Mimi's breath caught in her throat as Zena's words rang through her eardrums. At their disappearance the woman fell to her knees unable to believe the sight before her. Axel had dragged Zena away, but for what purpose? Would she really be alright? Would he harm her?

Questions bounced rapidly in her head across the caverns of her mind. She wasn't sure what to think anymore. All of this happened too fast for her taste; too fast for her to handle. Not to mention Zena was gone now all because she made the choice to run because the woman herself instructed her to do so.

On the brink of tears the woman heaved a sigh her shoulders shivering as she was finally able to relax. "What do I do now...?" she questioned herself a tear slipping down her cheek. Her gaze was lost clouded over from her own thoughts. The dark green color that had taken place had all but disappeared to be replaced with a cloud of sadness.

The wind that once danced around the town finally came to a halt. Dead silence came as if the world itself have been devoid of any sound. The time was frozen, the people that once resided had all but disappeared, and more of those creatures were still flitting about.

Then a powerful gust of wind surged upwards slamming against the woman's body in one quick motion. Mimi didn't have time to react and grab the nearest object. Lifted into the air she was swept off the ground and thrown towards the now dark sky unable to return to the ground.

The world had all but turned dark. The sunset gleam that gave Twilight Town it's light all but burned out. Thunder and lightning danced across the sky as the very foundation of the world began crumbling apart.

The last sight Mimi could gather was her own world that she had come to know disappearing in a pool of darkness.

The bright white light blinded even Axel's eyesight for a small moment. He still hasn't gotten used to the warmth of the light itself whenever coming to the world. It always took him a moment or two to readjust his eyesight.

Still keeping a grip on Zena he turned his head to gaze upon her figure gauging her features for her reaction. The room decorated in pure white might have been foreign to her since the world he himself had come to know so well was blanketed in soft colors.

The red head could clearly see that Zena was in a troubling state. Many questions must have been in her head, but in order to try and calm her soul slightly he smirked down at her though he doubted that it would help now.

"I'm sure you've got a lot of questions," he spoke before beginning to walk opening a door that led to the outside world of the castle. "So don't be afraid to ask them. Don't expect me to answer them all for you though." he informed the woman as he began walking down a slope.

The World That Never Was - a world filled with nothing but darkness - was Axel dragged her to. The dark clouds and the mysterious city in the distance was what first could be seen. The very home of the Organization and much more than what it seemed. "We aren't far from our destination, so ask whatever you need to quickly." he warned her as he began climbing a slope still keeping a grip on Zena.

The Nobody had to admit to himself that he wasn't sure why he still kept his grip on her. He was well aware of the number of Nobodies in this world that were empty shells, yet they were still dangerous. Despite not having a heart he still could comprehend the emotions he would feel in certain situations.

Though with Zena something about her intrigued him.

Shaking away the thought he regained focus on the path before them not wanting to loose himself in a daze.

Leon wandered Hollow Bastion quietly. Most days, the security system here took care of any wayward heartless of dusks. There were occasions when some would slip through however. Regular patrols were taken up to keep anyone who resided here safe. Leon was wandering about for a different reason this time, however. A light had drawn him out, something crashing into this world.

This wasn't an odd thing. People ending up in other worlds had become so common, it didn't leave him surprised anymore, even if he allowed that surprise to show. It was simply another person, possibly another ally, to bring into refuge. For the most part, everyone was glad to help. Leon often grew a tad frustrated with some of the...softer people that seemed to come here.

He didn't pay much mind to it. The world he had resided in had been consumed and left homeless. These kind of frustrations were displaced and normally left some put off by his personality. Leon was quick to shake that from his mind. He didn't need to focus on this now.

Gun blade in hand, he scanned the area, looking for whoever had fallen into this world. He heaved a heavy sigh. He'd been searching for quite some time now. Leon eventually found what he was looking for.

He was quick to the young woman's side. She was unconscious and looked worse off, perhaps even fighting off a nightmare. Leon laid a hand on her shoulder, attempting to gently shake her awake.

"Hey...you alright?" he inquired quietly.

He didn't want to startle the woman. Many people took falling into another world in different ways. Leon waited a few moments. If she didn't stir, he would carry her back to their base and let her rest until she did wake. Leon hoped she was alright, however. There was no telling at this point, however.

Zena studied their surroundings. This place seemed hollow, filled with nothingness and a strange sense of loneliness. How anyone could reside here, she could only assume. The area however, only put more weight on her shoulders, more unsettling emotions to cope with if she could manage.

Despite putting on a brave face for Mimi and acting as such in front of this man, Zena wasn't all that brave. She only took the situation into her own hands because that's what she saw fit. If she hadn't done something, Mimi could have been stuck here with her. At least this way, the young woman would still have some form of a chance out there.

Zena tried to shake her mind of these thoughts as Axel spoke up again. He seemed to take the situation rather lighthearted though, Zena could see no reason why he needed to act otherwise. It wasn't him who was stuck in this situation.

"I just want to know what you want with me," she responded added after a few moments. "I'm not anything special, if that's what you've got in your mind."

She didn't believe she was. She studied magic and an odd amount of things but her knowledge? She never thought that would warrant for a kidnapping on her part. It left her mind abuzz, looking for a reason why. She knew he might not find incentive to answer her, especially after being informed as such but she hoped he would.

At least if she knew, she could put her mind off it and move onto the next of her worries.

The line between reality and dream had all but blurred. A bright flash of white released from the sky, and soon cast downwards towards the ground of Hollow Bastion. In a few short moments the light disappeared from view of the inhabitant's of the world leaving what it carried in its proper place.

Mimi laid on the ground out cold her skin paler than before. The day's events proved to be taxing on her even physically. The woman wasn't sure how much more she could take now. Her muscles twitched in her fingers; eyes fluttered open in due time at the sound of a hushed voice.

The gentle shake of a hand caused her to stiffen eyes widening slightly in shock at the sudden contact from the unknown presence. Mimi managed to tilt her head to gaze upon the individual that found her. At first glance Leon seemed rather calm on the eyes, but she couldn't focus on that now.

Mimi managed to raise herself up onto her knees a hand reaching to support her head. Vision was a blur as her body was still trying to settle from the beating the wind gave her as it had ripped her away from Twilight Town. "Just... a slight headache is all..." she finally answered him. Mimi closed her eyes to spare the tilting and blurry vision that greeted her eyesight.

It was all proving to be too much.

Not having the time to think of her whereabouts Mimi shifted slightly trying to regain herself; calm her soul even. Anything would be better than the state she was in now.

Axel's smirk faded away slowly as they neared their destination. It wasn't too far now. He almost had Saix off of his case, and he could continue the next phase of his plan as soon as he consulted him about certain matters that involved Zena herself.

"I just want to know what you want with me. I'm not anything special, if that's what you've got in your mind."

At the question he halted in his tracks before a doorway that led to the inside of the castle. Finally releasing the grip he had on Zena the fiery red head turned to said woman raising an index finger as he spoke to her in a hushed tone.

"You say that now but you are actually rather special." he began explaining before crossing his arms. "Me and you may not look so different on the outside, but we are on the inside." With the hint of words he offered Zena he reached behind him to open the door pushing the white and hollow patterned sector open.

With a gesture he held the door open awaiting for Zena to walk through. The only difference the two of them had was that he didn't have a heart; Zena in fact did. Axel needed her in order to understand the functionality of the heart.

What was it like to have emotions? What did it mean to cry and laugh with a heart? He had all but forgotten those feelings, and he yearned to be whole again just like the other members - or at least that's what he assumed.

Before Zena could fully enter he leaned to whisper in her ear his breath warm and soft that definitely signified that he wasn't just in control of fire. "Just keep quiet in front of Saix." he warned before shutting the white and hollow door. Walking ahead he kept to Zena's pace just for her comfort turning his head to make sure that said woman was still following him.

Leon watched the young woman stir, taking in the things around her slowly. He couldn't blame her for that though, she was taking it all in a lot better than some. He'd seen all kinds of reactions but mostly confusion and despair over a persons lost world. After all, these people could have lost friends and family for all they knew.

It was an unsettling cycle that seemed yet to end.

As she spoke, it was slow and he worried that she could have a concussion. Despite her saying it was a minor headache, he checked her over for injuries, being careful as he did so. It was very easy to over step ones boundaries and these situations. He didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable and took to slow movements, as if testing the waters.

"Do you remember anything?" he inquired a moment later.

Leon could at least get the facts. If she recalled what happened before, he could at least get a better idea of what happened and why she was here. Amnesia wasn't common when it came to people from other worlds but it did happen. Some couldn't handle the trauma and simply lost their memories, buried somewhere deep within themselves.

He wondered if this girl was the same.

"My names Leon," he introduced, leaning back a moment later. He was satisfied to at least see she was uninjured. "What's your name?"

Leon hoped that he was going slow enough for her. She might not be able to keep up with his questions. If that was the case, they'd take it a little slower before he moved onto something else.

