Waka still looked thoughtful and wasn't answering her right away. She shifted her weight, trying to remain patient with him. Whatever was on his mind must have been important after all.

"Then we have to leave?" she asked when he finally spoke up.

That worried her. It wasn't like she had a handle on her powers. She was sure that he'd already considered that as it was. Cedar couldn't guard herself. What about Moegami as well?

He seemed lost in thought again. Eventually he spoke, already starting his way down the hall. Cedar followed after, a little uncertain of what he was getting at.

"What to do with us?" she echoed, "What do you mean?"

Were they going to be left behind or something more? Cedar couldn't be sure. Waka seemed to be thinking things through carefully, not giving her much to go on. This seemed rare, in fact. She didn't recall seeing him like this too often.

One moment, Oki was still sitting up and the net, the air was rushing out of him. He grunted at Mari threw herself into him, tackling him to the floor. His heart leapt in his throat momentarily, staring up at her wide eyed.

Her taunting was very short and she chuckled afterward. Oki laid there, stunned for a few long moments, trying to swallow. His throat suddenly felt dry.

"Please," he teased awkwardly, "you merely caught me off guard."

For a long moment, he debating turning things on her. Eventually he settled for remaining where he was, merely watching her. She clearly looked proud of herself even if it was a brief little tackle.

"You look proud of yourself," he mentioned, trying to keep his voice light, "and what do you plan on doing next?"

She was studying him, that much he could tell. Whether it was because of his mask or something else, he could only really assume. Mari had expressed interest in what was behind his mask in the past.

For a long time Waka didn't answer Cedar. He still wasn't sure what the best course of action would be just yet. Cedar at least still needed guidance, relied on it really. Moegami was another matter entirely, perfectly content to figure things out on his own. Even still leaving them both in the city unattended right now wouldn't be in the best interests of anybody.

Leaving them in Sei-an City might spell disaster considering they did not get along very well. Waka hoped that wouldn't be the case forever but there was no telling. Moegami was hotheaded as it was, even if Cedar would remain quiet it might very well do little good if Moegami pushed things.

"Hm?" he answered, glancing up at Cedar. It took a moment to realize what she'd asked. "Exactly what it sounds like, baby. Two squabbling gods left to their devices can be a devastating thing for those around!"

That wasn't even saying how much damage could be done if they were left here without Waka to keep an eye on things. He would have thought that much would be obvious.

Briefly he glanced around, wondering if Moegami had gotten up yet or not. Perhaps it was best if he hadn't yet, no doubt Moegami would be arguing against things. It did not seem like he was particularly pleased for anything to be planned out for him. Waka hoped that wouldn't be too much of a problem in the long run.

It took Oki a moment to say anything and when he did it was easy to hear the awkwardness in his voice. Worry tugged at Mari then; had she overstepped a line? He was very concerned about the idea of a 'god' and a regular person being together after all. Mari shook the thought away for the moment. It wasn't like they were doing anything inappropriate, at least she didn't think so.

"Hey, element of surprise and all," she shoot back easily.

Her head cocked to one side as Oki wondered about what she planned on doing now. Honestly, she wasn't too sure now. Even as Oki tried to keep his voice light Mari could still hear some uncertainty in it, or maybe it was just awkwardness. She hoped she wasn't putting him off or anything.

For a long moment she just studied that mask of his, the blue and the white on it familiar things by now. It was hard to stop herself from wondering what he looked like again. Did he have a rugged kind of look to him or something else? There were too many possibilities for Mari to settle on any one possibility that she might think of as natural for the man.

"I don't know," Mari admitted softly, still laying off on Oki as they'd landed. He hadn't really done anything to sit back up or turn the tables on her, Oki hadn't even really moved his hands anywhere as if wary of touching her further.

The playful nature of the conversation, at least on her end, had changed into something more serious, a thoughtful look on her face. "Oki, do the Oina ever take their masks off?" she wondered out loud.

It was easy to tell that Waka was not in his usual mood. He might have been when he greeted her but now, he seemed to be a little more somber. It was a little unfamiliar was worrying.

He finally answered her question again. It took her a moment to process it, her stomach tying in knots briefly. They would have to be watched but where would he go.

"You mean to leave us both here?" she guessed then, sparing him a glance.

