Ilana sucked in a breath, the air cool around her. A cough left her at that. Her head throbbed momentarily, the pain sharp enough to jolt her into consciousness. She groaned, pushing herself up. Ilana shook her head as if it would help unclog her head though, it did no such thing.

Opening her eyes slowly, she started to look around. There was a bit of a hustle and bustle, people surrounding her. Her eyebrows knitted together in confusion. They were all dressed so oddly, most of the women around wearing frilly dresses.

Ilana tried not to focus on it so much. She slowly pushed herself to her feet, aware that she was stumbling. Her legs didn't quite want to work with her just yet. She brushed a hand over her forehead though it did little good.

It was at this point, she realized she was holding something in her other hand. Glancing down at it, her heart skipped a beat. Her memory hit her like a ton of bricks then.

"This thing..." she muttered, "What did it do?"

She remembered the blinding light when she picked it up. The copper ball didn't seem to react in any way now. Ilana tried not to dwell on it. Instead, she shoved it in her pocket.

The eyes on her made her uncomfortable enough. She shifted a little before she finally started to walk away. She wasn't sure where she was or who these people were. Maybe she could find some help to point her in the right direction. She held out hopes that would be the case.

Ginta flinched, blinking at the bright light that had illuminated so closely to their camp. There was a familiarity to it that struck a cord. He knew that was. That faint pink light had to have been caused by a shard!

"Hey! Hakkaku! Something just happened!" he called out to his friend, "Come on, let's check it out!"

Already, he was starting toward the area the light had been. It had faded away however. Ginta hoped that whatever was there hadn't run off. It would be easy to track if they could pick up a scent.

He paused for only a moment to do just that. As he grew closer, the smell of blood hit his nostrils. It was a prominent one mixed with the scent of dirt and water. Someone or something was hurt.

"Smells like blood," he pointed out, "Hope it's nothing strong. Maybe it's run off by now?"

He listened to whatever Hakkaku said before starting off again. They covered a short distance before stopping in the field where the light had erupted from. Ginta's eyes widened when he saw the body laying in the middle of it all.

"Hey! Someone's there!" he proclaimed, starting forward a little cautiously, "I wonder if she's even alive..."

Whoever the girl was, she couldn't do much to them in this state. She was unconscious and injured. Overpowering the both of them wouldn't be easy given her own state now.

It was a rare day in which Caleb Garret had little to do for the war or for the assassins. It left him a little restless and nursing a drink until he heard word from someone or until evening came. The word he did receive however was odd news and only from eavesdropping did he even hear of it. A strange girl was seen wandering in odd clothes and with strangely blue hair.

He’d sat just long enough until he’d made up his mind to go see this ‘witch’ as people were calling her. No normal woman would just have blue hair after all, or so their logic went. Garret merely found his curiosity piqued.

Hat atop his head and the edges of his coat trailing behind him Garret left the tavern, seeking out this strange woman. Perhaps it was a lead that could be used against the Templars… The thought alone drove him forward, keeping his pace quick. With such odd hair she’d be easy to pick out from a distance in these crowds and so he did not linger in any one place for long.

It must have been an hour or more before he caught a glimpse of an oddly blue color in the city he was in at the moment. Garret immediately made a beeline for it, the woman easy to see once he’d pushed passed several groups of people that kept their distance. After only a moment’s deliberation he’d reached up and took his head in hand only to place it on her head as he grew close enough, catching her attention.

“For a ‘witch’ you certainly do little to hide yourself away,” he pointed out, a note of dry humor in his voice.

The campsite they’d settled for wasn’t anything special though it sufficed for them at the moment. Hakkaku thought it was a good time to take a nap at least while Kōga was off. It felt like he’d just laid down against the trunk of a tree before Ginta was shouting about something or other. Begrudgingly Hakkaku had stirred, following after Ginta before he ran off ahead on his own.

“O-Oi! Wait for me!” he called out, his feet padding silently over the ground.

He wasn’t quite sure what Ginta had seen though it had left the guy in a rush. Hakkaku picked up his pace to make sure he didn’t lose sight of his friend though it’d be easy to track him down by scent alone. Still, that’d be a pain he’d rather avoid.

It felt like hours when really only minutes passed before the scent of blood filled the air. It was a metallic scent and easy to pick out among everything else in this forest. Hakkaku shook his head at Ginta’s question. It wasn’t like he could say for sure.

“I don’t know. Let’s be careful though,” he cautioned. They couldn’t say where Kōga had gotten off to and Hakkaku would rather not cause trouble that they couldn’t handle without him here. He was their leader for a reason after all.

Inching closer to the source of the smell, the trees thinning out to border a small field nearby. It was here that the scent led them, a human’s scent. Hakkaku shook his head. He still didn’t know what Ginta had seen to make them come all the way out here and there hadn’t been much time to ask as he’d chased after him.

Ginta saw the body first and they hesitated to inch even closer for some minutes. Eventually Hakkaku shook his head and said “Maybe we should check?”

He waited until he received some kind of an answer from Ginta before approaching the body carefully. The smell of blood was powerful here, blood staining the area around her side. There was a lot of it and it certainly explained why the girl was unconscious. He squatted down at her side, hands hovering over her as if debating on trying to wake her.

“She’s got funny-looking clothes on,” he observed. “Kind of like Miss Kagome…”

Ilana had wondered for a couple of hours, trying to flag someone down that could help. Most people kept their distances, whispering to each other when she turned her back. One man had outright thrown a stone at her and others had started calling her a witch.

She had started down another road entirely, aware that she was attracting a crowd when someone stepped forward. She barely got a look at him when a weight fell onto the top of her head.

Ilana tipped the large hat back a little, peering up at the man. He was a gruff looking one, more akin to the frontiersmen she read about in books. When he spoke, his tone was low as if he were carrying some great secret.

"Well you're certainly the first friendly face I've gotten to see," she pointed out, jesting a little in return, "People certainly seem fond of that word all of a sudden. Where am I anyways?"

If someone was willing to give her answers, she would have been delighted. This was the first person who had approached her since waking up here. A little relief settled onto her knowing that.

"Ah, who are you as well?" she asked after a moments thought. She finally let her hand fall from the hat, still slightly confused as to why he'd played it on her head in the first place. "I'm Ilana."

Ginta studied the girl cautiously and from a distance at first. Hakkaku was already suggested checking out if she was alive or not. There was one point that he mentioned though. The girls clothing was a lot like Kagome's.

"Maybe she's from Miss Kagome's time, huh?" he suggested, sparing a glance at his friend, "Either way, how she got here is weird."

He would have sworn he saw the light come from here. If that was the case, it had to have been a shard. There was no way it couldn't have been! Especially so if this girl was from another time.

Ginta finally approached her, kneeling down beside the human girl. Reaching out, gently pointing the girls cheek with his finger. He didn't quite mind if she flinched or not. Ginta didn't really expect her to wake, injured as she was.