Zena was a little unsure of his words. What did he mean? That she was special in a way? She couldn't figure it out. She furrowed her eyebrows, attempting to rack her mind for an answer. No such thing came about. If she couldn't figure it out at some point, she'd simply inquire upon it later. If Axel chose to answer, that was.

As he motioned for her to walk in, she did so, looking about the room. A shiver had run up her spine as he leaned over, whispering of a person named 'Saix'. Zena wasn't sure why she felt that shiver run up her but she did her best to quash it. It was the least of her worries at the moment.

"How many should I be concerned of?" She inquired back.

If this 'Saix' was going to prove to be a problem, she would have rather stuck with Axel. Despite bringing her here, he seemed rather lax. He was going out of his way to warn her as well but why? Why should he care about her well being?

Zena couldn't put her finger on it and she attempted to push the thought from her mind.

"If that's the case though..." she plowed on a moment later.

She kept to his pace and close to his side. If there was some form of danger here, she could at least remain cautious.

The unsettling memories flitted about inside and around her heart. The normal start to a day now ended with a world now belonging to the darkness. Whatever strength the woman had was all but drained away from the impact of stress and anxiety on her system from before. Mimi was as lost as she could be, and that fact was hard to admit.

Unknowing of the pair of eyes inspecting her she simply held her head simply wanting the headache to subside. The constant flashbacks of Zena disappearing into the portal haunted her. The swaying motions of the Nobodies she had encountered vastly swayed in the depths of her subconsciousness. Unanswered questions hung in her heart at the confusion and strayed path she faced.

The woman remembered it all too clearly for her taste. Eyes opening slowly Mimi released her hands from her head gazing up to Leon with a lost gaze in her eyes. What color that was held in them seemed all but lost to the depression she was feeling.

"I remember things all too clearly for my tastes..."

Inquiring her reply Mimi heaved a sigh before turning her attention to the ground her memories tangled up along with her feelings in a vast maze of remembrance and emotion. Just when the woman thought she would drift away into her thoughts Leon had given his name. It caught her attention which caused her to tilt her head to attempt to gaze upon him.

"I'm Mimi. It's nice to meet you, Leon..."

Despite the weak greeting Mimi began pacing herself to rise to her feet believing that she was ready to stand. Hands pushing against the dirt ground Mimi paced herself as she began rising up, but not before stumbling slightly when she fully stood. Catching the nearest wall to her form the woman let out a mental sigh closing her eyes as she was still suffering from her dizzy spell.

The pure white that was the main decor of the castle had began to become mixed in a tinge of gray as they were nearing the room that Axel presumed before was their destination. The loneliness of the hallway's and color he had become used to. It would be only a matter of time that Zena would be used to this empty shell of color as well. It signified the group in a way, and described the emotion they believed to feel at the present time.

Axel rubbed a finger against his chin at Zena's question having to ponder for a moment. The more dangerous members that had come to mind had all but disappeared into the heavens. Though the ones he could provide her with came to mind momentarily. Collecting his thoughts for later he inquired her turning his head to gaze upon her for a moment as he spoke before to their pathway once more.

"Nothing more you need to concern yourself with. You'll be fine as long as you stick with me."

Climbing up the slope a large window stretched across the side of the room. The view of the dark outside world was clearly visible the glass separating the inside from the out flawlessly. A figure stood beyond the sight as he viewed the world before him with dead silence.

Before entering further Axel pushed Zena closer behind him for his own reasons. "Saix." At the call of his name said man turned to face the red head noting how he hid a figure behind his tall and slender form. The soft blue haired man didn't seem to need any convincing that the member before him completed his task.

"I see you completed your task, Axel. There's not a need to hide your cargo from me though... unless you have something you need to say."

The sharp tone in his voice made Axel cringe slightly his brows creasing upward at the harsh tone. "I'm just here to clarify that I've completed my task, and that I'll take full responsibility for my tasks." he admitted half-heartily to Saix unsure of his decision to provide the member before him with the full report of what he faced today.

Leon watched as the young woman slowly recovered. She took her time and he didn't mind it. There was no sign of any danger at the immediate moment so he allowed her to collect herself. It might have done more harm then good to rush her anyways. In this state, most could be rather frail. Despite his disposition, he did care about the well being of others, especially that of his friends.

He listened to her words, sighing lightly. So she recalled her memories. While it was a tad relief, she didn't seem to think of it as such. In fact, part of her seemed distressed, even bitter if he read her correctly. Leon gave a slight shake of his head, bracing his weight on the gun blades hilt before pushing himself back to his feet.

"Mimi," he tested the name on his tongue. "If you remember what happened, could you explain? ...Unless you'd prefer to rest first..."

Leon knew that rushing into these things might not be the best idea. Still, she seemed quite distressed and if she had seen something, something that might have been of great importance, than he needed to know.

He remained quiet for a moment as she struggled to her feet. She was rather weak, simply watching her. Leon sighed through his nose, reaching out to Mimi. He carefully wrapped his free arm around her shoulders, steadying her.

"Take it a little at a time," he informed. "Might not be good to push yourself..."

He studied her expression carefully. Leon wasn't so sure about her state at the moment. Whatever she had seen had really shaken her up. Leon decided not to push it if he could help it. She would speak up when she was settled, if she could manage that much.

Zena gave a curt nod in response. For whatever reason, he seemed to have her well being in mind. She had no inkling as to why. Briefly, she wondered about Stockholm's Syndrome. Showing kindness to her, protecting her for his own reasons, these could easily lead into such a thing. Zena had to wonder if that was even a possibility.

Zena didn't get much more of a thought on the matter. As they entered the room, he pushed her behind him carefully, only than drawing his attention toward this man named 'Saix'. The male seemed to throw his authority around. Zena wasn't sure how she felt about it.

Being labelled as 'cargo' didn't quite please her too much. She remained silent however, her gaze averted toward the ground as she gnawed at the inside of her lip. this Saix had already wore on her nerves at this kind of comment.

Zena reached up, tugging at the back of Axel's coat. She remained silent, waiting on them to finish up impatiently. She didn't quite like the air in this room nor Saix. She shook her head, pushing her glasses back onto the bridge of her nose.

The sudden motion of support from Leon caused Mimi to drift her attention to him. The act of support caused her spirits to relax as she finally was gaining a small form of stability. His words of comfort aided slightly with trying to regain her being. The woman would attempt to cooperate with Leon and answer any questions he had for her. That resolve she could reach at the moment for certain.

With a nod of her head from his words Mimi breathed through her nose her gaze drifting from Leon himself to the view of the path before them. The world itself seemed ragged and seemed to suffer a great deal. The cliffs and rifts the world held seemed to prove that. Taking in the sight the woman's own world began drifting to her mind which began to prove difficult to provide any information to Leon.

"Earlier today was when things started... to turn out of order. Me and another woman - Zena - noticed these strange white creatures that we had never seen before. We both reached the decision to go and see what exactly they were, but in the end we were sent running. Just when I had thought things quieted down..."

Trailing off in her words the woman felt a tinge of anger at the man known as Axel. Brows creasing she continued in her information attempting to calm her angering heart. "Then a strange man in a pitch black cloak appeared right after we had just gotten away from those creatures. Zena told me to take the chance... and run. I had done so but was soon cornered by those creatures once more." she inquired quickly glancing at Leon to inspect his features for his reaction.

"I wasn't cornered for long since they disappeared suddenly when they were just about to attack me... After that happened I ran back to only find Zena being taken away by the man in the black cloak. Then after I was all alone a gust of wind seemed to knock me off the very ground, and before I knew it my whole world was clouded with darkness, and I blacked out. Next thing I know I'm on this very ground, and you're here..."

Before Mimi could gaze to Leon once more she muttered to herself in a weak tone.

"This all wouldn't have happened if I had brought my shield with me..."

At the tug of his coat Axel's gaze averted from Saix to the acquaintance behind him. Slightly startled at the action he turned patting Zena's head to try and calm her. He could already tell that Saix wasn't causing a good impression. The tension in the air was beginning to dampen his fiery spirit at his old friend's mood. It was all the more reason for him to leave, and transgress into the next phase of his task.

"Then see to it that it's finished."

With Saix's words the red head nodded in approval pushing a hand onto Zena's back, and beginning to usher said woman out to whence they came. Their backs turned to the intimidating figure Axel found himself cringing his teeth as he tried to keep calm. The foul tension was still clouding the air, and it was all the more reason to depart.

Saix turned to gaze upon the Nobody. The gaze in his eyes hardened at the sight of Zena. Whatever emotions he predicated he would have had at the moment was hidden well behind the dead features he bore. "This is a warning, Axel. Either you keep her out of the way, or you'll be facing the consequences." Saix inquired at the black cloaked member restraining himself from revealing Axel's true name in Zena's presence.

Halting in his tracks the red head simply tilted his head at Saix's words of warning. With muttered words he continued on finally ushering Zena out the door, and closing it behind him shaking his head in disapproval.

"That went rather well."

He hardly doubted his words would lighten Zena's confusion, questions, and mood. It wouldn't hurt to try he believed. He would at least attempt to be hospitable to the woman after all.