She wasn't sure how she felt about that. True, she couldn't control her power but she wanted to help as well. It was all very complicated anymore and she didn't know what to make of it. If she couldn't figure out how her powers worked, she couldn't provide much assistance.

She had to think about that as well. If one thing hadn't worked in trying to gain control of her power, she'd just have to try something new.

"He probably isn't even up yet," she mentioned, noting Waka looking around. Moegami expelled a lot of power over the few days. No doubt he was exhausted.

Mari didn't seem took sure of what to do. Her features had briefly contorted into that of worry. Perhaps she thought she had gone to far. Oki didn't let on any the wiser, whether he wanted this or not. Honestly, he found it rather pleasant in a strange way.

She eventually claimed she wasn't sure what she wanted to do. Oki didn't mind that. He wasn't going to get her off him or turn the tables. Part of him worried that he would hurt her.

When she spoke again, the playfulness in her tone melted away. Instead, she a rather strange question.

Of course, she'd no doubt be curious of their customs when it came to these things. Why they wore masks and if they ever took them off were no doubt in the forefront of her mind.

He hummed slightly in response before nodding. "They do," he answered carefully, "but it is an act of...in some manner intimacy. For us to share our faces, the person would have to be very special."

He hoped that was a satisfying answer. For her, it might have been. Maybe he would remove it for her. Oki needed to act on a decision about it soon enough.

Cedar was grasping at what information Waka cared to share with her, trying to figure out what he was planning. Not that this would do her much good, Waka wasn't sure what he'd end up deciding on after all. Right now there were only possibilities, taking into account how both gods acted and could use their powers.

"Perhaps, perhaps not," Waka answered vaguely. The next thing he did was wag a finger at her, tutting. "No use assuming things, ma chérie, nothing's set in stone."

He chuckled a little at the look she shot him. She very much wanted to know what was being put into action that much was obvious. Still, it wasn't like Waka was going to rush things, right now everything was quiet in the city and it gave him time to reflect and plan.

It wasn't hard to realize that she was mentioning Moegami next she spoke, claiming he might very well still be asleep. Waka shrugged at that, the longer the better for now. At least it was one less thing to watch out for as he brooded. There was enough on his plate as it was and so much more to figure out and puzzle over.

"That explains the quiet," he said nonetheless.

Oki was quiet for a moment, probably not expecting that sort of question from her now. While she'd always been curious of their masks and why they all wore them all of the time Mari had never bothered to ask about it before. In some way it seemed more important to her now though she wasn't entirely sure why.

He answered her after a few moments had passed, sounding like he was yet again picking his answer carefully. Perhaps he was though Mari couldn't be sure why he'd need to. It was an innocent question and though she'd wondered many times what his face looked like she wasn't asking him to remove that mask now. It had always seemed like some taboo question to her or maybe that had just been the impression she'd gotten with the way the Oina treated them.

Absently she nodded, mulling over the answer she'd received. It made sense, in a way. Though it wasn't exactly a custom she would have thought about it seemed appropriate when she mused over it.

"That's actually kind of romantic," she decided finally, a small smile spreading over her lips again.

She became aware of the fact that she was still laying on Oki though he hadn't moved to sit back up or push her away. Even still, she wondered if he was bothered by this, she'd hope that he'd say or do something if he was. Mari hoped not, she was rather comfortable where they were, feeling almost happy for the first time in a long while.

Cedar fell silent, unsure of what to say in return. Waka was brooding, something the man never seemed to indulge in. If that was the case, she could only assume that it was serious.

Then again, he'd just told her not to do such things either. She sighed, shaking her head. It was becoming a hassle to figure out.

"Well, if you do feel like sharing, I'll listen," she finally said. A great part of her wished he would confide in her more often, even if it didn't seem like his style.

Waka didn't have much to say when it came to Moegami. She pouted slightly at that. She wasn't used to this side of Waka.

Reaching out, she prodded his side, hoping to get a reaction. Afterward, she tugged at his sleeve. "What's wrong?" she asked carefully. "Please tell me."

She still laid on him. It was something that he was trying to ignore. His heart thumped hard against his chest but not overly so. He grew a little more comfortable as time went on.

The answer seemed to satisfy her. She smiled slightly, commenting on the answer. Oki smiled back at her though she did not see it.