He let his hand linger near her mouth. Breath fanned across his fingers. That part of it all was solved.

"Well, she's still breathing," he told Hakkaku, "What do you think we should do?"

Since meeting Kagome, Kōga had softened to helping humans. Maybe they would help this one too. If anything, she might have had something to do with the shards. That in and of itself was important.

"Should we try to wake her up?" Ginta suggested after a long moments thought.

The woman jumped, reaching up to touch the hat he’d dropped on her head before facing him. Many others were lingering further away and Garret could hear their whisperings though the words were lost to him. It didn’t matter much though. A witch might be a helpful ally for the assassins, if she would help and if that was what she truly was.

He reached up to rub a hand over his jaw at the comment she made. “Friendly face? First time I’ve heard that one,” he admitted more as a thought than a response. He let his hand drop back to his side as the strange woman spoke again.

“Ilana, hmm?” Garret echoed, taking a moment to mull over the odd name. “A fitting name for such a strange girl. They call me Caleb Garret.”

For a second he looked down at her, she was so much shorter than he was and her hair was such a vibrant color compared to everything else around her. It stood out against even the hat though her hair was short. He shook his head, now was not the time to dwell over such things. Later he would have the time, if all went well.

He gestured for her to follow and wasted no time in starting off. His strides were long and she’d have to jog to keep up though Garret did not wish to be interrupted by the people around them. Many were glaring at Ilana as it was.

“If you do not wish to suffer from the people around here I would suggest following me,” he advised as he walked.

They’d inched closer slowly, cautious about the injured girl. They couldn’t know if anything was weird about her considering Ginta’s suddenness to get over here. Hakkaku shook his head at that. Right now they had to figure out what to do without Kōga’s input. Still, it was hard to determine what they should do…

Ginta was the one who braved poking at the girl though it didn’t really get them any kind of reaction if she was alive. It wasn’t until Ginta waited, his hand near her mouth did he determine that she was. Her breath must have been steady enough if he wasn’t in a rush to leave or help this injured girl.

Hakkaku shook his head at the question. It wasn’t like he knew what they should do. “I don’t know… maybe we should help her? She might know Miss Kagome or something…”

It was just a guess but why else would a girl in those funny-looking clothes be here? It made sense to Hakkaku at least and the next Kōga led them to see Miss Kagome and the others they could find out for sure if they knew something about this. It had been awhile since they’d gone to see them anyways.

“Maybe we should take her back to camp and bandage her up? If she’s Miss Kagome’s friend then she’ll be angry at us if we left here like this,” Hakkaku pointed out. All the same he was cautious, unsure of what to do even then. Was his idea the right one? He couldn’t begin to say.

Ilana spared a small smile up at him. He was much taller compared to her, probably had a larger build as well. That was enough to make Ilana feel small in comparison. Then again, with all the hostility she was facing, she already felt rather small.

"All things considered, you're the first who's actively spoken to me, so I'll consider that friendly," she answered him.

Ilana wasn't out looking for trouble. She didn't like creating anything of the sort. Now, it was like her presence caused just that. People glared and whispered. The whole thing left her uncomfortable.

She didn't argue about the strange comment. Honestly, she was finding that she was the odd one out on this matter. When she looked around, everyone looked like they wore period clothing. She was called a witch despite those things being mere myth or scary stories back home. Whatever that copper ball did, she knew she definitely wasn't home anymore.

"Well, it's nice to meet you," she finally replied. Her hand found that odd ball stuffed in her coat pocket again. She was half afraid of losing it.

Garret didn't spare much time to really study that movement. He turned on his heel and was already walking off. Ilana practically had to jog to keep up with his long strides.

"Uh, yea, sure. Whatever you say," she said as she spared a glance around. Honestly, if she was out of sight she'd feel a little better anyways.

Ginta rocked back on his heels, trying to figure out what should be done. Hakkaku had a good point about it but what would Kōga think? He'd opened up to the ides of helping humans. Maybe helping this one wouldn't be so bad either.

"Well...we can't just leave her here," Ginta agreed, "Who knows what else will be sniffing about."

The scent of blood would carry on the wind. That would bring all kinds of demons toward the area. Unconscious as she was, she'd be torn apart. Ginta was still convinced this had to do with a shard too.

Upon mentioning Kagome getting mad, Ginta flinched a little. That woman could be soft spoken and kind but he'd rather not be faced with any of her anger. The thought was unpleasant and unappealing all together.

"I don't want Miss Kagome to be mad..." he agreed, glancing back at Hakkaku, "I think we should get her back to game. Kōga can decide the rest."

They could only do so much, after all. If Kōga said otherwise, they wouldn't argue. The most they could do for the human girl now was take her back, bandage her up and wait.

Gingerly, with the help of Hakkaku, he was able to get the girl onto his back. They would sprint back to the camp sight, hoping that whatever scent was left didn't attract other demons. That was a big risk they were taking in and of itself.

From there, it was tending to the wound. It wasn't deep but it had done enough damage. Ginta was rather anxious after that, waiting on Kōga's return. He hoped they made the right decision here.

Garret supposed that the woman had a point when she put it that way. So far it looked like no one else had really gone out of their way to speak to her, not like this anyways. To Ilana that might very well be friendly to her in comparison. He shook the thought away.

As he thought Ilana had to all but jog to keep up with his strides though he didn’t slow. The sooner they were out of the public’s eye the sooner Garret could figure out what this witch was doing here. If she truly was a witch—assuming such things were real, of course—then she’d have been much more discreet after all.

He spared a glance her way when she spoke up again. Ilana didn’t seem like she was going to cause trouble or run off though Garret would remain careful on the matter. It was difficult to tell sometimes, compliance not always as easy as this. For all he knew she might very well just be waiting for a chance to run off.

“I’ve taken up lodgings in the local inn,” Garret informed her. “If you do not mind we can hide there, away from such prying eyes.”

It might leave her nervous to be alone with a stranger like that but it was for her own safety. She was still receiving odd looks and glares of those around them that could see her hair. Even her strange clothes were enough to draw attention as it was.

“I assure you that I will not harm you though it is up to you to decide to trust me or not,” he pointed out.

Her thoughts were muddled, sluggish even in her waking state. They whirled, asking questions without answers and disturbed by a pain in her side that seemed to throb in time with her heartbeat. For a long time this was what Sachiko new, the pain neither lessening nor increasing though her thoughts still raced endlessly.

Awareness trickled back slowly and the first thing she became aware of past the pain and the confusion was the itchy feel of grass against her skin. ’Grass…? Where?’ The last thing she recalled was running, the smell of blood stuck in her nose and the dying screams of her family in her ringing in her ears. Her heart constricted at that and she tried desperately to push it away.

’Can’t… Can’t panic. Not again!’ The thought was a minor one, there and gone in just seconds. Memories were coming to her unbidden of the incident even as she steadily grew more conscious. It wasn’t until she heard the sound of unfamiliar voices did Sachiko’s thoughts stop, fear gripping her heart. ’Who…?’

