Sable had expected such a response from Lux. In fact, she would have been surprised if Lux hadn't said anything at all. For a brief moment, she'd been very quiet. Sable couldn't say why that was.

She chuckled a little in response, well aware Lux might want to take full advantage of that kind of training. Sable was a little at a loss for what she'd decide, however. In that sense, she felt a little at a loss with herself.

"At least you'll have something to occupy your time," she pointed out briefly.

"And you will not?" Artorias asked, glancing down at the other little human.

He watched as she shrugged her shoulders briefly. Maybe it was a matter of making up her mind. Artorias couldn't quite say. He didn't know either of them, after all.

"I'm not exactly privy to combat...Or being a hand maiden for other women," she answered.

Whether it held a high honor or not, she just wasn't the type. Awkward enough with most women as it was, she'd be out of place. Combat was more or less a no go as well. She'd always been a pacifist of sorts.

"Hmmm. You're both a strange sort," Artorias answered, "Regardless, I suppose we'll have to find you something."

He motioned for them to continue on. Ornstein would no doubt follow as well. The trip wouldn't take too long to afterward.

"Perhaps we will," he answered Ornstein finally, "There are other options to seek, after all, if they do not find the norm favorable."

Lux’s assumption that Sable expected her to be taking up some kind of warrior occupation was proved correct by Sable’s reply. Trying not to be bothered by that was difficult. Lux didn’t know what she’d be able to do with her scrawny body as it was.

Artorias speaking to Sable at least gave Lux time to try to shake off the thought. She’d figure something out in time, she was sure of it. ’I always do,’ she reassured herself. She was well aware that most of the time that only worked because she was winging it or got lucky.

“Sable, don’t lie. You just wanna throw magic around,” Lux pointed out jokingly.

Ornstein chuckled, shaking his head slightly. Though he wasn’t sure about these two at least they were not being hostile or cold. They had their moments but seeing as all of this must be so new to them this was not a surprise. Ornstein would keep an eye on their behavior as time passed.

“It can all be arranged after you’ve both eaten,” he promised.

This seemed to be enough for them. Perhaps it was not a high priority just yet, merely a curiosity.

”Sounds like a plan to me.” Her answer was a simple one, now it was just getting to where they’d be eating.

Lux was quick to bring up the fact that Sable might want to dabble in magic. That was all well and good. It was true enough, Sable often liked magic. She often joked about being a 'white mage' as well.

"That would depend on what's to offer," she replied, sparing a brief smile.

"There are several," Artorias pointed out, "Though, that can be dealt with at a later time."

Rounding the corner, they came into something like the kitchen. More or less, most of those who served here made the meals. Even some of the hand maidens helped.

"There should still be something you two might be able to pick at," he noted, "Best now than earlier. Seems you've drawn enough attention already."

Sable did her best not to mind those stares. What Artorias said was true however. There were many eyes on them. She waved them off instead in favor of looking for something to eat.

"It's fine," Sable replied, "It can't be helped at the given moment. Staring doesn't hurt anyone."

By all means, she just hoped it remained that way. Sable didn't linger on the thought, rummaging about for something to fill her stomach.

Ornstein listened to the pair, picking up little things about them as they spoke to one another. He wondered if they were aware of that or even cared. Perhaps they were merely making the best of a bad situation for them. They might not believe it but they were very fortunate to have arrived so near to Anor Londo.

“I am sure that there might be a willing few that would present some examples of such magical feats,” Ornstein pointed out.

They rounded the corner to one of the nearby rooms in this building. At least now the pair would know where they might find something to eat in the place they stayed at. It was another large room, accommodating his and Artorias’s size easily enough. There were some here already, dressed in armor or robes depending on their livelihood.

Lux glanced between those that were in this new room. It was clearly meant to host a large number of people though it was rather sparsely populated right now. ’Maybe that’s for the best,’ Lux reasoned when she noted the stares she and Sable were still getting. Those promised change of clothes would come in handy if they could get them sooner rather than later.

“Staring is one thing, but if they try to touch me I’m going for the eyes with the nearest sharp object,” Lux warned after Sable had spoken.

”I should hope there will be no need for such hostilities,” Ornstein replied. If he was wary now Lux couldn’t tell by the tone of his voice; instead of dwelling on it she focused on getting some food, picking carefully between the options presented for everyone.

What Ornstein said was something of a relief. By the way he made it sound, there were more than one or two simple magics. In that sense, maybe she could pick up something that interested her after all.

"Do you dabble in them as well?" she inquired briefly.

Who knew, if he did, he might be the exact aid that she would need. No doubt there would be a number of knights here with experience. Sable wondered what some of the swordsmanship was like.

As the pair started to rummage around the area, Artorias was a little surprised by the words that left Lux. They were so straight forward, so confident that he couldn't help but laugh a little.

He waved off Ornstein's worry on that at well and said, "She would not be able to reach them. She's far too small."

If Lux took offense to this, she didn't show it yet. He could see Sable resisting a chuckle, however. At least the two women seemed to be in good spirits. He'd rather see that than either of them being down.

"I don't know," Sable responded, "You don't know her like I do."

The light hearted joking was a little familiar to her. By all means, it made her feel light as well. Sable was glad that touch hadn't disappeared in her life just yet. Even with strangers, it helped keep her smiling.