"I suppose it is," he agreed, "it has been the custom since before I was born."

Oki laid back, thinking on that. Would he show her his face? He couldn't deny his own feelings for her, strong as they were. Despite his hesitance on the issue, it was a private place. Derek was still asleep even as the sun was rising.

"Would you like to see my face?" he finally asked, though it was hesitant.

Oki had never done this with anyone. There had never been someone so special in his life. It was, in a way, a privilege. Mari would be the first to see his face.

Cedar didn't seem enthused about the fact that he wasn't sharing much. In fact she was soon urging him to do just that if he felt the need to. Waka silently appreciated the offer though would probably rarely indulge if at all, so accustomed to keeping things to himself as it was. He lived a long life in any case, sharing with people had become something of a foreign concept after so long of being here.

"No need to worry your pretty little head over it, promise!" Waka chimed instead, holding out his hands in an elaborate shrug.

At the topic of Moegami Cedar was soon pouting up at him, an odd expression on her face after all this time. She'd been the serious one of the two, shooting him annoyed looks or smiles or growing thoughtful. This change threw Waka for a loop for all of a handful of seconds before he was waving his hand dismissively.

Cedar didn't need to know about the things that bothered him, it wasn't like he even knew what it was that left him dreading something that might be coming. It was like the eve before a disaster struck, leaving him tense though Waka wasn't sure what for. His lost memories after he'd returned to home with Amaterasu were the key though he had no idea how to even begin to recall them.

"Nothing to fuss over, ma chérie!" he said dismissively.

Oki agreed with her statement and she imagined that he was smiling behind that mask of his. She was glad to know that things weren't so awkward right now that it would carry on through the day. For the moment things seemed all right, the chilly morning air combated by the fact that they were so close together even still. The fire nearby, though not nearly as strongly blazing as it had been before was still providing much warmth as well.

"It's a good custom," she said simply.

Without being able to see a person's face it was harder to come to preconceived notions about them. Too often a pretty or handsome face opened far more doors than for anyone less attractive, it was unfair to many. In a way this mask business combated that.

Oki's question, his voice so quiet Mari almost missed it, broke her from those thoughts. For a moment she could only blink down at him, mind a blank for those few seconds. He seemed to wait, tense beneath her during this time. Finally her gaze softened and she smiled again, feeling her heart swelling pleasantly.

"I would love to, Oki, if you're sure you want to show me," Mari answered.

When he still seemed nervous, moving slowly, Mari reached out, placing her hand over his arm reassuringly. If he decided against it then she would understand, feeling a warmth in her at just the fact that he'd even asked her to see his face.

He wasn't answering her, simply brushing off one question after the other. If she recalled, days before he had prodded her for doing the exact same thing. It was ironic in that way.

She fell silent again, only occasionally sparing a glance around. There were only a few milling about. The other Tao Warriors were probably already stationed around and outside the city.

Cedar sighed through her nose, a little annoyed now. She shrugged her shoulders slightly. Whatever he was hiding or keeping to himself, she couldn't say.

"You're the one who told me not to brood so often," she brought up, trying to prod him a little. It came out awkward. She didn't like telling people what to do. "You're not very good at taking your own advice."

Cedar wasn't sure if it would even work. Waka brushed things off easily and in the end, she'd probably just end up more annoyed. It was the start of the day. She wanted to avoid that if she could.

Mari was content where she laid. He didn't try to push her away. Honestly, he kind of liked it once he'd gotten used to it now. It left him a little warmer in some ways.

Her words were a simple agreement. He smiled a little that she agreed. Some people found them strange, even something to be feared. Oki had never let that fact bother him. He was very proud of his heritage.

When he asked if she would like to see his face, she looked a little stunned. Oki resisted a chuckle at her expression. She answered and he nodded in response.

Carefully, he reached for the mask. He was a little hesitant on the matter. He tugged the mask away, feeling more than a little naked without it. It really was a strange feeling, fresh air hitting his face.

He stared up at her, studying her expression. "Am I what you expected?" he asked albeit hesitantly. He hoped she wasn't disappointed.

Waka's eyebrows rose when Cedar huffed, reminding him of what he'd told her. A quiet chuckle passed his lips It was clear what she was trying to do though she lacked the confidence to do it. Whatever awkwardness she felt could be heard in her voice, speaking softer than usual. It was rather interesting to see her try to turn the tables around.