Leon listened as she told her story, working worse off a she did so. He shook his head slightly. What she was describing sounded an awful like the Nobodies as well as dusks. What would they want with this girl much less her friend? He couldn't count the reasons whirling in his head. It wasn't like they targeted anyone like this before.

"Do you have any idea why you two would have been targeted?" He inquired slowly.

He patted her shoulder a moment after, attempting to comfort her in some way. "Whether you had had a weapon or not, I doubt things would have resulted different. Those weren't small fries you were dealing with."

Leon didn't care to admit it, especially with the woman in this state but it was a hard truth. The Nobodies weren't ones to mess with. Whatever they wanted with Mimi much less her friends, he hoped it wasn't so much of a lost cause. Zena was in the Nobody's hands and there was no telling if she would be harmed or not.

"Come on," he prodded a moment after. "We can talk as we head back to the base. I'm sure you want to sort this all out."

Most did, after all. There were very few brave souls who took this kind of thing 'well', in a sense of the word. Some simply had a goal in mind, finding someone they had lost. Mimi might very well be the same when she sorted out her emotions. Leon would have to keep an eye on her. If she tried to go off and find the Nobodies on her own, there was no telling what could happen.

Given how shaken up she was now, he couldn't imagine it would end well if she tried to confront them.

Zena ran a hand through her hair, uncertain of the comfort she received. It really did seem like this man had every intention to keep her comfortable and safe but for what reason. At that, why was she brought here? The words that he had given her earlier still rang in her head but did not provide her with an answer. Why was she so important.

She was glad to be directed out of the room, the warning left lingering in her mind. Zena clenched her jaw at that, wondering just what Saix had meant. She tried to shake the thoughts from her head. Even coming out of the room, there was still heavy tension in the air, added stress that she did not need.

"Seems like quite the cheery fellow," she commented a moment after.

Zena wasn't sure why but it didn't sit right with her knowing that he could easily be punished for whatever mistake she made. What mistakes would those be? What was 'getting in the way' to him? She could only assume that she would be informed one way or another, given time.

She glanced up at the red head again, watching his expression for a moment. He seemed less than pleased himself. Zena had to wonder if there was a reason for it. She scolded herself a moment after, trying to ignore these thoughts. Zena was always open to others, regardless of the situation, and it sometimes got her into trouble.

"I take it you two have a...past of sorts?" she inquired. She scoffed a moment after. "Can you tell me why I'm this important 'cargo'? I would really like to know." She shook her head a moment after. "And I don't really care to be labeled as 'cargo', okay. I have a name." She pointed at man, as if to indicate that he use it.

Zena had never been one to care for being left in the dark. She wanted to be informed and she would pick and prod until the information was out. That was simply who she was. Her own impatience and sarcasm was a bit of a coping method at that. If she could make light of a situation, she felt better about it.

She simply hoped that this method wouldn't back fire on her.

With a shake of her head the woman hadn't the faintest clue as to why the Nobodies selected her or Zena. It was another question that didn't have an answer; there were too many questions without answers, and it was beginning to grow more troubling by the minute.

Shifting her weight Mimi raised a hand to her forehead as her head began pounding. The stress and information was still trying to take effect. Things simply dashed by too fast. What's more Leon's questions in the end only provided her with more of her own unanswered.

The reality of the situation pounded hard into her skull as the woman stood there breathing through her nose heavily. What weight placed itself on her shoulders before only seemed to grow heavier as the situation became more complex in her view. All that was needed was a good rest, and soon enough the pieces of the puzzle to be able to fit together in her favor. Mimi just hoped that this wasn't going to become a lost cause in the end.

Leon's inquiry to follow him took a moment to process. Beginning to drag her feet across the ground the woman followed with a lost gaze. She was unsure of what to do, but she had a faint idea that she just couldn't leave Zena's capture alone. It was the one memory that seem to pinch her heart the most out of all she could recollect.

"To think it all started when that shield appeared..." Mimi muttered under her breath as she followed Leon hoping the path to resolve her problem would become clear soon enough. In due time the woman could say one thing: She vowed to try to find a way to Zena, and the Nobodies along the way.

Axel sighed as he shook his head. Scratching his head the shell hesitated to answer the woman's question. The memories of what he used to be would rise up, and eventually would become too painful for him. At the thought of that situation a line graced his lips as he played into his usual routine. "Yes. We have a past of sorts." was all he managed before being faced with Zena's barrage of questions.

Before the red head realized he had his hands raised in defense as Zena pointed a finger at him. With slight surprise he simply gazed upon the shorter woman, and made himself a mental note to not push her buttons later on. Quickly regaining his cool demeanor Axel calmly began his method to calm the woman ready to answer the questions she demanded to be answered.

"Calm down, calm down. Don't get your heart in a twist."

With a slight joke of the heart he cocked a smirk. "What he means by 'cargo'," he paushed raising up his fingers and bending them to emphasize the word. "Is that you simply have something we don't. You're important and you carry something special... That something is a heart." he admitted a hint of sadness in his emerald green eyes.

"We don't have hearts. You do. Got it memorized?"

Leon listened to her words. It seemed she'd been chosen for something but what? This frail young woman? She didn't look like that of a fighter. With how she was taking all of this, she seemed rather weak. He had to remind himself he had seen worse off and most of those people had proven him wrong in the past.

Their walk was rather slow paced. Leon didn't see any reason to speed up but glancing down at her once or twice, he took note of the pain twisted on her expression. She was not in a good way. Eventually, he halted again. Slinging the gun blade onto his back, he would leave it there for the moment. Unless it was needed, it would remain as such.

Leon didn't give any warning before he scooped her up carefully into his arms. He wasn't used to this kind of thing and couldn't ignore his heart stirring in response to this. Leon was quick to quash it, wondering why it had picked up so quickly in the first place. He glanced at her rather shocked expression, giving a slight shake of his head.

"You look like you're ready to pass out again," he commented lightly. "I can't have that, now can I?"

He was doing his best to lift her spirits. Until she was rested and able to calm herself down, he kept whatever questions he had to himself. He was sure the others would want to speak with her too. Eventually, he knew Sora and the others would return. If she was still around, Mimi might provide helpful information to them as well.

For the moment, they were putting quite a bit on this young woman's shoulders. He felt a little bad, knowing that. It wasn't like he had paced his questions out as slowly as he had hoped.

"We'll get you a place to rest," he plowed on a few moments after. "And worry about the rest when you've had a chance to clear your head."

Zena crossed her arms over her chest as he plowed on, explaining the situation to her. She couldn't make heads or tails of it and her mind started to scream at her. She had a heart and he didn't? Was it a figure of speech or was he being serious? How did one function without a heart? Didn't a person need it to live.

She ran a hand through her dark hair, careful to avoid the ear pieces she had placed there. An expression of doubt flickered across her face. This wasn't making any sense to her.

"You don't have a heart, than how are you here?" She shot back. "If you didn't have a heart," she plowed on, motioning to the man in front of her. "Then you'd most likely just be...dead."

Zena wasn't able to extend her disbelief on this issue. She found it ironic, in fact, that she couldn't wrap her head around it. She'd chased after these things that he called 'dusks', things that weren't supposed to exist. She'd started studying spell casting and magic, that wasn't supposed to exist either, yet it had and right under most people's noses.

But him not having a heart or any of the people here? That was completely unbelievable in her mind.

She ruffled her hair in frustration, unable to find an answer. "It's not...possible, okay! It's not!"

Without the careful hesitation she had adopted before, she grabbed his arm and leaned closer to him, press her ear against his chest. She lingered for several seconds, hearing nothing. She gnawed at her lip at that. After pulling away, her hand found it's way down to his wrist, pushing the sleeve of his jacket up a little. She placed her index and middle finger against the place where his pulse was and waited, feeling nothing. She threw her hands up after letting go.

"How is this a thing!?" She inquired loudly, ignoring her voice bouncing off the wall. Zena grabbed both his arms next, shaking him a little. "How do you not have a heart!? How is that possible!? How are you alive?!"

Zena eventually pulled back, her fingers brushing passed her forehead for a moment. The light colors were enough to give her a headache. Now, with these questions lingering in her mind, it only worsened. She hoped that her yelling wouldn't have disturbed Saix. She didn't want Axel getting wrapped up in some punishment because she couldn't suspend her disbelief.

The memory that was being attended to was the start of all her troubles. The very shield that appeared in her home had been the start of the string of events. As heavy as the weapon was Mimi had attempted to practice with it admitting to herself that she still wasn't used to it's weight. Able to fully lift it the woman was proud of that fact, but still unimpressed with the little knowledge of the abilities provided with it.

Mimi's expression twisted with pain at the complexity of her situation. The memories still scrambled and the pieces didn't fit. Her body ached from the stress and begged for rest. The needs that needed to be filled were left open, and a mess of an individual was still dragging across the world. Things couldn't have been worse. The pacing was a form of comfort on Leon's part, and she kept up with ease on the most part despite the slow pace.