Shortly after, she settled on something to eat. It wasn't much, a bit of bread some kind of soup from what she had to guess. It did it's job to fill her empty belly and that was all she really cared about.

Ornstein glanced down as Sable inquired as to any magical ability he had. He shook his head, gesturing briefly to the spear he had at his back. At a moment’s notice he’d be able to tug it free and rush into combat if the alarm rang out. For the time being things were peaceful.

“Not particularly, no.” His weapon was able to host the lightning on its own after many modifications with the blacksmith. Now it was quite the formidable weapon. “There is more than one way to accomplish a great many thing in this world.”

Lux couldn’t make much sense out of Ornstein’s answer to Sable. Maybe it was just cryptic because she knew so little about how things worked around here. For the time being she didn’t think much about it past her initial curiosity.

Artorias didn’t seem to take Lux’s comment about anyone approaching and trying to touch her seriously. Out of the two of them Ornstein seemed to take her more seriously. All the same Sable joined in on the joking, even while Artorias commented on Lux’s small size again.

Huffing, Lux refrained from tossing a look in Artorias’s direction. A comment like that was something she’d always heard, that or more direct comments about her scrawny body. It left her a little annoyed when it was pointed out so often.

“I can be resourceful if I wanna be,” she warned.

”I see,” Ornstein muttered, watching as the women took to finding food for themselves. He wouldn’t so easily brush away such comments though he wouldn’t actively be hostile about it either. Perhaps it was merely Lux’s way of dealing with things or perhaps she might really try something. He would need to wait and see.

For the time being he and Artorias waited off to the side for the two to finish eating. Sable did not eat much though they watched as Lux made a second trip in that time, leaving Sable to wait for her.

Sable blinked up at Ornstein, unsure of his answer. In some manner, it was a little cryptic. Sable couldn't say why. Did it have to do something with that large spear that he pointed out?

She didn't question it for the moment. In time, maybe she'd learn. For the moment, Ornstein seemed content on leaving all of that lay.

Artorias watched Lux's expression, chuckling a little at her expression. She looked so at odds with the comment. It was a little funny. Her response was a quick one, leaving him chuckling again.

"Perhaps a step ladder then?" he suggested in a bit of a teasing manner.

"Now that's being a little mean," Sable commented lightly in return.

Their height really was abnormal however. She wondered if it had to do with all this demi-god nonsense. That was the best thing that she could latch onto for now. She didn't have many answers, after all.

When Sable had finished eating, Lux had already started on seconds. This was something of a normal occurrence. If either of them found this odd, they didn't say.

"Where are we going after this?" Sable asked, if only to get a little conversation started.

Lux hadn’t expected the teasing she received from Artorias. She pulled a face, sticking her tongue out briefly in answer before dropping the topic entirely. Sable managed to fit in one last response to it before it was forgotten about in favor for food.

Though the food was rather simple and some of it Lux couldn’t identify to save her life she still went back for another helping. Ornstein and Artorias remained nearby during this, waiting as she ate. Sable had finished already, as usual. In the quiet that followed there must have been something on her mind as she was the one who broke that quiet.

”It all depends on what you wish to see first,” Ornstein told her.

Sable seemed interested in magical endeavors though what Lux might gravitate towards if anything was left a mystery. Perhaps she might speak up as the day went on or maybe she’d remain silent on the matter. If they had to Ornstein and Artorias could very well guide each through the day if they took to separate interests.

There was a brief lull before either woman responded to his answer. Lux eventually turned to blink up at him, chewing in a manner that might have been thoughtful. Once she’d finished that she spoke:
“And if we don’t know?”

While she waited on an answer Lux was piling her dishes atop each other neatly, brushing away crumbs from her chin afterwards. It seemed like they’d be able to get a proper start on the day now.

Artorias chuckled at the weak retort, if he could even call that one. Regardless, it was something of a strange act. He couldn't begin to make sense of it. More or less, he merely waved it off, considering it just as odd as these women.

Time was beginning to pass slowly for him. Ordinarily he'd be wandering or doing some training. It passed the time. So rare did anything actually crop up within Anor Londo.

A question did eventually crop up as to where they would go. Ornstein answered for him. It was a simple one though, seemed to level them slightly satisfied. Only when Lux spoke up did Artorias thing otherwise.

"Ah, then we might simply wander," he answered, "There is much to see in Anor Londo. Perhaps taking a bit at a time might be best. No doubt, it could be overwhelming."

Sable could agree with Artorias's statement a little. All of this was overwhelming. The feeling was a little less so now however. She was well aware it could return.

"I'd like to see some of these magics," she pointed out, "But if you're not sure, Lux, we can just take it one step at a time."

That seemed like it would be in their best interest. In all honesty, the magics were the only thing Sable really latched onto now. She wasn't sure what Lux might want to see.

"Don't you want to see some swords play?" she suggested. That seemed like something Lux would be very interested in.

It was Artorias who answered next. Though wandering might not be as helpful it was at least a game plan. Maybe both ‘demi-gods’—Lux still wasn’t sure how truthful that was—had discussed things beforehand or maybe it was just common sense to them.