"Brooding is unbecoming of a god not a prophet," he argued lightly. All the same a smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.

Starting forward the short distance between them, Waka cupped Cedar's face in his hands, his touch light as if somehow he would break her if he touched her any more firmly. Cedar didn't seem to mind this, instead looking to grow curious and a little embarrassed.

Careful with his headdress, Waka leaned forward to rest his forehead on hers. If any Tao Warrior came strolling down the hallway to catch them Waka wouldn't mind it. Sure he might get an earful for it later but he lived for the now when he could. Since he did not have any leads to go off of now he would enjoy the situation and try to lighten the mood he'd ruined.

"Though I suppose I've not be prophesizing lately," Waka mused briefly, "lazy!"

It took Oki a few moments to pull that mask off, hesitating before he did so. When he finally managed to Mari took the time to study his features for the first time even as he watched her. Dark eyes, a strong jaw and nose—these things she had expected though there was little else that matched what she had been envisioning of him.

She met his gaze when he spoke, his hesitance even now not lost on her. Her smile grew, heart thumping a little faster. Mari could only imagine how hard his heart must be beating in his ears right now. She hoped Oki wasn't feeling uncomfortable however.

"No," before she could continue Oki's face fell and Mari imagined it was hurt that she saw flash in his eyes. She didn't let Oki say anything before she'd taken to gently cupping his cheek. "You're more handsome than I expected."

It was quite cute to see his face warm at that compliment and she rather hoped that Itegami wouldn't be getting up soon to ruin the moment. This was perhaps the most comfortable she'd been in this place and time. In fact, despite his own shyness and nervousness Oki seemed rather content.

"Oki, would you mind if I kissed you...?" she wondered, biting at her lip as she waited for his answer. She couldn't deny being a little shy, worried that he might decide not to, that this was enough as it was.

Waka didn't seem at all effected by what she had said. Instead, he merely took amusement out of it and fired her words back at her. Her gaze dropped, her cheeks feeling warm with embarrassment.

It wasn't a moment later did he cup her face, lifting her gaze again. She shuffled uncomfortably, her face feeling hot. Still, there was an amount of curiosity there too. What was he getting at now?

His forehead touched hers and she did her best not to flinch away. She didn't want to be bothered by little things like this. A little contact was not such a bad thing.

"I thought you were lazy before," she shot back, though tried to keep her tone playful.

At least he was trying now. That's all she could really ask for. Whatever was troubling him was left to himself but this was at least an effort.

She reached up, if a little hesitantly, and placed a hand over his. Her heart felt like it could pound right out of her chest. Still, the contact was a nice feeling and one she was growing fond of.

She studied him for a long few moments. In that time, his heart thumped hard against his chest and deafened him. She was quiet, her gaze never once leaving him. Eventually, a smile lit up her face.

Oki's own relief settled onto him. If this was what she imagined, he was glad. It was always hard to say.

Her touch as a gentle one, a far cry from her loud behavior days before. He smiled up at her, glad that she seemed pleased. This was an intimate act and he wanted her to see him.

"Handsome, am I?" he replied. His cheeks felt a little warm, not so used to this kind of contact.

A beat of silence passed, as if she merely wanted to keep studying him. When she asked if she could kiss him, his heart thumped hard against his chest again. The question made him feel awkward but the act itself, it sounded rather appealing.

"No," he finally answered, "I do not mind."

If that's what she wished, he would push aside any awkwardness and take hold of what his feelings were. It would be a slow step but in the end of things, it was better than nothing.

Her face had grown warm under his hands, her cheeks reddening from what he could see. Waka chuckled at this, his breath fanning over her face. If she minded this close contact she didn't say or do anything about it. He supposed he'd know by other factors such as rain falling again without warning. For the moment things were quiet outside.

At her rebuttal he pouted, feigning offense. "Now that was uncalled for!" he argued though it held no conviction behind it.

The quiet settled in around them again and Waka took to stroking her cheek with his thumb. Cedar didn't seem to mind, having brought her hand up to cover one of his. His pout disappeared, a delightful expression crossing his features instead. It was strange to thing that this was enough to make him content for the time being despite all the worries and problems settling in around him. For now they didn't seem all that important.

