Brief review of what I've played on it so far
Yes, this is a carbon cut out copy of Super Smash Bros. only the Playstation version of it. When I original found that out, I hand waved it off, having really only cared for SSB. Recently, I broke and bought Playstation All Stars to see what it was like.
Am I disappointed now? No, not so much.
The game is a face paced, good beat'em up arcade fighting game. While it copies a lot of SSB, it at least tries to do some things different.
There are less items to worry about other players or CPUs using in this game, drastically decreasing. The items they do provide however are highly effective in damage and ability, such as being able to freeze and slow down your opponent.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl introduced something called the 'Final Smash' and that is also something that came up here in Playstation All Stars. Depending on how many orbs your collect or how much you hit an opponent, you'll slow fill up a gauge. Each 'level' has a small special attack. The third is the strongest and normally makes it very easy to eliminate all players on screen.
Another thing that is different from SSB is that you don't have to ring out your opponent. Instead, it goes along the lines of a 'kill' feature. How many kills you get determines your placing.
The rest of it so far however matches a lot of what SSB has done throughout the years. The stages are more interactive than some of the SSB ones in terms of having to look out for attacks but other than that, it's nearly on par.
Is it a bad game so far? No, for twenty bucks for a new copy of Playstation All Stars, it's worth it. It's a fun beat'em up game and while it's a carbon cut out of Super Smash Bros., I can finally forgive that.
I'll continue updating as I play the game~.