The woman had almost missed Leon halting in his steps for a moment. Twisting her body to gaze up at him the woman was exhausted to fully realize what was to come next. The motion of her body being lifted off the ground caused her to stiffen in surprise unsure of how to react. The beat of her heart quickened in that moment. Gazing up to him the woman quashed the quickened motion of her heart for now to recall later.

At his comment Mimi felt more calm her body releasing some tension that was built up inside. A soft sigh escaped her lips, and the woman closed her eyes loosing focus on the world around her. The only sounds that were to be heard was the soft steps of Leon's shoes against the ground that soothed her ears.

Axel didn't expect Zena to not straight out believe him. He prepared himself for a string of reactions, but what was in store from the shorter woman he had never expected. The shooting path of statements and facts caused him to crease a brow, placing his hands on his hips in the process as he listened.

Zena's words were true logically, but she was overlooking the details it seemed. True he didn't expect her to believe his explanation immediately, but the way she was reacting seemed priceless in a way. He admitted to himself that he wouldn't be able to believe the words himself if he placed himself in her shoes.

It was like magic though - it seemed impossible yet it existed. People hardly knew of other worlds out there in the past, yet there were many beyond belief. It was the same theory in his situation. He was human but without a heart. It seemed scientifically impossible yet it existed right under their noses.

The way Zena tried to ruffle and wrap her head around the truth seemed to entertain him in a sense. If he had a heart at this moment he predicted that he would be feeling a sense of joy from the sight. He couldn't comprehend the reason but he smiled without realizing.

The smile on his lips eroded away into a dead line with widened eyes. With Zena so close to him Axel didn't know how to react. Caught off guard in such a position the man simply stood there letting Zena listen to a heart beat of any kind. The action made his body twitch slightly in reaction, and a tinge of warmth to envelop the empty shell that he was. When the woman had pulled away he began wondering just what she would attempt to do to prove her theory. Even after trying to listen to his pulse Axel still felt strange unsure of the motions that had just taken place.

Even her yelling caught him off guard almost blowing his flame out by the surprising actions. Zena's voice bounced off the walls, and the red head simply cringed his teeth hoping Saix simply ignored the situation from the other side. The shaking from the black haired woman was simply enough to almost quash his calm and cool demeanor.

After a few moments the man stood there even after Zena pulled away still slightly shocked from the event that just took place. Placing a hand on the woman's shoulder he could examine her expression.

"It may not look possible, but I'm standing here. I don't have a heart, yet I'm breathing just like you. Thing is I'm all through as a human being. All you're looking at is the lingering memory of what I used to be. The most important part of me, what used to be inside, died years ago and I'm just functioning by rote memory."

He scanned Zena for her expression before smiling at the woman and patting her head. "I'm all done. Though the reason why we need you is because you have a heart. You can... help us." he ignored the pause in his sentence blocking the pool of memories of what he used to be and shoving them back down inside his own world of darkness.

"We Nobodies are just empty shells, Zena. That's what I am."

Leon blinked down at the woman, feeling his heart quicken a little as she laid closer into him. She'd closed her eyes, allowing her body the rest she so desperately needed. So many were like this but he could easily tell she was both mentally and physically exhausted. There were very few that bounced back quickly.

He picked up his pace, his gaze falling ahead of him again. Leon would have rather avoided getting caught up in a battle in this condition. Mimi wouldn't be able to handle it and he would have to protect her. He was capable of doing as such but one could never tell what might happen.

He'd rather avoid some form of trouble if he could.

There was a matter of why she and her friend had been targeted as well. Would the Nobodies come back for Mimi, take her like they had taken her friend? Would they use that friend to their advantage? These and many other questions swirled through his mind, demanding answers that he did not receive.

He shook his head slightly afterward, trying to shake his mind of the thoughts. Wondering wasn't doing him much good as it was. It would simply be a matter of waiting and seeing what happened.

Coming toward the building they resided in, Leon was quick to fiddle with the doorknob and kick the door closed behind him. He ignored that glance Cid shot his way, a rather bland "'nother one?" greeting him. Leon barely spared a nod before moving to find a room for Mimi to sleep. It didn't take him long to do so and when he did, he sat her on the bed, mulling over what to do next.

Leon decided to stick around until she woke, occasionally passing information of the woman to the others. Until she woke up, everything was still in a bit of a foggy state.

Zena didn't pull her attention from her thoughts until he spoke again. For someone who didn't have a heart, he took everything rather calmly and explained in a gentle sort of manner, as if to attempt to calm her down. Why this affected her so much, her heart stirring in response, she did not know. He patted her head once again and it left her feeling rather odd.

Zena's expression twisted as he spoke of being an empty shell, a memory of someone long ago. She swallowed thickly, her expression twisting into that of worry and sadness. Had she done something wrong? Judged him wrong even? Was this act really so innocent as to regain what he'd lost?

She raised her head again, glancing at him before she gaze a slight nod. "Alright," she finally spoke up, her tone quieter than before. "I'm sorry...if I over reacted or offended you in any way."

Zena watched his expression carefully. She didn't care for him calling himself an empty shell. Thinking about it, not including the business about not having a heart, in a way, he still existed. He was in front of her, speaking with her. It wasn't like he was a ghost. She didn't pass through him when she had grabbed him nor did he her when he patted her head.

"What do I have to do to help you?" she plowed on. She'd accept whatever she had to do, as long as his promise was kept. "And don't call yourself an 'empty shell'," she murmured afterward. "I don't really like that you seem so comfortable calling yourself that..."

She wasn't sure why it bothered her so much. It simply did. Everyone and everything existed for a reason. It was like he'd given up on those reasons, that he had no reason. She didn't like to think in that manner and didn't want others to think that way either.

The soft chattering of voices and faint mutters was muffled as Mimi laid on the bed. Breathing softly the woman was lost in the world of dreams simply scurrying about with the dreams that visited. The tension that was once in her system had all but faded away and the stress that weighed her shoulders down disappeared.

The few pairs of eyes that were on her went unnoticed, and one of the few that gazed upon the woman belonged to Aerith. Said woman had seen many faces that had lost their worlds, yet each time she still worried somewhere inside for each one the group found. "I'll let you know when Sora and the others get here." she simply informed gazing down at the man.

Ears twitching slightly at the call of her name Aerith patted Leon's shoulder before disappearing through the exit.

Soon the brown haired woman began to stir slightly at the distant voices. Eyelids began to flutter open revealing the soft blue color of the pair of eyes they adorned. What fatigue and exhaustion that hid themselves in the color faded away only slightly. The rest seemed short, but nonetheless it was a rest. The woman just simply didn't have the strength to rise up yet.

The first sight that graced her was the simple cobble ceiling. With each blink Mimi slowly became more awake, and began to even gaze around the room before catching Leon. A bit surprised Mimi shifted slightly curiosity brimming in her gaze.

Axel had lost what little hope he carried those many days ago. All the time that Sora was at rest he made friends with Roxas and another individual. Having a hard time he couldn't always remember said individual perfectly, but he knew that the figure was friends with him and Roxas. After the pain of not being able to remember the face of the mysterious shadow, he went through more pain to loose Roxas.

He lost all hope then.

Even if it meant loosing his memories the red head vowed to find a way to get Roxas back, and to perhaps remember that daunting face in what memories he carried of them. With a distant gaze the empty shell glanced to the black haired woman as she apologized to him. The sight of her expression seemed to strangely cause him to place a hand on Zena's shoulder. His expression held that of a hidden and distant sadness.

"There's nothing for you to apologize for. If I was in your shoes I wouldn't know how to react either. Probably not the way you did though."

With the slight indent of a joke the red head let his fingers slip off the woman's shoulder. The reminder of his task came to mind when Zena asked her question almost making the man regret taking her away so forcefully the way he had; at least that's how he assumed he would feel. After a moment of thought and thinking of a proper start he finally reached his first step.

"We'll start with emotions. Explain what the heart does with each emotion first off."

Despite Zena's soft mutter Axel's gaze seemed to falter slightly at her words. The way the woman said them in the depressing manner she had almost made him feel sorry for her. He knew that calling himself that wasn't perfectly healthy, yet it's what he truly and bluntly was.

"If you don't like it, I won't say it. But it's what we Nobodies are truly are."

Leon had been rather quiet, only occasionally speaking up when he was informed of others coming their way. It would take time, no doubt, and for the moment he didn't mind that. Mimi had fallen into a deep slumber and he was sure it would take time for her to stir from it.

While he waited, his mind drifted on a several many things. What the organization wanted with her friend? Why would they involve someone with a heart? This wasn't a move they made before, so why? What was the significant behind it? Despite trying to find answers, Leon was left short, unsure of what to think. This didn't happen everyday, after all.

Minutes ticked by as he listened to the ticking of a clock. It was actually a relaxing sound, his thoughts left elsewhere for the moment. There was no point in worrying over such things until they were grouped together, after all. Mimi would have to retell her story after she was rested. He silently hoped she would be in better shape at that point.

