| A few days had passed since they’d first arrived in America, heading towards Patch Village. Hao seemed to know where to go though only a few followed him, others had been sent out on other tasks or were seeking the village on their own. Was it some kind of test for them? Ayasha figured it must be, that was the whole point of the trip anyways.
For the time being focus seemed to be on getting to Patch Village, a location which—unsurprisingly—Hao seemed to know of. Honestly, this possibility did not surprise her what did surprise Ayasha was his insistence that she, and by extension Kalila, remain near him as they traveled. ’So weird.’
She shook those thoughts away for the time being. It wasn’t going to do her any good to dwell on them when it was a nice day out. At least it was warm, she reasoned. Ayasha had never been one for cold weather, far too scrawny for it. Muna and Tawa were mercifully quiet today, resting in their memorial tablets Ayasha kept on hand for them. It wouldn’t be long before the two were bickering however, it never was.
Still, it’d be nice to have a lunch break or something soon. It wasn’t like she could take her mind off of it by drawing as they walked after all. She’d just end up tripping over something and ruining any sketches. So instead she took to digging into her bag for a book she’d been reading recently, some horror-thriller title that wasn’t too bad. It’d pass time at least.
----[x]---- The days that passed were rather uneventful, their direction clear each day. They would not stop until they reach Patch Village in a timely manner, leaving plenty of time for training, recon and rest—or perhaps Master Hao had something planned that had yet to be shared. It was entirely possible, after all.
For the time being Mohammad did not worry for such things. Merely getting to Patch Villag was their priority right now despite their small group at the moment. Many had spread out either under Hao’s orders or by their own desire.
A ways ahead of him was Master Hao, Opacho and Ayasha trailing after followed by Kalila and Mohammad himself. Such an odd group though Mohammad had no reason to question why Hao had wished it like this. If it there had been then he would have been told, as simple as that.
Up ahead he could see Ayasha digging through her bag for something, pace slowing somewhat as she did. How long she’d manage before tripping into something or before her spirit warded her away from such was the question. For now Mohammad paid little attention to his, turning instead to Kalila. A bit of conversation would pass the time faster.
“You seem to be holding up all right,” he pointed out. | |

| The days passed by rather quickly for Hao. They were rather meaningless for him. Until he reached the Patch Village and won the Shaman Fight, most days would simply pass on by without much entertainment. Hao did look forward to witnessing the other weakly shamans, however. Perhaps something fun would come out of it all.
By request, Hao had Ayasha and her friend follow after him. Ayasha trailed nearby, Kalila and Mohammed somewhere behind them. It was an odd group and even now, minds raced with questions. That was a little amusing to say the least.
Ayasha seemed to be within her own little world for the moment. She walked though she seemed to be focusing on other things. Hao glanced over, catching her trying to pull something from her bag.
"You'll trip, walking and reading, you know," he teased lightly, "Not entertaining enough for you yet?"
Truth be told, they wouldn't see too much action until they were all closer to the Patch Village. Who knew, maybe something beforehand might come up to entertain them.
"Come now. Surely I'm not entirely a bore," he pressed a little, if only to see what answer would come about.---- [ x ] ---- The days went by in the blink of an eye. Fewer people within Hao's fold actually followed him. They were either sent out on orders or went to seek the Patch Village to their own devices. Either way, Hao had made it rather clear he wanted Ayasha close by, and in turn, Kalila stayed as well.
Kalila had tried not to dwell on it. After all, a higher position ensured better things for the both of them. That also meant more responsibility as well. Hao's own training would be taken in account for. Was two and a half months really enough time for all of that?
She didn't like to think about these things this deeply. The point of travelling in the first place was to forget her troubles. Surely further in, there would be more important ones to waste her time on.
Kalila's thoughts were broken as it was. Mohammed spoke up, directing the question to her. He didn't often seem the overly chatty type, often seeming lost in thought. Maybe it was something more. Kalila couldn't quite say she knew him or the others well enough to pick up on subtle differences.
Kalila grinned, patting herself confidently, "I've been travelling the States for years. I'm fine!"
At first, Kalila had underestimated harsh conditions or where it was safe to sleep or even how to get something to eat. Over time, she discovered a trade and worked from there. It wasn't an easy life but it was better than the one she'd left. | |

| There was too much in her bag, always was. It made things difficult trying to fish out just one thing, especially so while walking. Still, it was better than this dreadfully dull walk. There wasn’t much to look at here and while that wouldn’t have normally bothered Ayasha she couldn’t just go wandering off either to make up for it. In light of that reading was her next best bet.
Or rather, it would be if Hao’s voice hadn’t reached her, drawing her away from her searching momentarily.
“Eh?” A pause followed as she took in what he’d said. “It’s more entertaining then desert.”
Besides that there were hardly any other shamans to fight along the way, not with the route they were taking anyways. It left for too much time to brood or daydream until one was all out of ideas. At least, to Ayasha it felt that way. She’d taken to her searching again though it only lasted a few seconds before Hao spoke again, drawing her attention away from the book.
“Maybe if you weren’t so quiet,” she pointed out without pause. Truthfully he’d seemed to grow thoughtful today though Ayasha couldn’t be sure. If that had been the case she’d wanted to at least be a little respectful, even if it mean being rather bored.
----[x]---- Though she’d seemed so lost in thought it only took but a second for Kalila to grin at him and answer. That was a relief, he wasn’t too fond of repeating himself though he would have if needed. He spared a smile at the chipper response, glad to see she was not too troubled. It had seemed like she might be from time to time in the passing days.
“Is that so?” he prodded. Truthfully, he did not know much about her or her younger companion. They’d been rather on their own for the most part until just recently. Even then that was mostly due to Hao’s desires anyways.
The time that had been spent so quietly would due better to learn about his fellow comrades. Surely Kalila might have a tale or two to share of her time spent traveling. All shamans did after all.
“I can’t say I’m familiar with the States,” he admitted. It would not have been a surprise to any who knew him though it at least gave Mohammad something to say.
Their pace remained even, in time with Hao and Ayasha’s up ahead so that neither gained on the pair ahead of them. Perhaps that might be for the best. Though Mohammad could not be sure of Hao’s plans for Ayasha he seemed quite fond of her. Mohammad was not eager to ruin something but ‘stumbling’ upon them when it was unwanted. Besides, he could use the time to get to know Kalila better anyways. | |