Lux pushed her stacked dishes away from herself, closer to the edge of the table. She wasn’t sure what to do with them; it wasn’t like this was a cafeteria in the sense that she and Sable were used to. For all Lux knew someone could just come by and pick dirtied dishes up to clean later. Looking around, there didn’t seem to be any designated place for them as it was.

It wasn’t until Sable suggested she take a look at swordsmanship did Lux snap out of her thoughts. She blinked at Sable, feeling the eyes of Artorias and Ornstein on her. They were probably waiting to know where they’d be going today.

Finally, Lux shrugged. “I wanna do it all.”

Behind her she heard the two demi-gods chuckle. It wasn’t hard to imagine them both shaking their heads as well.
“A strange little human, most only wish for one or two things to excel at.”

Honestly, Ornstein wasn’t sure what to make of this answer. If Sable wished to dabble in magics that was easy to adhere to but one who wanted to ‘do it all’? That might be a bit harder and more time-consuming for the day. Ornstein wondered how that endeavor might turn out however.

“Though perhaps it will leave you busy enough throughout the day,” Ornstein offered.

Artorias could only wait patiently for the girls to make their decisions. It was hard to say what Lux might want. He didn't know her and from the looks of it, she was still trying to decide.

When she did finally decide on something, her words were so blunt it caught the both of them off guard for a moment. A chuckle finally escaped him followed by Ornstein.

"Well, that's quite the feat to accomplish," Artorias pointed out, "I hope you're ready and willing for several tasks if you really do want to 'do everything'."

It was odd to hear such things after all. Most would settle on a couple. After all, there was no point in getting overwhelmed. Some tasks were more dangerous than others too.

Sable blinked at the blunt reply. While it wasn't uncommon for Lux, it still surprised Sable. Wasn't it getting a little in over her head?

"Well...I mean as long as you don't take too much all at once," she replied, "I'd rather not see you get overwhelmed..."

They were two very different people, she was well aware. Lux might be able to take on these challenges without a problem. Sable herself knew that she might struggle to find a nitch and real happiness with what should would come to try.

"Though I suppose that's the most we can ask for in that vain. Something to pass the time would be nice," she added.

At least they were all in agreement on that matter. Sable and Lux were used to different things. At least this way, they could discover something new and try to live in this strange place instead.

The shock of Lux’s blunt answer had worn off quickly enough though her friend was doing what she could to make sure it was what she really wanted. Artorias was already pointing out how large a feat that was to boot. Nothing really seemed to deter the woman’s resolve. Perhaps that was a sign of what they could expect in the coming days.

“It seems you’re already looking at quite the busy schedule then,” Ornstein pointed out.

He watched as Lux shrugged and stood, stretching while she presumably waited for Sable. If both were finished eating then there was little time to waste. At the very least plans could be made and seen to for the day.

”Tch! Just let me worry about me,” Lux finally stated.

She should’ve known that Sable at least would pipe up about that answer of hers but it was the only one she had to say. Trying to explain why she wouldn’t delve into swordsmanship because of her insecurities about her body was harder than doing a little bit of everything each day. Besides, it wasn’t like she made those things known anyways, even to those that knew her well.

“So, what’s the plan then? Sable wants magic and I’m more for weaponry,” Lux pointed out. It had always been like that; at least in video games they’d played… Having it all be so real might change things though how Lux couldn’t be sure yet.

For a second Ornstein seemed to think it over. Lux waited, hands on her hips. Finally, he spoke up, glancing between them and his partner.

“All things considered, it might be easier to split up to accommodate your wants.” Ornstein paused for a second. “Unless that seems too much for either of you.”

For all he knew they might wish to stick together for the time being.

Lux glanced towards Sable, all but seeing the gears turning in her head. Eventually Lux shook her head, turning back to the pair of supposed demi-gods. They needed to get a start on things, to try and make some kind of living her in Anor Londo. Even just getting a bit of status here might help if it meant there was no way home for either of them.

“I don’t mind splitting up.” She turned to Sable then, a short shake of her head following this. “Whatever you wanna do though.”

Artorias was a little surprised that Lux was tackling all of this with such confidence. Despite the light picks and prods, she seemed entirely serious about doing this.

"I can not help but agree," he spoke after Ornstein, "At least you will be preoccupied."

Sable glanced down at Lux. She wasn't so surprised by the response. Lux liked to remind Sable that all of the worlds problems were not on Sable's shoulders. That was something that she often needed to take into account more often.

"Easier said then done," she replied, sparing a small smile,  "You're the reckless one."

Truth be told, Lux did know her limits. Sable just hoped that if Lux felt as if she was overwhelming herself, she'd stop. They were both bull headed however.

It was Lux who spoke first, asking what the plans were. When answers came, Sable hummed in response. The thought of splitting up was a little jostling. Ornstein and Artorias were still very much strangers. She knew she had to get to know them at one point or another however.

"I'm alright with that," she finally answered when Lux asked for her opinion. Sable pushed herself up, shuffling her weight a little.

"If that's decided, then we should get a start on the day," Artorias finally added, "Perhaps I can lead Lux about. If she truly is taking up the task of 'doing everything', I can show her some of the easier areas."

Lux would have to start out at some manner. Getting right into it would be a foolish idea. She needed to start slow even if it left her impatient.