Leon didn't have to wait too long. He listened as the woman began to stir. It was a slow process but eventually, she looked about her surroundings slowly before her gaze fell onto him. Leon offered a slight smile in response.

"Glad to see you're back," he commented lightly, watching her expression carefully. "You were pretty dead to the world before we got here."

Indeed, she had been. Even before she had passed out, she had been rather 'gone', in a sense. No doubt, coping with this kind of stress wasn't so easy, especially knowing that her friend had been taken away without so much as an explanation for it.

Not that the organization would ever be as so kind as to offer an explanation to anything.

"We have some friends heading this way," Leon explained a few moments after. "They might be able to help us out, clear up some of the questions."

Leon watched her, gauging her expression. She still seemed rather lost to the world though, he couldn't quite blame her. He hoped that she wouldn't have any trauma to deal with after being torn from her home world, separated from her friend. He knew it was entirely too possible.

"If you still need to take time though, we won't push you."

He worried about her state of health. Given how badly she had reacted waking when he found her, he had to wonder if she was dealing with this well enough or not. Time could only tell. He hoped with Sora's cheerful mood, her spirits might be lifted. The kid did wonders on a great many people, after all. That optimism went a long way.

Tentatively, he reached out, ruffling her hair gently. "Don't worry too much though." He commented after a moment.

Pulling his hand back, he crossed his arms over his chest again, gazing at nothing in particular. The least he could do was keep her company.

Zena wasn't sure how she felt about the entire situation. One moment she was fighting to keep herself from understand this man, the next she was willingly helping him. He was doing her no harm, despite the wanted fight earlier and forceful way he had dragged her to this place.

Her mind was left whirling, unsure of what his intentions were. He generally seemed to want to protect her. But for what? Her heart? She wasn't sure. The most she could figure to do was attempt to help. He had mentioned others and after seeing Saix, she didn't doubt those others could give her more trouble, forceful or not, if they wanted to.

Zena studied his expression slightly, scratching her cheek with her index finger. She still felt bad for over reacting. She'd studied magic after all. It shouldn't have been that surprising to her, yet, it had been.

"If you're sure," was all she managed to respond to.

She glanced up at him again as he plowed on. Zena raised an eyebrow, a little intrigued by what he was asking her to explain. Emotions, feelings, how one dealt with certain situations. She began listing them off in her head. She hadn't really thought of it before, even as she had her heart, it was something that simply felt natural and was taken for granted.

Pushing her bangs out of her eyes, she took a few moments to mull over it. "Well that would depend," she finally spoke up in response. "On the person and how they deal with certain situations. Not every one reacts to the same thing in the same way. Feelings are different, so I suppose the heart would feel different things."

Zena wasn't sure if she was making much sense but she figured it might have been a start. She had never had to think of such things, after all. She ruffled her hair as she explained this, a habit she'd picked up quite some time ago.

"It'd only be natural for a shy person to become bashful in certain situations and the heart would react in response. Whereas a bolder person might not feel anything at all or even tend to grow braver over that action."

She waved a hand slightly, as if to dismiss the entire thing. "No...that's stupid..."

Zena found it wasn't easy to explain and she was growing a little frustrated with herself in not finding the right answer. She'd always had a heart, why was it so hard to rely her emotions or what she felt? Did she know so little about herself? She tried to shake that thought away. She didn't quite care for it.

Glancing back up at him, she pressed her thick framed glasses back onto the bridge of her nose. "It's a little hard to explain." She puffed out a sigh, trying to simplify it. "I guess for me, if I'm sad, it always really hurts in my chest, like I'm being stabbed. But when I'm happy, it's more uplifting. There's no weight on my shoulders. Of course, these are very basic emotions. I can fully admit that there are emotions I haven't quite felt, like hopelessness or rage, even love."

Zena shook her head as she rattled on. She wasn't sure if she was helping or not. She hoped that she was. This wasn't something she thought about everyday but now that she'd been asked, she was rather curious to see where it would lead.

It was a small book that Lacie held in her her hand, flipped open to a well worn page. They were her notes, the symbols she had sketched in for future use from the huge tome she had found once upon a time. It had given her something more productive to focus on than the decay of her world in the past year, anyways. It had been luck that the spell book had appeared before her. Though what kind of a magic she was using was beyond her knowledge. It wasn't like anything she had seen before with the local boys training as mages.

A thoughtful frown lined Lacie's lips as she glanced between the rough sketch in her book and what she had already placed along the ground with chalk. The bit of chalk in her hand hovered over the pavement, the section she was using cleared of dirt and chunks of rock. Though there was peculiar dark stain near her hand that Lace suspected was old blood.

She hummed, gnawing on her lip. Lacie tapped the chalk to the ground a few times before hastily finishing off the remainder of the large, circular symbol she had been focusing on. Double checking it was correct she stood, tucking both the chalk and the book back into the pouch at her belt.

Her pink gaze darted back and forth, looking for those strange creatures that had started hanging about a year or so ago. Neither the dark ones or the white ones were nearby. Lacie was happy about this. She wasn't too confident about this spell yet, did not know how it might work or if she had even done it right.

She had no stencil made for it yet, thus this long roundabout way of making it. She reached for one of the two spray cans at her hip, hesitantly shaking it. The clanging that resounded was loud, harsh to her ears. Lacie kept a vigilant eye on her surroundings in case those dark or white ones arrived to investigate the sound.

Only after a minute had passed did she get back down on her knees, spraying the mixture stored in the can over her chalk lines. It would be another tedious process, being careful not to merge lines. If it came out right she would be able to travel to new worlds though Lacie would have no idea as to where she would end up or if she would even be able to pick a destination once inside this portal of hers.

Lacie hoped, curious as to what might happen, that this spell would work. Corridors of darkness had been made mention in the original tome she had taken this spell from. Would she travel by those or by some other method? She supposed she would find out.

Physically Mimi was perfectly in shape, but mentally it was a pool of disaster. With all that's happened now the woman had the time to mull everything over - to think more clearly. The mention of certain individuals and the need to explain once more caused a sigh to escape the woman's lips. Keeping in mind that she could go at her own pace the woman began to ponder over the words needed to be chosen carefully in the future for her explanation.

Would these certain individuals understand fully? Would anyone be able to help in her case? Would she be able to retrieve Zena and bring her back home? What would become of her at first?

The many questions left unanswered began pounding at her causing Mimi to quickly quash the thoughts and drift her focus to Leon. Tilting her head she gazed upon him wondering what the man provided for her. Finding the power to speak Mimi softly focused her attention to Leon wanting to take the situation one step at a time.

"Anything is better than nothing."

Finding the strength to surface the expression needed, Mimi smiled creasing her brows slightly as she had done so. The strength that had been all but ripped away from her had returned yet she still wasn't all dead to the world. Slowly the pieces were surfacing and piecing together; her healthy mentality was coming back. She just needed to take each step slowly.

Then the woman could glide at her own pace once she set a goal.

At the soft touch of Leon's hands against her head the woman's eyes widened. A soft tint of pink surfaced onto her cheeks at the contact not sure of how to take in the sudden action. Wanting to hide her bashful exterior the woman began to fix the hat she adorned wishing that at the moment she wasn't so shy.

An excited bouncing suddenly echoed through the hardwood floors before the source revealed itself. Yuffie's excited demeanor could be easily made out as she saluted in her goofy manner. "Squall! Sora and the others have arrived!" she announced before dashing out the room ignoring the fact that she had addressed him by his first name.

listened intently to Zena's explanation of certain emotions of the heart. The descriptions of the emotions caused his gaze to soften at the young woman as he simply stood there and listened to her at the moment. Melancholy would have been flowing through his empty shell if he had a heart - the nostalgia clearly written on his features even without said life force.

The memories of before surfaced once more not only just about Roxas and that cloaked figure, but about Isa and him back in Hollow Bastion as well. The way they were young and simply children... They hadn't a clue as to what they would become. It was just simply a time he wanted to enjoy. He wanted to have fun, be free, live out his life, but instead he was here. His heart had been taken away in a flash and nothing but a memory was left standing here.

The growing and continuing memory of a man long gone.

At Zena's mention of some emotions the woman hadn't felt he simply nodded his head understanding her point. "I can pinpoint that it's normal to not feel certain emotions. There are so many that sometimes we never feel them at all until we're older." he admitted. Though pausing for a moment he smirked and reluctantly corrected himself. "Well... For those of you who have hearts." Beginning to walk down the slope he placed a hand on the woman's back gently guiding her along with him through the platforms of the castle.

"Love though... That's an interesting emotion. There are supposed to be many forms of it from what I've seen through all my time out there."

Suddenly a dark portal appeared in front of the two immediately causing Axel to grab Zena by the arms and pull her behind him. Keeping an arm slightly elevated he was prepared to protect the woman in case it was someone like Xaldin or Xigbar. Revealing themselves the figure stepped through the portal with an individual card in his grip.

Luxord sighed slightly as he returned from the world he explored finding nothing but boring and empty shells of Heartless and Nobodis. "I hate it when there's an empty world that idiot sends me to..." he muttered to himself before catching sight of none other than Axel. With a smirk crossing his lips he was well aware of the individual he was hiding.