With the memories fresh in her mind it was hard to concentrate though someone seemed to be asking lots of questions. Swallowing her fear and hesitation after several minutes passed by, Sachiko attempted to push herself up. A whimper left her, hand moving to cradle the wound only to find it tightly bandaged, blood already beginning to dot the cloth. Confusion marred her features for a short moment before the unfamiliar voices grabbed her attention again.

She blinked up at them, startled by the sight. A forest? How did she get into a forest and who were these strangely dressed men? There were three of them, all wearing armor and furs though Sachiko couldn’t guess as to why. Were they cosplayers?

Before she could vocalize her confusion, throat feeling constricted, the one with a Mohawk spoke up. Maybe he was just the one who’d noticed her first. “Hey! She’s awake, Kōga!”

Garret didn't seem to be slowly down much for her. Ilana tried not to let that bother her. He was doing her a favor, after all. He didn't have to help her. For what help she was receiving, she was grateful.

She took a long moment to study Garret's back. Like many others, there was an almost period feel about him. He certainly didn't look like some of the people who passed. If she had to guess, he was some kind of frontiersmen or something along those lines.

She blinked when he spoke up about a place to stay. Any place out of the way of people seemed nice at this rate. There was a chill in the air as well, leaving her a little cold.

"No, that's fine," she told him, "I'd rather be out of eyesight..."

She didn't know why she was being deemed a witch. Then again, she didn't see too many people walking around in clothing like hers. None of them had the extreme color of hair either.

The next reassurance was a rather kind one. She hadn't really been worried about him hurting her. By all means, others had already tried when she wanted to ask them a question.

"I figured if you wanted to hurt me, you'd have done it by now," she pointed out, "At least, that's what some had taken up to from what I'd witnessed."

Kōga hadn't really known what to expect when he returned to Ginta and Hakkaku. Honestly, the two didn't cause trouble unless it came to them. They were both good friends and went out of their way to keep on eye on him.

Upon his return, however, finding the two with a human was surprising. Ginta was quick to explain what he saw. The decision they came to seemed like the best one at that moment.

Kōga had stared at the girl in her unconscious state. She was from Kagome's time, it was easy to see. How she got here was another matter entirely. He shook those thoughts away.

Time ticked by slowly waiting on the girl to wake up. They all made sure no demons had tracked this girls blood. It would have been easy to catch a whiff of it on the wind. When Hakkaku's words rung out, Kōga was quick to approach the woman.

He knelt down beside her, studying her as she woke up. He was aware of Ginta and Hakkaku nearby as well.

"Hey," Kōga greeted, if a little pushiness in his tone, "Are you alright?"

"I think it's pretty obvious that she's not," Ginta added. Kōga snorted in response, well aware of how things looked right now. "What happened to you? How'd you get here?"

The questions might have been too much for her right at the given moment. Kōga was curious however and he wanted answers. For all he knew, Kagome might have more of them compared to this confused woman.

Garret shook his head at this woman’s naivety. Many people in the world would first pretend to be someone’s friend before harming them after all. Perhaps she had yet to experience it or did not find anyone capable of it here. She’d be sorely mistaken if she had run into the wrong people.

He didn’t mention any of that however. There wasn’t any need to alienate her further or give reason for distrust. She might have information or a way to combat the Templar bastards. They had yet to pay for what they’d done all those years ago…

It was a short walk to the inn he was bunked in for the moment. Inside many steered clear of him and his strange friend. Up the steps he went to enter his rented room, allowing Ilana inside first. Once inside it was quiet for some minutes as Garret merely studied her now that no one was around to harm her without warning.

She was a little slip of a thing, compared to him anyways, though she didn’t seem like she harbored much ill intent if any at all. Perhaps she was merely the eccentric type though that rarely worked well for women in this day and age. Garret shook his head at that thought.

He gestured to her and said, “If I might ask, how did you find yourself in this city much less dressed in such strange clothes?”

Sachiko didn’t know what she’d expected—to be dead maybe?—but it wasn’t to wake up in some unknown forest with weirdly dressed men nearby. Sure, she’d run at the insistence of her father but they didn’t live near any woods…

Any chance to dwell on it and figure out what happened and where she was was interrupted by the man with a brilliantly white Mohawk. Seconds later one of the others had neared her, crouching down before her. Though her attention was focused on the longer haired of the three Sachiko could see the two other similarly dressed men hovering nearby too.

This guy, Kōga, sounded a little pushy when he spoke to her. Maybe he felt entitled to answers. Sachiko’s head felt ready to split open as it throbbed in time with the shallow wound at her side. What had happened to her parents? They couldn’t have been killed by that… thing… could they?

Despite her fear and hesitance Sachiko put on a brave face and tried to ignore her pain for the time being. Maybe they could provide answers, as weird as they looked.

“Some monster attacked,” she admitted, unsure of what else to call it. It’d been so dark that Sachiko hadn’t been able to tell what it was. The memory of it caused goosebumps to rise along her arms. “I don’t even know where here is…”

It was quiet for a second or two after that. Over Kōga’s shoulder she could see his two companions exchange glances though she couldn’t begin to figure out what they were thinking. Who were these people and where was she? Worry flooded her, there’d been so much blood then when her father had pleaded for her to run… and the sound of something wet being bitten into… a crunching—

”So, Kōga, what should we do?”

The walk seemed short with how quickly Garret moved. There was purpose in it, she was well aware. Why that was the case, though, she didn't know. She could only assume it was really to get her out of the open.

Ilana did her best to ignore what other stares might be shot her way, even inside. She followed him up the stairs and walked into the room he was renting. Ilana spared a quick glance around. It was here when she assumed she was no where near her home much less her time.

Ilana glanced up at him again, still a little surprised by the difference in height. That thought was pushed away when she realized he was studying her for a short time. She smiled though she couldn't calm her heart from thudding against her chest nervously.

When he asked how she came about here, she felt a little relief on her shoulders. It was just a matter of explaining it however. She wasn't sure how to go about that.

She tugged the copper ball from her pocket. It still felt hot against her palm. "I found this on my walk home," she explained, holding it out for him to inspect, "When I picked it up, it started glowing. I don't know how or why. I didn't even have time to really chuck the thing before I passed out. When I woke up, I was on the street. Soon after that, people started calling me a witch."

Ilana offered a shrug after that. Whatever this thing was, she was convinced it had caused all of this. Wherever she was now though, she could only really assume.

"It hasn't done anything since," she finally continued, "I don't know why that is though."

Kōga tried to remain patient. That was difficult for him however. He wasn't exactly patient when he wanted his answers. Despite this, Ginta and Hakkaku seemed to be urging him to be a little gentler with the girl.

He heaved a sigh when she spoke up. She didn't even know how she got here. There was some kind of clue however. She said she was attacked. That would explain her injury, in the end of things.

"Don't remember much else then that, huh?" he inquired, resting his chin in the palm of his hand, "Well that doesn't help."