Ornstein had waited patiently for the two to decide on their plans. It would be much easier to split up, if he was honest, but if the pair felt more comfortable together then he would not voice any complaints. Besides, it seemed as if Lux agreed, handing over the decision to Sable. Moments later it was decided.

“I suppose that leaves me to guide you about Anor Londo,” Ornstein pointed out, gesturing for Sable to follow him. Artorias had already taken Lux under his wing, so to speak, and rather quickly at that. “We can take things slow if you prefer.”

He had to make the conscious effort to keep his pace slow, his strides shorter than normal, for Sable to be able to keep up easily enough. At the very least the buildings in Anor Londo were large and accommodate his and the other knights’s size. There was very little to worry about within the city itself about simple things.

“Perhaps I should ask what sort of magic you are expecting to see,” he pointed out.

It was clear that she didn’t know about any sort of magic but expectations could help narrow down what she might cotton onto. Ornstein would do his best to narrow down what she might like. Still, between sorcery, miracles and pyromancy it could be a toss up. There was no room for dark magic like hexes within the city and Ornstein would do his best to keep it that way.

Outside the sun shone through the clouds, casting the city in its light. It all looked beautiful even if it was a sight that Ornstein was quite used to. That alone made him want to protect this place all the more.

----[x]----

Lux was a little surprised to hear Sable agree to split up. Perhaps she was trying to venture away and build her confidence about this place and its people. If that was the case then Lux couldn’t blame her, it seemed like they’d be here for a long while, if there was even a way to go back home.

Lux’s attention diverted when Artorias spoke up, mentioning leading her to a place she could start the day at. Stomach knotting a little in anxiousness, and maybe a little it of eagerness too, Lux followed after. Though he might be slowing his pace for her Lux still had to walk quickly to keep up.

“So, what does a giant like you consider easy?” Lux wondered eventually, eyeing the great sword he had strapped to his back. There was no way she’d be able to do something like that with her scrawny arms and wrists.

As she waited for an answer, Lux glanced around at the buildings they passed once outside. Taking it all in yet again would help her to grow more familiar with this place at least. She couldn’t very well rely on Artorias and Ornstein forever here, especially since everyone seemed to know about her.

The glances and stares she got were more bearable when she had something else to focus on. Still, if this kept up while she was trying to take to training Lux couldn’t be sure she’d do well. It was already something she was concerned about but having such watchful eyes on her would only make it worse.

Lux had taken to Artorias's side for the time being. She watched their backs for a moment before she followed after Ornstein. His strides were long but he accommodated. She found herself relieved by the act.

She would have been lying to herself if she wasn't a little nervous. Sable knew so little of this place. The same was with Lux but between them, she was far more confident.

Her thoughts were broken when he asked about taking things slowly. In that, she was very appreciative. With a bad bout of anxiety and stubbornness to take on too many tasks to boot, this would be best.

"I would appreciate that if we could," she answered him, if a little more softly than she had been when Lux was with her.

A few moments after, he asked what kind of magics she'd want to dabble in. Sable didn't even know what kinds there were. Both he and Artorias had mentioned something like 'miracles' but if there were others, she was unaware of them.

"Uh...well," she started after a moment, "What others are there?"

If anything, that would give her a place to start. If there was something she was more interested in, she'd latch onto it.

----[x]----

When things had been hashed out and settled, Artorias motioned for Lux to follow him. She did so, seeming rather eager to get a move on. If her words were true, Artorias was a little eager to see what would come of this young woman.

As they walked, she finally spoke up again. The question was rather simple. Despite that fact, a chuckle escaped him. Really, most things by standard were simple for him.

"Most things are quite simple for me," he explained, "Though I have not dabbled in such things as magics or sorcery."

He had little interest in it. Artorias dabbled in a few spells that would help protect his companions if need be. Other than that, he stuck to wielding his blade.

As they left the current building, he was all too aware of the eyes on them. Mostly, he waved them off for the time being. There was no sense in getting up in a fuss about it. Lux seemed more or less inclined to ignore the gazes at the moment.

"Have you pinpointed what you might want to toy with first, hmm?" he inquired after a moment, "You're so small. You leave me curious of what you might take up."

If she was annoyed by him pointing out her height or her scrawniness, she didn't say anything about it. He merely glanced down at her, waiting on what she might say in reply.

She didn’t answer right away though when she did Sable’s words were softer than they had been previously. It was clear she was out of her element now, away from her friend. Perhaps she’d be meeker or more frightened if she hadn’t arrived her without her friend. ’Small blessings,’ Ornstein mused briefly.

It was only when he asked Sable what sorts of things she expected did a topic stretch longer than a sentence or two. Still, Ornstein didn’t get much of an answer from Sable. There was little to decide upon if he had little idea of what Sable was expecting and wanted.

He shook his head. If she wasn’t going to elaborate on what she expected it would seem that Ornstein had to explain from scratch. “There are only three divisions and each offer a plethora of offensive and defensive capabilities. It all depends on where one’s faith or interests lie.”

That was partly a lie. He hadn’t counted hexes in that lineup, though for good reason. Those spells were dark, things to be avoided and cautioned against. If it kept Sable away from hexes than Ornstein would not mention them yet. In time, when she knew more about this land and their magic he’d make sure she was informed.