"So I see you had some success on your end."

Seeing slight relief on Axel's end the fiery red head relaxed letting his shoulders slump. "If I had a heart Luxord I'd tell you that you almost scared me." he admitted half-heartily. The gambler simply chuckled at the man's words before simply brushing past the two.

"I could care less, Axel. It's all a part of the game."

With those parting words Luxord disappeared into the dark abyss of another portal that was summoned suddenly by his own will. Reaching the square of the Clock Tower he stepped own of the said darkness and into the world feeling a slight disturbance in the area. It was a strange air floating about in the town - the darkness even seeming to be a bit strange. It was as if something entered here; like a ball of light that didn't belong here in the first place.

"Now what pawn is out of play..."

With a hushed tone he twirled the card he possessed in between his fingers gazing upon the dark buildings of the town, and ignoring the few lit neon lights.

Lacie couldn't be sure how much time had passed. She had been one to wear a watch as it was. All she knew was that night was closing in on this world, the few street lamps that still worked flickering on as the darkness arrived and deepened and the smell of the concoction she sprayed over her chalk marks. It was only due to her peripheral vision did she notice any sort of threat arriving as it was.

A yelp escaped her as she threw herself to the side, avoiding the dark creature's claws. It had appeared out of nowhere, gathering in the shadows and growing in shape. It wasn't all that tall but any sort of weapon that Lacie had attempted to use on them before had been for naught. They just slide right through their strange bodies. It was that ability that made them so dangerous.

She grunted as her hip took the brunt of the impact of her fall, her leg getting scraped up at the knee as well. Her shorts and boots did little to protect her knees and thighs, after all. Lacie quickly scrambled up on to her feet, spray can still in hand. She had no time to rip out a prepared stencil. There had been one spell that was able to trap the creatures if they stepped onto the markings once placed on the ground, wall or ceiling but it was something complex and needed to be set up in forethought.

The creature's yellow eyes watched her as it shuffled closer. Its crooked and kinked antennae wavered through the air as if sensing something that she could not. Lacie hurried back, glancing behind her and to the sides only to make sure she was not being surrounded. At this rate she wouldn't be able to finish her original goal and to get off this doomed world.

"If you want me you'll have to try harder than that!" she goaded, turning and bolting off, slipping the spray can into the proper loop at her belt. She couldn't risk loosing it. It took some time to prepare the concoction inside them, after all.

She raced by the streets, her boots thumping hard on the ground. Here and there she could see more of those creatures - all sorts of shapes and sizes though a small, rather ant-like species seemed most common - in the neon lights of bars and clubs and the working street lights. Anyone that might hear her or look out the shops windows would only warn those inside and be ready to run if the dark creatures focused on them instead.

Lacie didn't blame them. It was normal human nature to protect oneself first and foremost, after all. She could still hope that someone might have enough heart to want to come and help her if they had some secret method to defeating these creatures that others did not know about.

Leon watched her carefully. She still seemed to be in a rather bad way. He couldn't say he blamed her. It took quite a bit of time to cope with the fact that one had been taken from their home, much less having a friend kidnapped for unknown reasons. If she needed help in any form, he'd wait until she spoke up about it.

It was silent for quite a bit, Mimi only speaking up a little in the time they had waited. Leon took to listening to the clock again, just to focus on something other then silence. In these moments, he almost waited impatiently for Sora and the others to arrive.

Leon wasn't sure of why this was. If it had been anyone else, it wouldn't have bothered him so much. So why did it with Mimi.

He shook the thoughts away, not needing them for the moment. It wouldn't help her as it was. They would have to take some action. They'd worry about what would happen to Zena later. He didn't want to focus on the negative at the moment.

"Don't overtax yourself," he spoke up, glancing at the young woman. She seemed to be doing just that. "I highly doubt the Nobodies would take your friend to harm her."

It made sense to him in that sense. It could have easily been a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Nobodies didn't have hearts. They could have simply been targeting people who did, to learn about them in some way. It was only a theory in his mind but it was something.

A few more minutes passed when Yuffie announced Sora's arrival. He scoffed as she used his first name, shaking his head. He didn't get much time to retort, however.

Leon pushed himself to his feet. He reached out, waiting for Mimi to take his hand. He wanted her to at least feel comfortable. From what he could tell, she was a tad shy and really seemed to be doing her best to cope. If he had to remain beside her for her to feel a little more comfortable, he would.

"We'll go meet Sora and the others. You can explain things to them." he explained. "Don't worry though. Sora's a goof ball. He can rub off on you."

Zena lifted her head as he spoke up again. A hand at her back, she walked with him, mulling over what he had said. It confused her. He seemed to grasp what feelings were yet he didn't have a heart. It left her rather unsure of it all. How could he recall something that he couldn't understand himself.

She ruffled her hair again, trying to push it from her mind. At this point, all she was earning was a headache, really.

She was jostled from her thoughts, her eyes widening as she was pulled behind him once again. Zena figured she might be needed to get used to this kind of thing, narrowing her eyes a little as she waited to see who would appear from the tunnel. With Axel so tense, she remained the same, unsure of what to expect.

When a blonde came through and Axel visibly relaxed, she glanced up at him. Zena allowed herself to relax a little as well, her worries quashed for a moment.

She watched as he brushed passed them only to disappear into another portal. "Well...that was quaint." she noted.

Zena shook her head, glancing up at the man. She had mulled over her words carefully, scratching her cheek. Zena lowered her gaze in thought for a moment.

"Just so you know, if I confuse you or don't make sense in any way, you can stop me whenever you want to." she spoke up, shoving her hands into her hoodie pockets. She ignored the pumpkin ornament that jostled at her neck with the movement. "It's not really easy to express feelings. Sometimes, what we feel just can't be explained."

Zena had a firm belief in that, despite how she often times used logic to understand most things. She cleared her throat a moment after.

"Where are we headed, anyways?"

It had been clear that Axel was moving them somewhere. She had to wonder what he had in mind, where they were going. Zena only prodded a little at a time, still rather unsure of what he might be planning, what any of these people were planning.

Twilight Town alwayshad felt like a droll, depressing place to Ellen. But, then again, was The World That Never Was truly any better. She told herself no, but then she told herself that Twilight Town was actually better. The consistent afternoon feeling she noticed beat the dusky, dark feeling of The World That Never Was, but she digressed. She was merely here to watch the Organization members and take notes. For Xemnas, and for someone else. She was a double-crosser, yes, but all because she could never find the right trust in either of the people she worked for.

Her best friend, she assumed, was off somewhere researching someone’s behavior. After all, her best friend was better off imitating someone than being herself. It worked out better that way. Ellen, however, had her dear puppet, Lucy, with her today. Lucy smiled up at Ellen, but Ellen motioned for Lucy to shush. There were others nearby and Ellen wanted to gather her information no problem.

She knew some of the Organization members were nearby and, if found, wanted to make sure she could freely act as if she was merely lazing through the area, exploring ‘new’ and ‘exciting’ worlds.

She sighed, heavily, looking down from her building post to see Luxord enter the area near who she could automatically identify as Axel and… some girl she did not recognize. Interesting. She whispered this to the doll in her hands, a small doll with only the ‘greatest’ memory. It would repeat these notes back to Ellen to write down later.

However, she was curious. Warm too, from the thick, black coat she donned, merely because Xemnas wanted to leave his mark on everything, even if it just made her more suspicious. The boots that came with the outfit were uncomfortable as well, but any complaints she voiced would be ignored, because the Nobodies simply did not care. She knew Xemnas didn’t completely trust her. Smart. She didn’t trust him completely either. She never would.

She didn’t care if the members ‘hated’ her either, though. She wasn’t committed to them by membership. She was a “lesser” nobody, by their standards. That was a reason she felt no remorse in assisting the ‘other side.’

She moved quick and silent, jumping down closer and listening in. Any information was good information in Ellen’s eyes. After all, as long as she was paid, she would do almost anything. Her lips showed no hint of her interest, but her bright, icy-blue eyes showed it all.

Things were about to become so much more amusing, she knew it.

However, hearing the words Axel spoke to this girl, Ellen frowned. It was bad enough he was basically handing out information about himself on a silver platter to her, but practically saying, “So, I’m taking you with me, ‘kay?” was a little overboard. The girl seemed… almost too trusting of him. “Open” hearts like this could be easy to break, and easily lost in the “Dark Corridors” thick darkness.

No matter, Ellen wasn’t ready to give her presence away just yet. Axel was someone who could probably sniff her out, and the questions could come flooding then. Until then, she silently watched the scenario unfold. Whatever the plan was, Ellen could be sure to rally little bits of information back to Xemnas, and to the other side. Telling everything to both of them though. That was never ‘fun.’ That just wasn’t
her either.

At Leon's words of comfort did the woman finally be at calm. Lifting up her hat slightly from her eyes she seemed to feel more at peace. This worrying wouldn't help her situation; it wouldn't help Zena. Others could have just given up in her place with the way things seemed.