"Hey, you said you were attacked," Ginta took over if a little eager, "What did the thing look like that attacked you? Was there any weird light?"

Kōga glanced back at his friend. He hummed shortly, wondering if he was still on about the shard. It was hard to believe that it was possible that the shards had made it to the other time.

"You still on about the shard bring her here?" he asked before he looked back down at the girl. He tried to get a more stern expression on his face though he knew it did little good, "Alright, well do you remember anything about that? A pink light or something? Anything?"

The girl looked at odds with the question. Kōga had to resist a snort. His intentions weren't to cause any grief but he had to know. If she was tied to Kagome, Kōga would make sure he knew about it.

Though Ilana had spared a smile during his observation of her it was a strained sort of expression. She was clearly nervous though Garret did little to try to assuage it. In time she’d come to her own conclusions but telling her them upfront would do little good. There were things better learned from experience and observation.

Garret wasn’t sure what kind of answer he was expecting from her but it wasn’t that she’d dig into her coat pocket and produce a Piece of Eden. Garret’s eyes widen and he felt his mouth open in awe. She was just walking around with that in her grasp? It was a miracle the Templars hadn’t caught her yet!

“I take it you have no idea of what it is you hold,” he deduce when she’d finished her strange tale. However short it was it was certainly enlightening in many ways. “That is a very powerful artifact that many would kill for.”

Eyeing the Piece of Eden carefully he didn’t notice anything happening with it. It remained still in her hands, reflecting the dim light from the windows. Garret snapped out of this transfixed state, turning to hurriedly close the curtains. He might be on the second floor of this building but he’d rather not risk anything.

“Whatever you’ve caused it to do you seem to be at a loss at how to work it now,” Garret mused under his breath. Whether Ilana heard him or not didn’t seem to concern him at the moment now. “Perhaps that’s for the best.

[color=#bf0040]Was it just her or did this Kōga guy seem bored? Sachiko tried to shake the thought away though it was hard when he was regarding her so coolly, chin in hand. It was even weirder given their clothes. She knew some cosplayers went out to get good photos but Sachiko didn’t see any kind of photography equipment around to explain that…

That train of thought was a short one, driven away as her wound throbbed when she tried to sit up further. It hadn’t been fatal, that much was clear, but it certainly felt like it could be.

Question after question came though Sachiko wasn’t sure she could answer them much. What good was it even going to do? These men didn’t look like they were going to rush off for help, at least Kōga didn’t. His friends looked more concerned about things, at least that’s how it looked to Sachiko.

“It was dark, I couldn’t tell,” she admitted carefully. “It didn’t look human…”

That admission didn’t seem to surprise any of them though Sachiko couldn’t tell why. She had a feeling she there was something she didn’t know, leaving her own edge. Whatever it was they didn’t see a need to share with her, eager to get their own answers from her. That thought left irritation bubbling in her stomach, combating her wariness.

”And any kind of light?” the white-haired man urged.

Sachiko heaved an annoyed sigh. What was all this about shards and lights? “It was dark, I ran for help; if there was any light it wasn’t near me,” she stressed, coming to her wit’s end. “You guys are nuts. My family’s dead right now and you’re harassing me about lights?”

The guy’s two friends took to looking awkward at that, sharing looks again though they were silent for some time. Sachiko tried not to let this bother her though it did immensely.

Ilana didn't quite expect him to believe much of her story. In fact, she expected him to call her out on it, call her crazy. That would have been a normal response or at least she assumed.

Instead, alarm overtook his expression. His words left her nervous. People would kill for this strange ball of copper? That left her heart hammering hard against her chest.

"Wait, what?" she started, concern overcoming her, "People...people would kill over this weird thing? I just picked it up off the side of the street!"

This thing was a cause for alarm for her. Ilana had no idea what it was, as Garret had guessed. She just figured it was something weird to pick up. It had been so odd, sitting out in the open like it had been.

She blinked at Garret quickly closed the curtains. Why he did that, she could only guess. There was obvious concern here now. Ilana tried not to look too deeply into it but she was rather frightened now.

"No, I just...picked it up, I swear," she explained, "I don't know how it happened, "I don't understand. What is this thing? What does it do?"

He seemed to know more about it than he was letting on. By his expression when she pulled it out, there had to be some importance to this copper ball. In that regard, she found it hard to quash her worries.

Kōga wasn't deterred by her snappish attitude. He was used to such things himself and refused to be pushed around. If this was how she wanted to act, he'd easily accept it. He'd even counter it if need me.

Despite this, he knew that Ginta and Hakkaku were probably feeling uncomfortable. They were softer ones, Ginta being a bit of a cowardly type as it was. That made things hard in the end.

Kōga shook his head in turn, trying to get rid of the thoughts. "Sounds like a demon," he pointed out to the other two.

"Yea, but a demon in her era? Is that possible? Maybe Miss Kagome knows more about it?" Ginta suggested.

Kōga knew the shards had a great amount of power to them. For all they knew, pieces of it could have easily made it to this girls era. The look of confusion on her face told him enough. She knew nothing about this, denouncing them as crazy.

"Hey, will you calm down! Believe it or not we're actually trying to help you," he pointed out after she'd snapped at him, "Look I'm sorry your parents are gone but right now, you have to focus. This is important!"

The girl didn't seem to appreciate his words or the way he had said them. Kōga was honestly doing the best he could. He wasn't a very patient man; he had his faults. Comforting someone like this, it was a little bit hard for him to do.

She was shouting at him, clearly shocked that such greed existed in the world. Or maybe she did not see the appeal in the artifact in her hand. Garret refused to reach out to touch it, having heard stories from his fellow assassins. He feared he’d fall under the thing’s spell if he were to even place a finger on it. How this woman hadn’t was the question…

Only once the curtains had been closed did he turn back to her. It was harder to see now but it didn’t bother Garret, it wasn’t like Ilana could do much against him if she did get violent after all.

“What it does is not important to know. The Apple isn’t a toy to be experimented with,” Garret answered snappishly.

He couldn’t risk Ilana trying to mess around with it if he did tell her what little he knew of its capabilities. Hell, the fact that it seemed to transcend time itself was alarming! What more could it do? At this rate all sorts of trouble could arise just from this odd woman being here.

Reaching for a large section of cloth he held it out, nodding t it. With the artifact inside he’d cover it completely, careful not to touch it and allow it to rest on the nearby table. He had no desire to touch it and find out what effects it might have on him. He had revenge to fulfill, his loved ones long since dead before their time had come.

“The question now is what to do about you,” he mentioned thoughtfully.

While it was a relief to not be announced as crazy Sachiko was still clearly left out of the loop here. These strange guys were acting like all of this was normal as well, making her feel as if she was missing something obvious. Their weird outfits, the forest… Just where had she ended up?

”Miss Kagome never said anything about ‘em not sticking around though,” white-haired guy pointed out to his companion.