Ornstein gave Sable time to take in this information. Ahead of them Artorias had already disappeared outside with Lux. All the same Ornstein did not rush them out of the building.

“If one is interested there are miracles that can be performed or perhaps sorcery might draw you in,” Ornstein continued after a minute or so had passed. “Or perhaps fire is what you fancy.”

----[x]----

Artorias’s answer had been a simple one. It at least gave her some insight into him as a person though not much, any number of reasons could exist for why he didn’t take to any kind of magic after all. Still, it was something and Lux wasn’t going to scoff at that.

The topic was dropped almost as quickly as it had come up. It wasn’t like Lux had anything to say to that at least. Maybe if she knew him better she might have but it wasn’t easy to hold a conversation with someone who claimed he was a demi-god. Religious or not, it would be off-putting to anyone.

Once outside Lux had to admit that the clouds that hovered over the sky seemed like they didn’t move very quickly. Maybe they didn’t, or maybe cloud cover like this just always overran this place. It was hard to tell when it was only the second day that she’d seen the weather around here. Hell, even the sun didn’t seem to have moved from its place in the sky…

Her thoughts were broken by Artorias’s question. Lux blinked up at him, craning her neck a bit to do so. Walking right at his side like this had disadvantages, it seemed. Lux tried not to get a little annoyed by that fact.

“Nope,” she answered simply and quickly. She had no clue what kind of weapons could be found in this place aside from the large sword and spear Artorias and Ornstein wielded. Glancing around she could spot a few weapons hanging from belts or strapped to someone’s back but it gave her little inkling into their style of combat or what kind of skills were essentially learned with choosing them.

Despite being apart from Sable now Lux kept her stride confident, attempting to ignore the looks. Soon enough she’d have some clothes that would let her blend in a little better. If she was going to be stared at, after all, Lux wanted it to be because she stood out in a positive way, not because she was weird to everyone.

Sable was quiet as he explained the few magics she could dabble in. There weren't many of them. She half way expected to be a wider variety in a world like this. Maybe she underestimated it all a little bit.

She took it into considerate for a long few beats. When he mentioned something about fire, she lifted her head again. Something like that caught her attention right away.

"That's an option?" she inquired, a little more bump in her tone.

Ever since she figured out how to make a lighter work as a kid, she had a fascination with fire. The thought of wielding fire left her a little giddy. If she could learn, she'd take the opportunity.

"I'd like to dabble in something like that if I'm able to," she pressed a little.

Briefly, she wondered what kind of expression he wore. Maybe it was something of amusement? Sable couldn't really tell until he spoke up again. She must have looked a little akin to an excited puppy, after all.

----[x]----

Quiet hung over the pair of them for some time. Artorias was rather curious of the little human though didn't know where he should start. He had seen and heard of some in the past. Very few of them had seemed all that wise or kind.

When she answered about having an idea of what she wanted to learn, his gaze fell back onto her. The way she was so blunt was rather amusing, as if she'd already expected him to ask.

"Blunt now, are we?" he responded, "Well, I suppose we could do a little digging, perhaps find something you are interested in."

There were a number of things she could dabble in. She was  small human though. He wondered if she could even handle something like a sword. Perhaps he was underestimating her however.

"You are such a little thing though. Perhaps we should start out small," he mused a moment later.

If she was affronted by the playful assumption, she didn't do much about it. Then again, something told him his own height could be a bit of an intimidation factor. She might not want to step on his toes if that was the case.

Ornstein had watched Sable’s for a reaction as he listed off the three primary sources of magic. When neither miracle nor sorcery had caused so much as a bat of an eye Ornstein had mentioned pyromancy. All at once, her demeanor seemed to change in an instant.

Her whole face had lit up, a new energy to her altogether. Ornstein was a little surprised at this reaction; coming from some place that had no magic, Ornstein would have expected her to see them each first, to make an informed decision or to outright deny the existence of it altogether. Instead she seemed eager at the mention of learning to ‘play’ with fire.

“There is,” he responded with a nod. “Though there are none that I know of here in Anor Londo that might practice that particular branch.”

She seemed to deflate at that and Ornstein took a moment to think things over. Though pyromancy most reliably stemmed from the swamps there would be pyromancers traveling to and fro. Perhaps Sable’s desire could be fulfilled one way or another.

“There might be a scroll or two that can be bought from someone,” Ornstein mused aloud. “Though it might take a long while to seek any out.”

He mentioned that last bit only for Sable’s benefit. He did not want to raise her hopes up too much, assuming no scrolls had come this far out. That wasn’t even taking into account that any who might have any scrolls might be unwilling to part with them.

----[x]----

The silence that hung between them seemed thick, almost suffocating. Lux wasn’t sure what she should say, leaving her unable to really start much of a conversation. It seemed Artorias was curious, however, breaking the quiet by asking about any ideas she might have. Barely a moment had passed before Lux had answered that.

She bobbed her head in agreement to Artorias’s assessment. Being subtle often took far too much work, at least in her opinion. Before she could say anything however Artorias had carried on, mentioning her scrawny stature. Lux glanced down at herself, placing a hand over her stomach briefly, as if to assess her own body for the first time in her life.