"What is on little Nuregami's mind, hmm?" he prodded. Waka was genuinely curious in those moments, she hadn't shared much though perhaps that was because he himself did not share much either.

There was nothing but to wait then, remaining close to her. For the time being they were left uninterrupted and Waka rather hoped it would remain that way for some time. Too many times he was rushing about, fixing or solving things. A change of pace was a nice thing, especially when he was discovering new things.

Oki seemed pleased that she liked how he looked, his face warm under her hand. She was glad that he seemed content where they were despite whatever shyness he was feeling now. Mari's heart was racing a little in her chest as it was, she could only imagine how he was feeling.

"Mmhmm," she agreed easily, "very handsome."

It was quiet for a few seconds before Mari braved asking if she could kiss him. For a moment it looked as if he was surprised by this question and she imagined his heart was beating loudly in his ears just like hers was. She waited patiently for him to answer, not wanting to alienate him by acting without an okay. He was hesitant to do much as it was, afraid of how people would react if they found out anyways.

She shoved that thought aside for later. Right now it didn't seem to matter much, at least that was the impression Mari got.

He finally answered her, giving the okay to kiss him. Mari smiled at him shyly before she leaned closer, gaze flicking to his mouth before meeting his gaze again. There was a second in which she paused, as if afraid Oki still would change his mind and push her away. When no such thing happened she brushed her lips over his, lingering for a brief moment.

When Mari pulled away she studied Oki for a moment, biting at her lip. When it seemed as if Oki hadn't minded the light kiss Mari leaned in again, catching him up in a bolder one, lingering longer than before. His lips were surprisingly soft against her chapped ones, warm even and it sent butterflies fluttering in her stomach.

She could feel his thumb stroking her cheeks easily. It left butterflies dancing in her stomach. She would have never thought any feelings could rise for this man but it seemed they had. Cedar tried not to focus on it.

He faked offense again, as he normally did. A small smile tugged at her lips. At least he seemed to be falling back into a better mood. She hoped that it would stay that way.

His question only made her face warm a little more. There was a lot on her mind but the foremost was the situation last night. She tried to clear her throat.

"We were...interrupted last time," she finally admitted.

It wouldn't take him long to figure out what she was taking about. Moegami had walked in on them just before they all turned in. In a way, she had been disappointed. Perhaps now would be a better time to share in that moment with the hope that this time, no one would interrupt them.

He spared her a smile, rather happy to hear what she thought of him. It was something of an uncertain feeling when he removed his mask. Naturally, this would happen. He hadn't been without for years. Pulling it away from his face made him feel, in a way, vulnerable.

Her words were short ones though, her question at hand seemed more important for the moment.

When he gave her permission to kiss him, she still looked hesitant on the matter. His heart pounded hard enough to deafen him as she leaned forward. Her lips brushed passed his own, causing his stomach to flip flop.

Before he really got to enjoy that feeling, she pulled back again. Oki's eyebrows furrowed at this act. For a moment, she looked uncertain before she leaned forward again, catching him in another kiss.

This was much deeper than the last. Momentarily, Oki was at a loss as to what to do. Eventually, his hand tangled into her hair and he leaned into the kiss, deepening it a little. He didn't want to push too far, half afraid of overstepping any boundaries she may have.

Waka raised an eyebrow when Cedar answered him. He wouldn't have pegged her as the type to initiate anything after yesterday though she also didn't seem the type to be open about it either. In a way it was a refreshing change of pace though he wouldn't say this out loud. No need to accidentally offend her and make her draw away.

"That we were," he murmured. Not a moment after did he lean forward further.

It was a simple thing to take her bottom lip between his, nipping at it gently. After that he pulled away to better kiss her more fully, moving one of his hands so that he could instead wrap an arm around her midsection and pulling her flush against him.

When he pulled away to survey Cedar's reaction he was rather pleased to see her face was flushed. A chuckle left him at that and he stroked her cheek once or twice again. Cedar seemed rather happy with where they were right now despite the fact that anyone could wander in and spot them. It wasn't like they were in a private place after all.

"Quite the affection one, hmm?" Waka prodded, leaning forward to rub his nose against hers.