Sachiko’s brow furrowed. She knew it hadn’t been human that had murdered her family but demons? They talked like this was normal and what of this era stuff? Snapping at them didn’t help, she knew it wouldn’t and yet couldn’t stop herself. She was upset and had no time to morn much less make sense of what had happened. Her head was starting to hurt with everything as it was, only adding to her problems.

She shook her head and pushed herself to her feet, using the tree to steady herself. She must have lost a lot of blood if she was this weak, her knees shaking and her vision blackening around the edges for a long moment. Only when she was sure she was as steady as she would be did Sachiko speak again.

“We clearly have two different ideas about important!” she accused, already moving to leave. She wasn’t sure where she would go but anywhere had to be better than here.

Ilana was tense and felt herself shake. Her mind was running a mile a minute. She wasn't sure what to do or say. All of this was too much. She would have bolted if she had anywhere to go. Here, she had nothing. She only had a word of a stranger.

She flinched, quickly quieting when she snapped. He was already taking some cloth, motioning for her to place the 'Apple' as he called it, into his hand. She did as such, no longer wanting to touch the thing.

Ilana gripped onto the hem of her jacket, shuffling nervously. Tears stung her eyes. She fought not to let them spill over. Panic took enough hold as it was. She couldn't make it worse.

When he spoke of what to do with her, she felt herself grow anxious. After the comment of killing over that odd piece of copper, she couldn't quite take solace in those words.

"I just want to go home," she protested.

Ilana wasn't even sure that was possible now. That thing had brought her here, surely it could take her back. She couldn't be sure now that the thing wasn't reacting like it had before.

They were trying to put the pieces together. Hakkaku had a point in what Kagome had said. There was no evidence saying it wasn't possible at all. If that was the case, how many shards had made it to the future?

Before any other thoughts could be brought up, the girl was pushing herself to her feet. There was an obvious struggle there. The injury was probably still rather sore.

"Hey!" Kōga called out, "What are you think you're doing?"

The snappish response he got left him huffy. He got to his feet, wondering what the best thing to do was. The woman was certainly stubborn, leaving him in a bit of a foul mood.

"If you want to get killed out there, go ahead! I don't give a damn!" he snapped in return.

"Ah, but!" Ginta protested, catching Kōga's attention, "But if Miss Kagome finds you, she might be really mad at you! Just let the girl come with us!"

Kōga felt a little alarm shoot through him at that realization. He couldn't have Kagome angry with him! So with that in mind, he shot forward, catching up to the girl.

"Look, I'm sorry okay?" he started, "Out here, it's pretty dangerous so if you go out on your own, you're gonna get killed. We can try to explain things as much as we can. Just...you got to trust us, okay?"

He couldn't tell if that would convince her or not. The woman still looked mad, after all. Kōga could only say so much to convince her.

It was clear that Ilana was beginning to panic. Her face had grown pale, that much was clear in the dim lighting, and Garret was sure she was beginning to tremble. He couldn’t prevent that much however, she had to know how dangerous that item was or she’d have been displaying it to anyone out there. The wrong person would be all it would take…

He shook his head, the familiar weight of his hat gone for the moment. It still sat atop Ilana’s head, perhaps forgotten there for the time being.

“I do not think that you’ll be able to get home at this rate,” Garret admitted honestly. Lying would do her no good even if she felt worse off for it at the beginning. “You have no idea what the Apple might do next if you attempt to use it again.”

A moment of thought passed for him. The assassins weren’t based in this area; there was no safe headquarters to duck into with Ilana at the moment. He’d have to make due and find somewhere safe for them soon without Ilana getting into danger. That sounded easier said than done to him.

Garret heaved a sigh. “It’s a troubling situation, I understand. No plans will be made immediately. Please take the time to clear your head right now.”

Her panicking would only lead to her being hasty and making mistakes. Garret couldn’t afford that happening. This was huge, yes, but tact needed to be utilized. Besides, it wasn’t like he was out to harm her just like he’d told her from the start.

”Away from you weirdos!” Sachiko snapped back over her shoulder.

She could hear the guys still speaking though tried not to pay much attention to it. All the same it wasn’t like she was moving quickly, her wound making it impossible to. Sachiko was afraid of reopening the wound and so had to move carefully, wrapping an arm around her middle as if that would help somehow.

One of Kōga’s friends had argued with him, quiet following after. Sachiko didn’t stop, gritting her teeth and refusing to. All the same she could soon hear Kōga’s voice calling after her. In just a few seconds he was already at her side again trying to coax her into joining them.

Sachiko huffed at that. She didn’t know who this Kagome girl was but it was clear that it was just because of her that Kōga’s tune had changed. It was a realization that left her uncertain of this weirdly dressed, pushy guy.

“So now you care? And who’s to say that I was supposed to survive anyways?!” she snapped, having yet to halt just yet.

At her other side the white-haired one appeared—really, it was getting hard to keep track of his buddies without names to give to their faces—worry prevalent in his expression. He looked a little wary of how she might react and it almost seemed like he was getting a little sensitive about it all.

”H-Hey, c’mon! You don’t really mean that, right?” he said, his words sounding a little rushed. “We don’t wanna see you get hurt more!”

Ilana felt dizzy. She'd only experienced fainting once in her life and she was aware that she might feel it again. She finally forced herself to sit down, trying to let her heart calm down.

She rubbed her forehead. Already she was aware that she felt clammy. She hated when things like this happened. Her whole body seemed to be against her. There was little she could do about it.

Ilana brushed the hat away from her head, instead setting it into her lap. It wasn't like anyone could see her now. She had doubts that anyone would be barging into this room.

The fact that she might not be able to return home left a heavy weight settling on her. She was stuck in this era? She wasn't even sure what year it was. Eventually, she shook her head and asked, "So what happens, than?"

Garret didn't seem to focus on the question at the given moment. It was obvious to see her panic. Ilana was troubled enough as it was. Getting home would have been a great comfort. Knowing that she couldn't now left her panicky and anxious.

"Clear my head? Right...talk about short notice..." she muttered in turn.

Clearing her head would be difficult. This would linger for a long while, she was aware. Accepting it all would be the hardest part. One way or another, she'd have to figure something out.

Kōga didn't quite appreciate being called a 'weirdo' as she put it. She knew what weird meant. To think that she would align him and his friends as such left him impatient. Why couldn't she just be simple?

Despite his argument, she snapped at him again. What she said was a little alarming as well. Did she think she was supposed to be dead too?

"Hey, that's a pretty stupid thing to say!" he argued back. Hakkaku had spoken up on it as well. Ginta was just catching up with them all.

"Really, we don't! You got away, you're alive! That's what's important, right?

Kōga couldn't be sure what this woman was going to do. With that line of thought, she might be rather reckless or looking for a way out. He didn't want to think that anyone would do that.

"Are you really just going to throw your life away?" Kōga finally argued, "Do you think your family would want that?"

He wasn't sure if he was hitting a sensitive spot or not. He held out hope that she'd relent. Coming with them was for her best interest. If she didn't do it, he could always just throw her over his shoulder. She was a skinny woman. It wouldn't have been hard.