“I think I’ll manage,” Lux said finally. “Small packages and all that.”

Discretely, Lux glanced towards Artorias. It was hard feat to try to achieve, nearly twice her height as he was. She was sure that he might have noticed the tilt of her head she had to use merely to glance at him from the corner of her eye. Not that it did her any good, his face hidden away by his armor. The metal glinted in the rays of the sun it managed to catch.

For a moment or two Lux debated on saying something more. Just walking in silence like this was a little awkward. Though she walked with her head held high, taking in the sights as they went, it wasn’t like she felt fully confident. For all she knew any weapons she might try to take up would be far too large and heavy for her as it was. Or maybe she’d make a fool of herself no matter what.

“Other than fighting off dragons, what does a knight do all day?” she wondered finally.

Sable couldn't help the excitement she'd felt upon hearing that learning to control fire was something of an option. When he explained that it wasn't one within this city however, she deflated a little. Things like this sounded like they were difficult to track down.

"A place this big, you guys must have an archive or something?" she suggested a moment after.

Without the technology of her time, information would be in books. From stories she read, spells and the like were often stored away as well. Of course, those were merely stories. For all she knew, things could be very different here.

"You sure that'll be alright?" she asked then. Investing money for something like this, just for her, seemed like a lot. She tried not to let it nag at her however.

"Maybe I should see how the others work?" she mused out loud.

Now that she knew that these things existed, it might have been best to see what another could do with them.

Still, a particular part of her seemed drawn to the idea of wielding fire as a weapon. It was an odd thing but she wrote it off as just a fascination, like she always had.

----[x]----

On occasion, he glanced down at her. While she looked confident, there was a tension in her shoulders. She was straining herself a little bit, perhaps unnerved or out of her element. Why wouldn't she be? By the way both of these humans talked, all of this was very foreign to them.

When she did speak, there wasn't the air of confidence in her voice as there was before. The statement was odd. Artorias couldn't recall hearing such an odd phrase.

"It is a good thing to be so small?" he inquired, sparing her a quick glance.

Artorias couldn't quite imagine life at her height. There was a lack of intimidation factor to her much less build. Then again, maybe he was underestimating her a little. Humans were infamous enough. For all he knew, she could have some surprises up her sleeves.

Having been noticed lapsing into though, Lux asked another question. It was a simple one, perhaps rather curious of his own work here.

"I am called upon for many things," he explained to her, "Ornstein more or less commands us, however I am more often given missions and am on the field. Most tasks are minimal at best. These times are peaceful ones."

He glanced down at her again. She seemed to be considering the information that he'd parted with. A particular expression overtook her face, a thoughtful one.

Artorias reached out, ruffling her hair a little. His hand nearly engulfed her whole head. Regardless, he brushed this off and said, "Do not look so worried. I am never gone for long."

Ornstein watched the expressions that flitted over Sable’s face. It eventually settled on a thoughtful one, silence settled between them only briefly. Before Ornstein could think to break it Sable was asking about archives, perhaps already intending to research and find these pryomancies on her own.

Ornstein shook his head. “There are archives here though they will do you little good. Many pyromanices originate from the swamps or from origins unknown,” he informed her. “One might be lucky to find some scattered about the world, forgotten and lain with corpses, or from a pyromancer himself.”

Even when Ornstein offered to have someone search for some basic pryomancy scrolls for her Ornstein could still detect a look of worry about her. She gnawed on her lip briefly before she wondered about it, allowing Ornstein a chance to see where her worries lie on the matter. Yet again he shook his head and reached down to carefully pat her back reassuringly.

“Are you sure?” he wondered. “If pyromancy is what you fancy it will be simple to send a scout or two out in search of such things.”

Though he said this Sable seemed resigned to the idea of trying something else. Perhaps after she did that she might make a more informed choice, at least as best that she could. Only sorcery and miracles could be practice easily here, miracles more easily found thanks to Princess Gwynevere’s handmaidens.

“You need only to make a decision and we will see what can be done.”

----[x]----

Lux blinked, glancing up at Artorias to see he’d taken to gazing down at her as they walked. There was confusion in his voice, something that was easier to hear rather than to see, what with all of his armor obscuring his face for the moment. Lux wondered why he did that; maybe it had something to do with the fact that he took to fighting off dragons on occasion.

She resisted tugging at her hair in worry. Was that phrase not a common one here, or even one at all? “I don’t see why it wouldn’t be,” she said instead.

There was a brief stretch of silence leaving both to their thoughts. Lux briefly wondered what Artorias was thinking, wondering if she’d left a good impression or not. Shallow as it may be appearances as well as first impressions were both powerful things. Lux didn’t want to start what life—however brief or long it might be—here in Anor Londo with a horrid reputation to her name.

Eventually she was the one to break the silence, asking about Artorias’s duties. She listened attentively, glancing up at him as he answered. She’d have kept her eyes on him if they weren’t walking and she was worried about tripping over something that might be in her way. What duties he did have left her thoughtful, still no closer to understanding him as a person much less a deity of sorts.