If the Nobodies wouldn't harm her then what would they do to her?

The flurry dance of questions circled around her head in a never ending dance. Of her whole life why did it have to be at this time? Why did fate pull her into this situation? The sound of a hyper young woman bounced her into reality, and she lifted herself up slightly to gaze upon the cheery ninja Yuffie.

Finding herself tilting her head slightly at the woman as she left the room Mimi had to wonder what made her so happy; what had kept her so cheery. Quashing the thought away with a shake of her head Leon's hand came into view. Slowly gazing up to him the woman accepted the offer and rose to her feet feeling more comfortable with each motion.

Nodding at the mention of Sora and a few other's help Mimi found hope brimming inside of her. She needed all the help she could get; she wanted all the help she could get.

"Alright. Thank you, Leon."

Following the man she entered the main room of the building. Stacks of books were scattered around the room and a chalkboard could be seen scribbled with information. In the middle belonged a chair and table suited for one. The brown floors held a soft tone along with the gray walls.

It made her almost depressed once more for her own home.

"Sora! Stop that!"

A rather hoarse voice almost echoed through the home causing Aerith and Yuffie to cringe slightly at the silly quarrel that was going on. "Gwarsh..." Goofy said as he was trying to comfort Donald.

At the sight Mimi seemed amazed at the individuals before her finding her eyes widening slightly even. "Oh wow..." she whispered to herself in a mutter.

At Zena's note of Luxord's quaint behavior the red head let out a laugh. Indeed he didn't have a heart, but that didn't mean he could still commit the actions that required a heart for true and full functionality. "Well, that's Luxord for you." he soothed out bending down slightly to speak to the woman.

At Zena's warning of her possibly being unable to convey the emotions he might ask about in the future the man simply nodded. Axel understood that not all feelings could be easily explained. Not all emotions were meant to be explained for one couldn't truly understand until feeling said emotion themselves.

This indeed made him yearn for a heart, but he knew that he couldn't receive one again. Axel knew that this is who he was. Even Saix had said so himself; they would never be the same again. With that inner conflict in mind he struggled each day on the inside knowing that hard truth.

"Where are we headed, anyways?"

The question brought him back into the dark ridden world faking a quick smile to hide the pain that surfaced. "We're seeing the big boss." he whispered to the woman flashing her a quick wink before beginning to walk down a flight of stairs with Zena still by his side.

"His name is Xemnas. It's better though that I do the talking since he can be rather... I guess creepy."

Trying to lighten the mood the man smirked at his words to describe Xemnas.

The world that the gambler had traveled to seemed dark and grim. The city was filled with people inside well lit buildings. They seemed to be having a good time with their smiles and the ones they were with. The way they so freely lived their lives almost made him yearn for his own back.

A simple life that he would never get back.

The way those with hearts smiled so freely even made him jealous. Through the silent outside world of the city echoed the soft pounding of footsteps from the distance. It seemed that his intuition was correct. There was a pawn moving around.

With curiosity brimming in his eyes Luxord turned his attention to the individual running from the Heartless. Quick motions ensued as he summoned his Nobodies ushering his command for them to take charge at the dark creatures known as Heartless.

Ignoring the young woman and focusing on their opposites the Nobodies strongly resembled Luxord's own tactic of attacks. The way the creatures rolled their dice and gambled with their moves seemed to strongly signify his own.

Swishing and swirling the creatures dwindled the numbers of the Heartless that were so hungry for Lacie's heart. Eventually down to the last little Shadow did they taunt the creature before finally finishing it off.

Now it was his turn to make his move. Turning his attention to the woman as the Nobodies disappeared Luxord played with a card between his fingers smirking at Lacie. "Here I thought that this place was boring..."

Her breaths were coming in and out in great ragged gasps by the time anything happened to deter the dark ones that had accumulated in number as they gave chase. Lacie blinked, glancing between the strange white ones that had come, seemingly to her aid, to fight off the darker creatures. Lacie, against her better judgement, stopped to watch. She hadn't seen these sorts of white ones before. They attacked with dice and cards but why?

She stepped back a few paces, keeping a safe distance between herself and these creatures, just in case one were to break off and target her again. Lacie's pink gaze watched, confused as to what was going on. And was it just her or did those white creatures actually taunt the dark one before finishing it off?

"Here I thought that this place was boring..."

Lacie spun around, putting more distance between herself and the man dressed in the long, dark coat. Where had he come from?! Had he been here that entire time? Lacie's brow furrowed as she grew ready to dash off in case he presented any threat.

"Who are you?" she demanded, observing what she could of him in the nearest bar's neon lights. From what she could make out he was a blond and had a few piercings in one ear.

From the looks of him it seemed as if he was here for something or other. What for? Lacie tried her best not to dwell on these things. She needed to find another quiet spot, an abandoned one to try her spells without interruption.

Leon smiled slightly as Mimi accepted his hand. While still looking slightly shaken, she seemed to be doing her best to reign herself in. He hoped that she would continue moving in the right direction. This would be the best way to help her friend, after all.

They couldn't waste time and wonder what might happen to her. He still doubted that they would hurt them woman, however. From what he had been told, Leon saw no reason for the Organization to bring harm to Zena, much less have a reason to hold her.

The only thing he could assume was some form of advantage as a hostage.

Leon shook the thoughts away they entered the next room. It was a mess, though, in the past years, this had become very normal. Research piling on top of each other, discarded books with papers sticking out of them. It would only get worse as the days came.

The loud voices, however, were newer though not unwelcome.

"You two never stop arguing, do you?" Leon inquired, crossing his arms over his chest.

He shook his head as Donald scoffed, turning his own head, crossing his arms over his chest. Sora only grinned cheekily, placing his hands behind his head. Leon shook his head, motioning toward Mimi.

"This is who we called you about." he plowed on. "Mimi's friend has been taken by the Organization. Figured she could explain and you guys might be able to help out."

Goofy gave a slight nod in response. He raised a hand, waving toward Mimi. "Well, uh, I don't see why we couldn't." Goofy spoke up. "But first, I'm Goofy. This is Donald," he motioned to the white duck, tapping his 'foot' impatiently. "And this is Sora."

Sora grinned, letting his hands falling back to his side. He placed a hand on his hip, his right one motioning to Mimi and Leon. "Why don't you tell us what happened, Mimi?" Sora pressed. "Then we'll see how we can help your friend, okay?"

Leon smiled slightly at Sora. Despite his rash and overly cheerful behavior at times, he seemed to be taking a gentle turn toward this entire thing. That was a good act. Mimi needed patient people at the moment. Little things, Leon had no doubt, could easily set her off.

Zena blinked, watching his behavior carefully. He seemed in and out of this world, often lost in a moments thought. She wasn't sure if she was correct or not. For all she knew, she could be reading too much into it. From where she stood, however, that's just what it seemed like.

She shook her head slightly, reaching out and tugged the sleeve of his coat. Despite the circumstances, he seemed a rather lax man and didn't seem to be wanting to hurt her. Between who she had seen so far, she figured her best bet was to stick with Axel at this point; even trust him if she wanted to stay alive.

She had no idea who these others would treat her, after all; as an item or a person. From the way Saix had spoken, she had guessed that she might have been more of an item, in the end.

"Why do you always look so down?" she inquired, a frown marring her lips. She looked up, studying his expression. "Do you need to talk about it?"

It seemed that they wouldn't get that much time to focus on it as he plowed on, telling her where they were headed. She paused for only a moment, her frown still on her lips, as they began walking again. She didn't quite care for the thought of this 'Xemnas', from what he was telling her.

"From what you've been telling me, I'd believe it," she responded after he explained about his 'boss'. "Though, I'm seeing quite a few interesting faces, from what I've seen so far."

She glanced at the bland walls, if only for something to do. She couldn't deny her nervousness or fear in these moments. From one to another, these people, or rather 'Nobodies', were up in the air to her. Who they were, what their intentions were. Zena could only assume.

Even being forced here, Axel seemed friendly enough and she would put her trust into him.

She glanced up at him again, if only for a moment. Her gaze soon fell back to her feet as they walked down the stairs. Gnawing at her lip, she shook her head slightly.

"I'll trust you," she admitted, turning her head slightly. "Just...don't misuse it. I don't hand out my trust very easily..."

In hindsight, she figured that this might not be the best option in the end. He hadn't done anything to her as of yet. If he said that he was going to keep her safe, she'd believe it. She didn't see any reason not to; at least, not at the moment.

Still, she had no idea why she decided to duck her head as bashful as she did. She shook the thoughts away, following Axel. She wondered what this Xanmas would do or be like. It still left her nervous but she tried not to focus on it.

The group of people before her all seemed to hold a strong feeling of good will. Despite the first impression of a silly argument unknown to her the woman felt a small smile etch onto her lips as she tried to regain herself from the shaky experience she suffered. Mimi had to wonder just how many others there were out there like her that suffered a situation like this.