"Seems like a waste of life to me," he finally continued, "Pretty stupid just to go off and die. Most people don't get to cheat death once."

He ignored the look Ginta shot at him. Kōga was a pushy person. They should have gotten used to those methods by now.

Ilana was clearly distressed, the color gone from her face and her small frame trembling. Garret stepped back, letting her have some air after he dealt with the artifact. It was covered, sitting atop the nearby table for the time being. There was little he could do about it right now.

He shook his head as she spoke. It was very clear that she wanted answers immediately but Garret had none to give. He had to make plans and see what happened, find out who might be in the area to help. Ilana’s strange clothes would also need to be changed so she’d blend in better as well.

“You are asking a lot in a short time,” Garret pointed out, gesturing to her. “There are things that need doing before any plans can be made. For instance ou stick out like quite the sore thumb.”

Strange blue hair was also alarming though Garret had no idea how they’d hide that. What kind of people even had such odd hair colors? Garret had never seen or heard anything like it.

“I am sure you’ll be able to find something to distract you from your thoughts sooner or later,” he said after a moment or two passed.

It was quiet in the room, stuffy too, though it didn’t bother him. It left Garret plenty of time to think as Ilana tried to calm down. Leaving now wasn’t an option just yet. He couldn’t be sure Ilana might not leave or someone had followed and would cause trouble if he left. Precautions would need to be taken before Garret left for any amount of time.

The three clearly weren’t going to leave her alone, following after her rather quickly. Not that it was hard to keep up with her, each step seemed to be enough to jar her wound making something as simple as walking an ordeal. Sachiko wasn’t even sure how long she’d be able to keep up like this before having to rest.

Their arguments only weighed heavily on her shoulders, tears pricking at her eyes. She bit at her lip hard, trying to keep from crying. She could morn later when she was alone, away from prying eyes. Crying in front of others left her uncomfortable as it was, morning over her family was another thing entirely.

”K-Kōga, isn’t that a little harsh…?” One of his friends was wondering, just loud enough that Sachiko could catch it.

“I don’t see how that’s your problem!” she argued to Kōga. The fact that her voice cracked was something she tried to ignore.

His friends seemed rather friendly, maybe a little sensitive and if it was just those two then maybe Sachiko would be more compliant but Kōga… he was pushy and seemed pretty foul-tempered right now. It wasn’t something that sat well with Sachiko at the moment. Maybe if she had less to worry about and shoulder she’d be more patient but that wasn’t an option for her.

”This is looking bad…” that white-haired guy muttered.[/color]

Ilana was quiet. She didn't have too much to say given the moment. Most of her feelings were inward. There wasn't anything she could do here. She couldn't return home and she had no where to go. She felt helpless.

She didn't pay much mind to her attire. It wasn't like she was prepared for period times. Women were treated differently in this time too. All of this was a call for concern.

"That can be changed," she replied with a shrug, "My hair has to grow out before the natural color will start to poke through..."

Ilana was a little more aware of why she was being called a witch now. She was probably the worst kind of sight for these people. No doubt she'd be considered some demon or devil now.

She offered a shrug to his next statement. At the given moment, she couldn't think of much. She felt drained, her heart still sputtering nervously. It would take some time before it finally calmed down.

The room was warm. She found no qualms with that for the moment. If she took solace in anything, she took a little comfort in the warmth of the room.

"It's the truth!" Kōga snapped back to Hakkaku. At least, Kōga felt that was the truth.

The girl didn't seem to take the words very well. In that regard, Kōga felt a little bad. He hadn't meant to push her this far. He just wanted her to see reason. The situation was bad enough as it was.

"It's my problem when someone's intentions is to get themselves killed!" Kōga replied to the woman.

"Kōga, I don't think that's working!" Ginta's voice rang out in protest. He brushed the comment off.

Kōga felt annoyance tug at him. Eventually, he heaved a heavy sigh. He easily caught up with the girl. Cutting her off, it was a simple matter to wrap around an arm around her waist and toss her over his shoulder. He did his best to mind her injury.

"Alright, you're giving me no choice here," he pointed out as he started walking back the way they had come.

"Kōga, come on! That's too much!" Ginta shouted, following after.

"I'm not letting her die, alright!" he shouted back, "And if this is the best way to avoid that then I'll do what it takes!"

Ilana didn’t seem to mind the idea of a change of clothes though the mention of her natural hair color caught his attention more than that. Garret raised an eyebrow, glancing at her carefully. Her hair looked thoroughly blue to him. It was a startling shade to see on someone.

“And how long might that take?” he wondered. If they had to they might need to get her a hood or hat to hide it all under until it was gone.

Eventually Garret shook his head and neared her. Carefully, he reached out to pat her shoulder. It was an attempt at comfort though Garret wasn’t too sure it worked. Ilana might be far past any amount of comfort that he could give her anyways. All the same he would try.

“Perhaps you should rest. This is a trying time for you, I’m sure,” Garret murmured.

It wasn’t like he was in a huge rush at the moment. While Ilana rested he could try to piece together the best course of action anyways. Perhaps it would help to clear her thoughts later or even just help her come to terms with things a little better. It wasn’t a guarantee but it was worth a shot.

“Afterwards we can find you something to eat if you can stomach it.”

Sachiko said nothing more, stubbornly continuing to walk forward. It might have been stupid and reckless and only making things harder and more painful for her but there wasn’t anything for her here. In that vein she supposed it didn’t matter what she did now.

His friends were protesting though it didn’t seem to do much good. Kōga was as stubborn as she was it seemed making things difficult. Sachiko didn’t want to think about that or the fact that she had no idea what waited for her out in these woods. In the end of things she didn’t get much of a chance to as Kōga picked up his pace, cutting her off.

Surprise flitted through her, blinking up at him, as he was a full head taller than she was, before she was lifted up over his shoulder. If he was trying to be careful of her wound he didn’t do a good job, pain bursting from her side and causing her vision to go dark for a moment. Dizziness washed over her in that time though it was slower to leave, leaving her disoriented.

”We didn’t say you would but isn’t this, I don’t know, kind of making things worse?” one of his friends pointed out. Were they still talking?

Sachiko clutched her head, trying to keep herself upright but it was hard when she was slung over someone’s shoulder like this. She pushed herself up, her hand resting on the small of Kōga’s back though the armor he wore was hard to grip. The metal was cool to the touch, startling her a little. It wasn’t a costume?

Ilana glanced up just long enough to catch him studying her again. It was probably a bit of a startling revelation to realize her hair wasn't naturally blue. Hair dyes were a nice thing in her time, accessible to everyone.

"Several weeks, maybe a few months," she answered him, "Once it's long enough, I can cut the blue strands out. Naturally, I just have dusty blonde hair."

That was the most she could give him. Clothing could be handled accordingly but her hair was another matter entirely. There was little to be done that could hide that now. She would just need to wait for it to grow back out.