Whatever impression her silence left on Artorias it did not take long for him to do something more. A surprised sound escaped Lux as he took to ruffling her hair, leaving her glad that she’d tied it back in a loose braid rather than the usual pigtails. His whole hand nearly took up her entire head and though it was a brief moment, Lux still reached up to run her hand through her hair a bit, as if to settle it back into its proper place. It was easier to ignore her warm cheeks while she did that.

“That’s quite an assumption!” she huffed defensively.

The options were limited here it seemed. She was a little disappointed to hear that. If they had such vast archives, she figured something would be tucked away. Maybe she would explore them in time.

She didn't want to cause too much trouble but at the same time, it would have been nice to practice something she liked as well. In the past, she'd denied a lot from herself just to make sure others were comfortable.

The pat on her back jostled her from her thoughts. It was a gentle thing despite his size. His hand was rather large on her back, an odd sensation compared to most.

"I'd like to try, if it's possible," she finally decided, lifting her head a little again, "I just don't want to cause too much trouble."

She hoped that wouldn't be the case for people who would be sent out to scout. Regardless, Ornstein seemed patient with her decision and she appreciated that. Despite the intimidation of his figure and height alone, he seemed like a soft spoken man.

"I'd still like the chance to see the other options though, just in case," she added a moment later, "if that's alright."

----[x]----

It was an odd phrase though Artorias didn't put too much stock into it. She was a tiny thing. Maybe to other humans, being small meant something more. He couldn't quite say he'd encountered too many humans in the past.

"Less intimidation," he answered instead, a little lightness to his tone, "So small, someone might just believe you to be cute."

It was a simple explanation to her question. After that, he'd taken his time to tell her what he did. She was thoughtful about it for the time. Only when he reached out and ruffled her hair did a startled sound come out of her.

A short chuckle left him. She looked a tad embarrassed by his actions. In some sense, it fit the short human. A pout that adorned her face seemed to fit her height all together.

"Ah, you would not miss me than?" he inquired, a bit of a teasing tone to his voice, "A shame. Here I was rather curious of you."

In all sense, he still was. How and why she had been dragged here still rung clear in his head. Wanting to know where she was from, why she was so different were among others.

Ornstein waved a dismissive hand in answer to Sable’s worries. She had little reason for such things, especially so if what she wished for would help keep her safer in the long run. Though pyromancy wasn’t popular much less looked upon favorably by many it was something that could be utilized in combat easily. From what Ornstein heard many pyromancies were simple anyways, perfect for beginners by the sounds of it.

“Tracking some down might take time but that is all,” Ornstein promised her. Besides, the simpler ones would be cheaper, if someone was peddling them. It would merely be getting her a flame of her own if she wished to pursue it. “Until then you may dabble in sorceries or miracles for something to do, if it pleases you.”

A second or so passed before Sable agreed to at least seeing the other two options performed a time or two. With that in mind Ornstein focused on finding one of the handmaidens of Princess Gwynevere. There were many of them but they each had duties of their own, making it hard to predict where they’d be first for the day.

“Miracle users are easier to find about Anor Londo. Perhaps one might have some time to spare to showcase what can be done with them,” Ornstein offered. It would at least pass the time for her in the coming days while they worked to track down a pyromancy or two for her to toy with. Ornstein just hoped that if that came to fruition she would not get burned too badly in the process.

For the moment they at least had plans and it would give Sable something to look forward to. Perhaps that was what she needed right now anyways. Ornstein at least liked to think so, being lost here and without a purpose or goal seemed like a lonely thing to him.

----[x]----

It did not take Artorias long to answer her question, though she hadn’t really been out for an answer. Though his voice was light Lux couldn’t help but to scoff a little. At the very least it didn’t sound like hew as mocking or insulting her. Maybe he really couldn’t imagine life at the size of a normal human being. It only made Lux a little more awkward, wondering if he really was some kind of great being or not.

She didn’t bother to respond to that due to that awkwardness that flooded through her. It had only helped to further that silence before she inevitable broke it to ask about Artorias. Maybe she could figure things out through his answers. It was always worth a try at least.

Artorias did not seem bothered by Lux’s response or the way that she was fussing with her hair. Instead it sounded like he might be teasing her a little when he prodded her further. In fact, he acted like they might already be friends, a sentiment that was a little strange to Lux. Maybe that was due to the fact that she was ‘born a hermit’ as her dad had sometimes said.

“C-Curious?” she echoed, deliberately not answering his question. It sounded like he’d only asked it to get a rise out of her, or maybe just to be playful. “I suppose that’s natural…”

Coming from what appeared to be another place and perhaps even time itself would warrant it. Lux couldn’t say why any curiosity would diminish but mostly he might have just been teasing her with it.

Ornstein seemed to wave her worries off. She would try not to let these things bother her either. Things were different here. He was offering to help her learn in some manner. She mind as well take it.

"That's fine," she answered, "I'm patient enough. I can wait as long as it takes."

In that, she spoke the truth. By the time a teacher might have been brought forward, she could probably find something else to occupy her time. Maybe if a little healing was an option, she'd take that up just in case of injury.

She nodded in response to his explanation. These kinds of things seemed plentiful here. If anything, that was something to distract her. She didn't want to be overwhelmed by her own thoughts.

"I'd like to see a little bit of that, if they can spare the time. If not, I can always try another day," she replied.

