AI and it's usual programmed routines.

Hers was a familiar weight in his arms and he easily made way up to the caravan roof. There were plenty of supplies tucked away in crates strapped to the railings, kept there to make the caravan more roomy inside he imagined. Perhaps they'd need to delve into those supplies with the many on this journey.

It didn't take him but a few minutes to ask the girls were he could drag out a blanket and pillow, ducking around the question aimed his way. Vaughn didn't think Rhys wanted this to get much further than it already had. Even just looking at Naira passed out on his lap was a little awkward, if Vaughn was honest. Still, he'd help so long as it meant not having to drag Naira somewhere else again. That had been too much of an ordeal as it was this morning.

When he'd returned Rhys still looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but the Vault Hunters had left again, probably back to their haunt on top of the caravan. Vaughn handed over the items to Rhys, moving back to rub the back of his neck sheepishly.

"So, talk about a heck of a week, huh?" he said, attempting to take both their minds off the situation. It was the least he could do right now. "Never would've had this sort of thing happen up on Helios."

His voice was still hushed, partly afraid of waking up Naira. The last thing they needed was her to wake up and freak out on Rhys for this mishap.

Zer0's steps were notably shorter to match her own, something she was quite grateful for in terms of managing to keep up. Her leg was still sore at certain points and would be for a while but otherwise, seemed fine.

Naeva chuckled slightly, tipping her head a little. So she had been right in that thought. It didn't quite surprise Naeva anymore.

"I can't keep anything from you," she teased in return, "But yes, there was something on my mind."

She paused in that thought as Zer0 tended to her, scooping her up rather easily. While this too could be rare, it had been vital several times throughout the years, especially so when it came to injury.

Settled in once again, comfortable away from the others, Naeva smiled widely before she started, "Rhys seems to care and Naira needs someone who she's not intentionally trying to piss off right now, so why not him?"

Before he could say anything, she waved it away, confident in what she was doing. Naeva never really liked Naira with Jack as it was. When she had found out, she'd been a mess with worry over the entire thought.

"I never agreed with her and Jack being so close anyways. If I could get this to work out, it'll be better. She might find a ways to improve mentally, give her something to be happy about again."

Rhys tried not to move with Naira's weight underneath him. Even a twitch might wake her up, leaving both in an awkward position. He wasn't sure how he felt about all of this, really. Why was it him always getting into these situations as of late.

Rhys lifted his gaze when Vaughn returned, commenting quietly about how strange the week had been. It really had been strange, especially now.

"Yea, tell me about it," he answered his friend, trying to put some humor in his voice, "I really don't know how I should feel, lucky or down right terrified as of late."

It might have been a strange mix of both, but it was mostly fear. He knew that one well enough as it was. Every step had been something worse and worse.

"You holding up alright?" he asked for a moment, trying to ignore Jack's presence so closely behind Vaughn now.

Naira had told him not to talk about Jack but even so, Rhys was having a hard time. This was a huge secret but even so, he wanted at least Vaughn to know. The only ones who didn't need any of that knowledge was Sasha and Fiona as well as the Vault Hunters. They'd been the ones to kill Jack in the first place.

It wasn't until they'd sat themselves down again did Naeva really indulge him with her thoughts. It was a curious one and not what he expected. Of all things, she wished to play matchmaker now? His head tipped to one side, the question mark flaring to life without a moment's notice. Naeva hardly seemed to be bothered by his lack of enthusiasm or confusion.

"A tall order there. / And if neither one agrees? / What will you do then?"

This idea of hers depended a lot on Rhys and Naira's cooperation on the matter and from the little display the night before, well... Zer0 wasn't so sure that Naira quite wanted to move on, or perhaps she was incapable of it. That wasn't even bringing up the matter of Rhys' perception of Naira as being his boss. Such problems could inevitably make Naeva's wish fall through entirely.

Or did she plan to leave it all up to those two? Zer0 had his doubts that it would end favorably that way. Hell, or if Naira was even capable of being 'saved' at this point.

Vaughn smiled a little, glad to see Rhys was holding up well enough. How they'd both made it out alive and relatively intact at this point was a mystery but heck if he would question it. A lucky break, or due to Naira's help? Either way, Vaughn was grateful about it.

"Maybe a little of both is good," he said truthfully. Vaughn was definitely scared here but he'd also never quite felt so alive! Adrenaline pumping like that... Man, what a rush! Still, it'd be all the sweeter when they were definitely somewhere safer.