His hand was warm on her shoulder and while she was aware she tensed a little, she appreciated the gesture. He wasn't out to cause her grief, at least not intentionally. Whatever all of this was, she could only ride along with it.

"Thank you," was all she managed to say in response.

Sleep sounded like the best option she had. She offered his hat back. Ilana wouldn't be needed it. With the bed offered, she didn't protest. She curled up almost immediately and settled down for some sleep.

It didn't take her long to slip off. Her mind might have been muddled with thoughts but she was exhausted. She felt comfortable in the unconsciousness that followed.

Kōga glanced back at Hakkaku as the younger one was trying to catch up. His statement was true enough. For now, Kōga did little to change his methods. There wasn't any time for that. This girl was going to wander off and get herself killed.

"It's not going to matter much if she ends up dead," he pointed out instead, "I won't have blood on my hands knowing I could stop it."

He was aware that the young woman wasn't protesting much anymore. He hoped he hadn't jostled her wound too much. That could have very much been the case.

"But this just kind of seems rough...doesn't it?" Ginta pointed out, "Maybe you could just...let her walk on her own?"

"So she can walk in the other direction?" Kōga countered easily, "I don't think so."

He glanced over his shoulder, trying to catch sight of the girl. They still didn't know her name. He didn't expect she was in the mood to give it either. She was pretty sore as it was.

"We'll let you get all the rest you need but we'll have to be on our way after," he explained, "Who knows what kind of demons might have been attracted to your scent."

It was a relief to know that the blue in her hair might not take long to get rid of in the grand scheme of things. Sure, a few months was excessive in his eyes but it was a simple thing to wait for and until then a hood would suit their needs to hide it away. At the very least it would not be a beacon after time passed.

Garret didn’t brood on it longer before Ilana lay back, falling asleep almost immediately. She must have been worn out, more than she’d looked. Then again the news he’d shared had seemed to take its toll on her.

Shaking his head, he sat at the table nearby. Occasionally he’d glanced at the cloth covered Apple but he did his best not to be swayed into touching it. It seemed like it couldn’t be true that one now sat before him, brought to him by a woman who had no idea what it had been to begin with. There was no way that this was planned though.

’This is worrisome indeed,’ he decided after awhile. Only then did he take to thinking of what they should do, well aware that he’d need to move them out soon. Would Ilana trust him however? She was clearly distraught and might be difficult over the days to come. That possibility worried him.

His time was spent brooding and planning, occasionally hearing people pass his room in the hall or listening to Ilana’s soft breathing.

They were still talking, trying to reason with Kōga though it didn’t seem to be doing much. He remained stubborn about carrying Sachiko back the short way like a sack of potatoes. She didn’t have it in her to argue at the moment, attempting to dull the dizziness and pain that lingered long after her version cleared.

It was a little funny, she’d think later, that just one comment about the fact that she might have supposed to have died would have triggered this extreme of a reaction. For now it wasn’t a thought she could entertain.

”Well… if you’re sure, Kōga,” his buddy muttered. Sachiko imagined he was shaking his head as he had.

The mention of demons of all things was alarming, causing her thoughts to whirl. Sachiko was absolutely sure that what had killed her family wasn’t human; the shape in the dark hadn’t been right for it, it had been far too grotesque and monstrous. But… demons? That sounded like something out of a story.

“You’re a brute,” she accused.

She blinked a few times, staring down at the ground for the time being, hand still on her forehead. Something furry caught her attention, swaying almost lazily. It took Sachiko a moment or two to realize it was a tail, attached to Kōga’s furry kilt but… ’It’s not moving right…’ If it was fake it should have moved with less purpose and far more wildly with his steps, this one didn’t.

’What the hell are these guys?’ Sachiko wondered.

Ilana was dead to the world for a long while. She wasn't sure how much time passed as she slept through her current problems. It was the most she could do given the circumstances.

She woke with a start when the distant sound of a thump and someone shouted. It had startled her awake. She rubbed her eyes, hearing laughter not long after that.

Ilana rubbed the sleep out of her eyes, still feeling groggy. It was a little bit difficult to want to get up and moving. This place was so unfamiliar, it was startling.

"What did I miss?" she asked, rubbing her forehead.

Aside from the loud noises downstairs, it didn't seem like there had been much. Garret was sat down, a hard expression still on his face. It seemed like he'd done quite a bit of brooding through the time she was asleep.

"How long was I out?" she asked after a moment.

It was clear the room had darkened. Maybe that was for the best. If anything, she had calmed a little bit. That was all she could really hope for for the moment.

Kōga remained stubborn about it all. Honestly, he didn't want to see this woman dead. That was especially so if this woman knew Kagome at all. Even if she didn't, he knew he'd get an earful from Kagome regardless.

Hakkaku and Ginta seemed to finally relent on it all. They would do what he said even if it seemed over the top. At least, most of the time they did. He was well aware there were some things they didn't agree with.

"I'm very sure," he replied after a moment, "So don't worry about it."

She was silent for a while longer as they walked back. On occasion, he let the tip of his tail twitch in annoyance. He felt her stiffen when she noticed that. Kōga didn't let it bother him.

"That's right, I am," he replied to her, "It would have been less of a problem if I didn't have to carry you at all!"

"We probably could have made this easier regardless of what method could have been used..." Ginta added though his comment was ignored again. Kōga merely glanced over his shoulder to look at him.

As they returned to their camp site, Kōga let the woman slide off his shoulder. He saw her cringe and rubbed the back of his neck. He didn't mean to hurt her.

"Sorry," he apologized, "I was trying to be careful..."

Hours had passed since Ilana fell asleep, taking up the bed. Her rest was a little fitful at one point though not so much that she really seemed to be suffering. When she did stir, sitting up and glancing around she didn’t look like it had bothered her. Whatever dream she’d had might have been one she couldn’t remember.

“Hmm?” He glanced up at her and shook his head. “You were asleep for just a few hours. There has been little happening.”

Garret wasn’t sure what Ilana expected. Had she hoped that when she woke up she’d be home? It was a thought that wouldn’t have surprised him. There was no one else here but them and no one would just barge into someone else’s inn room unless under dire circumstances.

He leaned back in his chair, the wood creaking under his weight. It was a loud sound compared to the quiet around them. If it bothered Ilana she didn’t seem to show it much.

“You look better off after that nap,” he pointed out. Her face looked less pale at least. Her worries wouldn’t go away like that but the sleep had done her good. That much Garret was sure of.

Sachiko bristled at his answer, the fact that he had an actual tail forgotten for the moment because of it. Why was this her fault? It wasn’t like she made him pick her up like this! Tears still pricked at her eyes though she tried not to let them fall, not now.

“Don’t blame me for what you choose to do!” she snapped.

Whatever Kōga decided to do didn’t seem to have much to do with what his friends said or thought. Sachiko had to wonder why that was but it it was quite clear that Kōga was their leader, of sorts. She couldn’t pretend to know what they were doing out in the woods now, especially when what they wore were clearly not costumes.