Instead of worrying too much on that, she focused a little more on him. Tall as he was, she had to crane her neck just to look up at him. Sunlight glinted off his gold armor, much like the city itself.

"So aside from looking after the occasional...person, what exactly do you do here?" she inquired, if only a little curious.

----[x]----

She didn't respond to his explanation. Artorias thought little of it. Humans were an odd sort. If she was offended at all, perhaps she would mention it in time. For all he knew, she simply felt no reason to comment.

A quick glance told him otherwise. Awkwardness had overtaken her again. He resisted a chuckle at that. There was no reason to make her feel worse. Lux was very much out of her element here, after all.

Eventually she did speak again. It was stumbled a little bit as she tried to regain her composure. After a moment, she did agree some way.

"Indeed," he answered her, "Though, I would guess it is a shared feeling. The world seems to be a very different place for you."

If she had anymore questions, she didn't ask them right away. Artorias would do his best to answer in time. Depending on what she asked, that was. Some things were harder to explain than others were.

"Ah, I suppose I should be directing you someplace though..." he finally brought up, "Forgive me. Escorting is not normally my duty."

It was a relief on Ornstein’s shoulders when Sable did not argue further. It would only be mildly troublesome to locate a pyromancer or at least a scroll of theirs. Until then she would at least have something to dabble in to spend her days. It was the best situation they could make for the time being.

Though she could not hope to see it, obscured by the helm he wore, Ornstein smiled and spared a nod in her direction. “I am sure one of them has a little time to spare, at the very least,” he assured her.

He knew where he could find a handmaiden or two around Anor Londo. They had many tasks given to them by the Princess, after all. It would merely be finding one and asking for their assistance for a short time. Perhaps Sable might even be able to become more acquainted with those around Anor Londo and be less of a stranger. He hoped any odd looks she received were not too off-putting but they all had reason to be wary of humans.

It seemed that Sable was more curious than she initially let on. Soon enough she was asking about himself and his duties rather than more about miracles or sorcery or pyromancy. For a moment Ornstein cocked his head to one side, peering down at her. She seemed honestly curious, and if that was the case then he would indulge her as best he could.

“I am tasked with guarding the cathedral most of my days. Every so often a drake needs taken out for the safety of those here and around Anor Londo. Other than that these times of peace are just that, peaceful,” he told her.

If Artorias found her embarrassment amusing he did not do anything visibly about it. Lux found herself thankful for that. Too often she’d been teased by boys or given odd looks when she lapsed into a softer personality of any sort. It had left her working to keep appearances up as best that she could, just to avoid the trouble.

She didn’t want to waste hope on the idea that things might be different here and she could be a little more honest with how she was to everyone.

Lux nodded to Artorias’s statement. He had no idea of really knowing just how true that was, but still… “Almost ridiculously so,” she admitted truthfully.

That line of thinking was put to rest as Artorias admitted that he’d grown rather distracted in what they’d been intending on doing. Lux shook her head though whether she did this in disbelief or to shake away her thoughts was unclear. Perhaps it was even a little of both.

“It’s fine,” she answered simply. “It’s not like I’m on a tight schedule or anything.”

Though she said that Lux couldn’t say that the same could be said for Artorias. Perhaps he had other duties to tend to today. For the most part he didn’t seem rushed, maybe that was a good thing. Lux wasn’t the type who was fond of being rushed around.

Sable was a little relieved that she'd at least have something to occupy her time. In truth, she wasn't much of a fighter as it was. Thrust into a world where it was best to know a thing or two, she felt a little lost. One top of being overwhelmed, it would make for some stressful times.

For a brief moment, he glanced down at her. She couldn't see the expression behind his helm. That thing held such an intimidation factor to it. Sable figured that was probably the point.

It was a relief to know that someone might be able to put up with her request. At least that would give her something to do to pass the time. She couldn't imagine how slowly things would pass here if she had nothing.

Eventually he answered her question, explaining his own tasks in this place. He seemed to be an important person if he was tasked with guarding something important.

"I see," she replied, "So is there something important in the cathedral than? Seems like an odd place to be on point."

Despite this question, what he said seemed true enough. It was somehow very peaceful here, quiet. A part from a few whispers or idle chatter, everyone seemed happy.

----[x]----

She calmed a little, given the moment to. Artorias couldn't quite know her habits or personality. This might have been normal for her. Regardless, he'd make a note to keep an eye on her reactions as time went on.

What she had to say next didn't quite surprise him. Both women looked far too strange for their own good. It was easy to assume that this place would be wildly different to the both of them.

"Well, I would hope not all of it is bad," he answered her, motioning toward her as he did so, "Perhaps there may be a thing or two that will satisfy your own curiosities."

A little optimism might help improve her own mood. Artorias couldn't say that it helped or not. He was merely throwing out suggestions as he went, well aware that they might not do much good at all.

Her words were a little morose. Maybe in her own world, she had plenty to do. Being pulled into this one, without a purpose or even a hobby to fall back on, he could imagine that would be a little boring.

"Ah, don't sound so sad," he said instead, hoping to lighten her mood, "You may find something favorable here yet. There's plenty to learn and perhaps if you poke around the archives, you'll find more."

That was when someone was with her. She wouldn't be able to head up to those archives on her own.