For a second or two, Vaughn didn't answer, scratching the back of his neck instead. Was he all right? Probably not. Therapy was definitely gonna be needed after all of this but there was a lot about this that would make a cool story later. That much lifted Vaughn's spirits.

"Oh, you know, besides all the therapy bills I'll be paying after this I'm holding up all right," he admitted finally. "What about you though? Still look like you've seen a ghost."

It didn't surprise Naeva that he didn't share her thoughts. In fact, if he had, she would be downright sure it wasn't him. Naeva knew him well enough to know he would doubt such a thing. Still, she respected him enough to let him voice his own thoughts.

"Then I give up," she answered him simply, almost in a matter of factly manner.

Naeva laid back at that moment, trying to get comfortable once again. It didn't quite feel the same, not like before when she nearly drifted off, but it would do for now.

"Naira...she's up to something and I feel like she's pushing people away on purpose," she finally continued, "It's...not the first time she's done that, so I'm familiar with it. I was just too stubborn back then to let her go...We were pretty much dependent on each other just to keep muddling through life."

Those had been difficult times, all before this had happened. Naeva wasn't sure what to make of them and now, especially with renewed confidence over the years.

"And, I don't know, maybe she thinks I've abandoned her, gotten too close to you over the years," she said, "So maybe giving her someone new to care about will help..."

Vaughn seemed to take things in strides and that was good enough, Rhys figured. He wasn't outright panicking at the moment. In fact, he'd more or less calmed after the initial danger had passed. If anything, he was doing better than Rhys imagined.

"Could be," he answered after a moment.

At the next question, Vaughn looked uncertain for a long moment. Eventually, he relented with some kind of answer. What he parted with wasn't so much of a surprise.

"Yea, I can agree with that," Rhys told him, "Honestly, a lot of therapy would do wonders by now. I don't know how these people do it."

Before anything else could be said, a call was coming in. Rhys exchanged a glance with Vaughn and answered it. He tried to resist a sigh at the name that popped up much less the face that followed.

"Rhys, good to talk to you again. Listen, I have another proposal for you so if you'll just sit tight and listen...And stop with the glaring, I can make this quick."

Rhys shook his head again, trying not to be bothered by the mans words. Vasquez was up to something and he didn't know what. Hearing where this went would be for the best.

"Listen, this one will be good, I promise. Let me give you the idea of just dropping Naira. I'll get you both back up here, promotion on top of it, without any worries about the money. How's that sound?"

Rhys' eyebrows knitted together as he exchanged a quick look with Vaughn. Even his friend looked uncertain of the situation at hand.

"Are you seriously doing this again? After you've gone through me and Naira already? For real?"

"Well...if that's what it looks like, I mean?"

Zer0 merely sat and listened, elbow resting on his knee as he peered at her. Naeva answered simply enough though Zer0 wasn't sure about the things she said. Why go through all the trouble if she'd probably fail anyways? Something like this couldn't be easy, after all. He shook his head.

"Even if one does / agree, a trying task it / will be for you then."

That was even assuming that Naeva would keep at the thought later. For the moment it could just be a passing plan, one that would be ignored due to the importance of finding the Vault. There were many dangers upon Pandora, after all, and this group was not at all entirely equipped to deal with them head on one after another. They definitely had their work cut out for them already.

"But if that's what you / wish to do, I can hardly / stop you, now can I?"

Despite it all the conversation was nice, even if Naira could potentially wake up and get annoyed with them at any moment. At least, it was until Rhys received a phone call. Vaughn had hurriedly gestured for him to either answer it or hang up, wary that the sudden noise might just end up waking Naira up. She hardly budged though.

Though he couldn't see the face from this side of the holographic screen the voice was too familiar for Vaughn to mistake him for anybody else. His brow furrowed, Vaughn shot Rhys a curious look. Why was Vasquez calling at this time of night? Again? Naira had been a bust and though Vaughn had agreed to Vasquez's deal earlier, back when things were still rough and they were dealing with those bandits, it had only been to get Vasquez off their backs for a time.

Was he hoping to turn all three of them against each other?

"Turning Naira in?" Vaughn whispered, holding out his hands in a mock shrug. "That doesn't sound like a good idea, I mean..."

From just what they were learning about her along this merry little trip, it didn't seem like Naira could handle those she trusted to some extent turning against her.