Before she'd kissed him again Mari saw Oki's brow furrow though she didn't dwell on it too long before she'd leaned down once more. For a moment she worried that he would do nothing before he'd reached up to thread his fingers in her hair, leaning into her. Mari sighed with content, smiling against Oki's lips.

When she pulled away again it wasn't for long, merely to catch her breath before she began to place many little kisses at the corners of his mouth and along his jaw. Oki kept his hand tangled in her hair, as if he didn't want her to move away before he was ready for her to. She didn't mind this too much, enjoying the closeness and the moment in a whole.

"Ite might wake up soon you know," she pointed out though she did little to do anything about this. Instead she'd taken to nuzzling into Oki's neck.

Mari was content as they were even if Oki still didn't know whether to pursue his own feelings for her further or not. She supposed in time she would find out. The more they were around people, placing faith in the gods again it might drive him to grow more distant. If that was the case Mari wanted to enjoy the here and now with Oki for as long as she could, just in case.

The quiet around them was something Mari liked, leaving them uninterrupted for the time being. She'd rather not have Oki grow uncomfortable because something like that happened.

Waka seemed to reveal in the fact that she'd grown a little bold. She cleared her throat, feeling a little awkward. Regardless, what was said was said.

His reply was brief one before he leaned forward, carefully taking her bottom lip in between his own. She tensed momentarily before forcing herself to relax.

The kiss that followed as gentle, far less surprising then the one the day before. He tugged her close to him. Cedar leaned into the kiss shyly, her fingers tangling in his robes.

When he pulled back, he merely chuckled. Her face felt hot but it was a pleasant feeling. He leaned forward again, rubbing his nose against hers. Butterflies erupted in her stomach all over again and she tried to glance away.

"Of course I am," she finally said, "you're just finding that out."

Honestly, she was one for affection if she could get over her shyness. Getting over that first hump was always the hardest for her.

Oki sighed through his nose, content for the first time in days. Since leaving the village, he'd been a little frantic about finding Mari. This was more of an enlightening feeling, even as she pulled away.

She kissed his jaw several times, content in continuing her ministrations if she could. Still, she mentioned Derek still laying not a few feet away from them.

"I suppose he will be," he answered, unable to look at the boy. Despite knowing that, he made no move to get up.

Oki toyed with her hair. She seemed to like the feeling, as small as it was. A smile tugged at his lips again. He didn't recall a time when he felt this warm.

She nuzzled into his neck, remaining there. Silence passed for several minutes, simply content where they were. They had a job to do but a little time to themselves didn't seem like a bad thing.

"Are you happy that I came to find you?" he asked finally, curious of her answer. She left so soon without a goodbye. Perhaps she was relieved now that he had returned to her side. In a way, he wondered if this show of affection was proof of that.

Waka chuckled into the kiss as Cedar responded rather eagerly, tugging at his clothes and keeping herself near. Perhaps she had no intent to let him slip away out of her hold until she was ready. In a way Waka didn't mind this though business might crop up all the same.

When they pulled apart and Waka noted her affectionate side Waka reached up to tap her nose as he said, "It seems that way."

Neither he or Cedar pulled apart further, perhaps she was as content to stay this way for awhile as he was. If that was the case then Waka would happily oblige. Cedar seemed to need something to look forward to as it was. She was still obviously nervous out and about with large crowds even if she'd gotten a bit better over the weeks that had passed.

Cocking his head to one side, he caught her gaze with his. "And what does the little snake plan on getting up to today?"

It never seemed like she had any sort of a plan and that made him wonder more often than not. Perhaps she merely took to wandering and finding things to do by chance. It seemed like a legitimate way to go about things, at least for the time being. When more situations arose that would call for a god's touch Waka wondered if she'd be eager to help or not.

Despite knowing Itegami would be waking up at any time neither of them moved. In fact, Oki seemed to take to toying with her hair now that she'd buried her face into his neck. She sighed contently again, glad for this moment. Truth be told, Mari had been worried about how things would be now considering last night's conversation. In a way she still was.

Eventually Oki spoke up, breaking the silence. She blinked, remaining where she was despite the sudden question. She hadn't been expecting anything of that sort to be talked about.

"I am," she admitted, "I just wish it was under different circumstances..."

The idea that Wep'keer had to fall in order for anything to be admitted between she and Oki wasn't pleasant. If Mari had it her way she'd have changed things, would have admitted to feeling something for Oki before this mess happened. Still, she wouldn't forget about what they were doing now, looking for a way to save the other Oina.