Did that mean their strange, pointed ears were real too? The thought was driven from her mind when Kōga came to a stop, putting her back on her feet. Sachiko swayed and she wrapped an arm around her middle, attempting to staunch the pain somehow. It did little good.

He was apologizing as Sachiko took a step back, wary that he might just throw her over his shoulder again. It did little to calm her down or make things right though.

“Brute!” she accused again.

”Maybe you should try to relax,” his white-haired friend offered. He sounded awkward, looking like he wasn’t quite sure what they should do now. “Getting worked up can’t be good for your wound…”

Ilana shifted on the bed. It was nothing like her old mattress but she felt she had no right to complain. She could have been sleeping on the cobblestone street after all.

A few hours of sleep had cleared her head a little bit. She was glad nothing more had happened since then. She was half afraid someone would have busted the door down knowing she was in here.

"It helped a little," she agreed with his words, "It'll be a long time before I'm actually...'alright', so to speak."

Garret seemed to be aware of that fact. If she wasn't rushed into accepting this new life, she would come to terms with it in time. There was nothing more that could be done about it.

"I won't focus too much on it now...It's too soon," she muttered in return, trying to think of a different topic, "What is it you do anyways? I had a long guess of a frontiersmen but I can only really assume."

If anything at all, the conversation and learning a little more of him might help clear her head.

Kōga noticed she still didn't look all that settled. He didn't expect her to be either. Her parents were killed by a demon. She honestly looked like she was going to take a long time to come to terms with that. Naturally, that would be the case.

Still, it didn't sit right with him that he made a girl cry, or nearly cry at least. It wasn't hard to see that was the case.

Despite that momentary worry, she snapped at him again. For a moment, Kōga flinched in surprise at that. His eyes widened momentarily before he brushed it aside.

"Hey! I apologized!" he retaliated, "I didn't have to!"

"Come on! Will you both calm down! It's not helping either of you here!" Ginta protested again. He looked nervous much like Hakkaku.

A snort left Kōga at that and he crossed his arms over his chest stubbornly. His tail twitched in annoyance. It had bristled, showing all of his annoyance.

"Look, if you want to rest and eat, help yourself," he finally said, "It may help."

Ilana was able to answer him honestly though it was clear she wasn’t fully shed of her worries. Truthfully, Garret would have been worried if she woke up chipper and raring to go. This sort of thing was hard to wrap one’s mind around even when they were aware of what all mysteries the Apple entertained.

He waved a dismissive hand. The topic wasn’t a cheery one and dwelling on her losses and predicament would do her no good at the moment. There would be time enough for that later, when she was more at ease with this oddity.

Eventually Ilana saw fit to question him about himself. Garret raised an eyebrow at that, drumming his fingers along the tabletop thoughtfully. The news of killing over the Apple had distressed her, what would the idea of an assassin do to her? He shook his head.

“I do a great many things,” Garret answered in a rather offhand manner. “I have been putting many efforts into the current war however.”

That much was true and took up much of his time. It helped that many Templars had a stake in this war as well, making them easier to find this way. Garret did his best to strike swiftly and without mercy when he found them. Opportunities arose rarely however; many of them took precautions.

“The colonies are in a fair bit of trouble, you see,” he mentioned at her confused look. If she really was from the future she would have some knowledge of a war at least.

It was a little surprising when Kōga cringed, eyes wide for a moment when she snapped at him again. It didn’t last long before he was shouting at her again, claiming that he hadn’t had to apologize if he didn’t want to. That sentiment didn’t make her feel any better. These guys clearly weren’t all human, Sachiko was realizing that by the minute and it left her uneasy enough as it was.

“You didn’t have to be s-such a brute either!” Sachiko shouted, having a hard time holding her tears back.

Anything else Kōga might have said was interrupted before he’d even opened is mouth. His friends were still trying to smooth things over. In a way it was a little admirable though not very effective overall. Sachiko was upset as it was, a heavy weight on her shoulders with her parents dead. All of this was only adding to things, leaving her confused and unable to figure out what she should do.

Kōga had quieted either way, huffing before he’d mentioned Sachiko should rest or eat something. That tail of his had bristled and twitched from time to time, making it quite clear that it wasn’t fake. This was a little alarming—who just had a tail like that?—and yet everyone seemed to act like this was normal.

She resisted shouting that she didn’t want to eat or sleep. Sleep wouldn’t be easy and her stomach was all in knots as it was. Instead she plopped down on the ground, hugging her midsection as her wound throbbed in protest. If she could she would find a place on her own and cry but it seemed like Kōga wasn’t about to just let her do that.

”Hey, Ginta, what do we have to eat?” white-haired guy asked after several minutes in silence passed. At the very least Sachiko had another name to place to one of their faces.

Ilana was glad that he wasn't pushing anything. Honestly, he could have been up and out the door at any time. She still didn't know how things were going to end up for her. She would have been lying if claimed she wasn't worried about that a little.

The topic was a gloomy one so Ilana was more then happy to speak of something else. They had a little time to spare, it would seem. She wanted to use it if she could.

His answer wasn't straight forward. She didn't complain. It was an answer nonetheless. What concerned her was what he spoke of. She couldn't have known a war was going on. Then again, she hardly even knew what the year was.

It clicked when he mentioned that of the colonies. It was hard to believe that she'd been dragged through time itself. This was just getting bigger and bigger as she learned more about it.

"You mean the war between the British and the colonies? That one? The Revolutionary War?" she elaborated.

The thought alone left her a little nervous. Being pulled into an era she knew only through history books was one thing. Knowing that she had been placed in this particular time was another.

With that revelation, she glanced up at him again and asked, "How bad is it?"

Kōga felt his annoyance dissipate a little when shes stammered on her words. It was obvious that she was about to cry. That really wasn't his intention at all. He supposed he could have been a bit softer on the issue. What was done was done however.

"Okay, okay," he defended, holding his hands up as if that would form some kind of wall, "I'm sorry. Really."

It was the most he could offer at the moment. She was clearly distressed. Kōga wasn't even sure how to fix it. He wasn't used to dealing with mourning women.

She didn't even seem to like the idea of eating or sleeping. If anything, she just looked more upset. Kōga wasn't sure what to do about that. He rubbed the back of his neck, glancing at his younger friends. The both of them seemed like they were at a loss as well.

Ginta was the first to actually speak up again, answering Hakkaku's question, "Uh, well, there's still some of that meat we got from the kill yesterday...I think there's some bread left too. That might be easier on your stomach..."

Kōga left them to it. Honestly between all of them, they seemed to have a better handle on this kind of thing. Kōga was a little ashamed to admit that. He'd never been prepared to do something like this.

Eventually his attention fell back onto the woman. "What's your name anyways?" he inquired, "You've probably already heard ours..."

He hated the fact that he felt awkward stating that. Kōga didn't care for that feeling nagging at him.