At the wave of Goofy's hand Mimi returned the wave tilting her head and giving off a friendly smile. With each gesture to the individuals introduced the woman nodded her head taking care to remember their names as she gazed upon them - remembering their appearance to the best of her ability for what time she had. "It's nice to meet you." she greeted with a nod of her head.

With a heave of a sigh from her lips she slid her hat off her head and began rubbing the top of her head. The explanation was a rather long one, and she provided every detail to the three before her. Mimi was careful to explain how she noticed their world was changing, the shield that first appeared on her arm without warning from the very start, and how the town became deserted. From when she and Zena met, to being chased by the Nobodies, Mimi took careful time explaining what needed to be said.

She took care to even mention Axel as well; that very man's name seemed anger her a little for taking Zena away.

Finishing the explanation while putting the hat she adorned back onto her head, Mimi looked to Sora, Donald, and Goofy and frowned.

"But I'd like to try and get her back myself in my own way. Zena protected me, and took risks for me during everything that happened. I need to try and return that favor."

With those words Mimi wasn't sure what the others in the room would say - even Leon.

Letting his hold on the woman slip off Axel began to become truly relaxed in his own sense. The very thoughts of the friendship that once was still scarred him deeply; despite the fact of not carrying the purest life source in the whole universe - a heart - he was still hurt. He couldn't remember that third smiling face whom was the smallest out of the trio.

The way she smiled and laughed hurt him. The echo's of Roxas' words and their teamwork on missions caused nostalgia. Everything started off so well that fateful year. Now here he was with another possible friend; one that has an actual heart.

His own motives began to become clouded in judgement at his original intent. That intent seemed long forgotten as he began to make sense to himself. With the slight tug of his clothing the tall shell looked down to the woman who offered her help to him. A smile etched onto his lips and he patted the woman's head as a sign that he was alright.

Not just yet...

With the words of trust Zena spoke of something inside Axel seemed to light up. It was if the dull colors of his dark form turned on in the light making him seem brighter. Though it quickly died down again, and the smile that was etched onto his lips seemed to grow slightly.

"Some of the members here will misuse that trust. I wouldn't though. Believe it or not I did used to have friends that trusted in me. The others here weren't so lucky."

He spoke softly as if he didn't want the Heartless or Nobodies that were possibly roaming around in the empty abyss of the castle to hear him. Even if they were only there minding their own business, some were there to keep an eye on him.

At the thought Saix had come to mind. The man that he himself once trusted is no more. Changing drastically over the years he and the man had grown so far apart. All those years ago on that world they were just simple children enjoying their lives.

Now they were here in the most misunderstood position.

"Xemnas can be dangerous... That's why I'm keeping you close. In my opinion he can be a bit hard, and he doesn't move around a lot."

Reaching a doorway after a few twists and turns Axel grabbed the handle seeming to let out a sigh of tension and built up stress. "But only I don't see him often." he finished before grabbing Zena's hand with a slight tight grip. Opening the door he stepped inside leading her in before he himself shut the door.

"Stay close..."

Axel gazed to her with his emerald colored eyes and a smile to show comfort to the woman before entering the room that was filled with chairs of different heights. Each chair coordinated with each member's numbers and ranking, and out of all of them it was no surprise Xemnas' was the tallest of them all. Lifting his gaze up the very man was there sitting in his chair gazing down upon the two with the intimidating gaze he always delivered Axel.

The cloud ridden sky that filled the world with a darkness reminded him of The World That Never Was. It resembled the world strongly in its own way; neon lights flickering on and off, the wet concrete ground, and the sharp corners this city possessed. A form of familiarity and comfort for him was provided in a world such as this.

In the darkness of the square the woman asked for his name. Gaze drifting to her cautionary figure the gambler smiled as the Nobodies he possessed disappeared in their own string of a portal. Twisting and twirling a card in between his fingers he spoke softly as if he did not want to disturb the creature of darkness that roamed this town - this world.

"I'd rather we just skip the formalities."

The gaze in his light blue eyes held one of mysterious plans. Not of ill intent nor good, but of a plan unknown to even himself. The wonders and mysteries of the heart itself was an experiment never to be tampered with. A heart itself was something pure and delicate that held even the tiniest amount of light no matter how dark it was.

Maybe that was what Xigbar had meant on that day.

Fate had indeed been acting strange in his favor. Xigbar started to act more closed off from the other's ever since Roxas disappeared. It all damaged them in some way; how they lost those members in one year. Larxene he felt a bit sympathetic for the woman for she didn't take her steps one at a time. The others were just the poor pawns and fools subjected to the tortures of the game inside that Castle long forgotten.

"Though it's interesting, my dear. Those creatures would just pick off humans one by one. Yet a whole horde of them came after you. It's compelling - strange even. Why is that?"

He asked his question slipping the card from his fingers and back up his sleeve. Resting his hands behind his back the empty shell of what he really is began pacing looking at many sources of buildings and scrapes of the walls. He had no intention of harming the woman for he didn't see her as much of a threat.

There's always the possibility that he would be proven wrong.

Lacie's brow furrowed, watching as the blond twirled and flipped the single card around in his hand. He was deft at it, that was for sure. If Lacie had attempted it the card would have ended up on the floor more times than not. The guy had to have some skill with a deck.

The darkness around them was kept at bay by the neon lights. Even now people stayed inside, away from any potential danger from the dark creatures. People didn't come out much, even if those things could reach them inside, too. Security in what they knew, after all. It left for no witnesses to help Lacie if this man tried anything.

The white creatures disappeared, into portals made from the inky darkness itself. Her pink gaze darted to them and back to the man. She didn't want to have any of them sneak up on her but she did not want to give this guy the opportunity to catch her off guard, either. It was an unsettling situation.

"No formalities, huh? Strange way of saying 'hello,'" Lacie scoffed.

She kept her gaze squarely on him, even as he began to pace, tucking the card away with one smooth motion. Lacie began to move as he did, keeping that respectable distance. She had no weapons on her and any magics and spells she had in her repertoire were defensive, shielding - even those needed time to set up with her stencils.

"And if I have no answer for you?" she shot back, eyes narrowing. He didn't look intimidating, though he was a great deal taller than her. That didn't mean anything, however. He had those white creatures at his beck and call, after all.

Leon listened as she retold her story once again. The expressions on Sora's face, along with Donald and Goofy's, told him more than he needed to know. They were concerned, worried. That was how they always were. It didn't matter who the person was; if they were under threat of the Organization, they would risk life and limb for a stranger.

Her last words left an unsettling silence on the entire group. That was the only odd thing that came out of this story. It was obvious no one thought it a good idea that she should go off on her own.

"Gwash, Mimi, that might not be a good idea," Goofy attempted to reason.

Donald and Sora exchanged a quick look. While he didn't quite care to be the one to deliver bad news, it seemed unavoidable in this situation. She had means to protect herself but she didn't have the strength.

"Goofy's right," Donald agreed, motioning toward the younger woman.

"The Organization aren't push overs," Sora explained. "It might be best...if you stay here."

Leon studied Mimi's expression. Her shoulders had slumped and she looked crestfallen. He heaved a heavy sigh, reaching out and patting the young woman's head. He earned a look from the small group but chose to ignore it.

"She's been chosen for something, right?" he argued. "Otherwise that shield wouldn't have appeared out of no where. If she does a little bit of training, takes the time to learn how to defend herself, what's stopping her from doing whatever she wants?"

He glanced down at her, smirking slightly. It was all merely a suggestion in the end and he wouldn't force her into doing anything she didn't want to. Despite her meek appearance, she was determined. A spirit like that went a long way.

Sora rubbed the back of his head at that, exchanging a quick look with his friends. "Well...when you put it that way..." he replied. "I guess it can't do much harm. We all started out somewhere, right?"

"Gwash! That's right!" Goofy agreed cheerfully. "We'll figure somethin' out, don't you worry!"

Leon chuckled a little. "Looks like you've won them over." he noted lightly. "Though, they're not hard to sway."

Leon promptly ignored the 'Hey!' Donald had shouted at him, as if insulted, and chuckled again.

Zena brushed her hair lightly after he had reached out to ruffle it. She smiled slightly, glancing up at him. A frown marred her lips a moment later. There was something about him, something much deeper than she could understand.

She wondered if at some point he would tell her.

Silence fell onto them for sometime after that. She honestly started wondering what went on in the red heads mind. He'd drift in and out of bouts of explanations only to fall silent again. He claimed he had no heart and could not feel. So why did she catch expressions of distress or sadness on his features when he remained quiet?

Zena quashed the questions in her own mind. Sometimes, it was best not to pry even if she wanted to.

"It's a good thing I don't hand my trust out so easily than," she noted after he spoke up again.

She wasn't even sure why she had given it to him. Given the circumstances, she should have been protesting, not speaking with him as if they were friends. She shouldn't have felt so comfortable with him. So why was she?

She didn't get time to ponder it. Axel grabbed her hand, holding it tightly. He instructed her to keep close to him and she did as such. Pushing open the door, she glanced around the area, gnawing at her lip.