"I don't suppose you've come to any sort of decision about us, huh?" she wondered quietly.

Just because they were close now didn't change the fact that he had concerns about it. He'd expressed that well enough last night. While alone he was comfortable enough about these things but out in the open, Mari had no doubts that he was uncomfortable with that. Worrying about how others would treat and perceive him because of it, Mari could understand that much.

Cedar felt quite content where she was now. It was a strange kind of thing. She wasn't used to this and while she found it pleasant, it would take a little time to get used to as well. She guessed there was no real rush, however.

She tried to ignore the heat on her cheeks. It was hard to quash, especially as he took to prodding her so simply again.

Neither of them seemed ready to pull away or start the day yet. Cedar was content where she was and if she had to guess, Waka was too. It wasn't as if he was simply indulging her.

His question had been a simple one. Cedar wasn't sure what to do today. She had little idea where to start with her powers at all.

"I don't really know," she replied, "maybe try to toy with my powers again...maybe study. If there's anything that can help, I'd like to find out about it."

Reading might provide answers but she still had trouble with the characters. There were some who had been trying to teach her when she asked. She could only manage so much, however, and often resorted to simply asking for someone to translate.

Mari had yet to really move away from him. In truth he didn't want her to. They would have to get moving again soon enough. If there could be more stolen moments like this later, well, perhaps they would indulge in them.

When she answered his question, he hummed in response. Truthfully, if they had been under different circumstances they both would have been happier. For the time being, there was nothing they could do.

"Perhaps in time, there will be happier circumstances," he replied carefully, "we can worry about the rest then."

For a few short moments, he closed his eyes, simply enjoying the warmth between them. The morning was a little chilly and it helped converse a little heat.

Her question caught him off guard a little. Oki thought about it for a moment. He'd done quite a bit that he normally wouldn't have done for anyone else. The removal of his mask was the biggest yet.

"I have," he replied, "if you do not mind a lowly man by your side, than I am more than happy to act on my feelings for you."

Mari seemed revealed by those words. Oki spared a smile as well. He figured he'd shown her quite a bit in the last hour or so. There was no reason not to act on what he felt now. It was simply a matter of trying to get used to what people might say or think.

Though she claimed being affectionate it was clear that Cedar was not accustomed to it. Her face was still bright red, warm beneath his hand. Waka had to wonder how long it would be until she'd grow used to such contact or if she'd always be the bashful type. He'd heard of and glimpsed a few cases such as that over the long years in Nippon at any rate.

Though the question he had to ask was an easy one Cedar took a moment to think it over. Perhaps she hadn't thought of anything until now, content to merely go about her day until she found something to do. Waka wasn't sure how people went about that, he quite usually had something to see to by the time he'd even woken up.

The answer wasn't too surprising, in fact he'd wondered if she'd try to figure out her powers again. In any case it was good that she was. Perhaps Moegami's slightly better control over his had spurred her on to accomplish more or maybe it was something else. Whatever it was it had her motivated enough to do something about it.

"Why not see about little Nuregami's history, hmm?" he offered.

Cedar had no memories of her life as a god, perhaps learning more about that would do her some good. At any rate it would give her something to look for if she had nothing else to grasp at.

Mari waited for Oki to reply hearing him hum thoughtfully. It took a second or two before he actually spoke up though when he did it was hopeful of happier circumstances later on. Mari hoped that would be the case but from the looks of it that might take a long while. There seemed to be a lot of gods to find after all.

It was her turn to hum briefly, just to show that she was listening. There wasn't much to say in return to it after all. Until they could find a way to reverse what had happened in Wep'keer it wasn't like any future plans could be made.

When she asked him about what he planned to do about them it took Oki a longer moment yet to answer. Mari waited, perhaps a little anxiously, and did her best not to rush him for one. He took what the other people would react like seriously after all, it would be unfair of her to expect him to have an easy answer or time dealing with that sort of thing.

Oki finally answered, still sounding thoughtful about it. Mari first sighed in relief before she pushed herself up to meet his gaze again, pouting down at him. He seemed a little curious of what she was doing though he waited for her to speak up.

"What have I told you about that 'lowly' talk?" she pointed out. Mari didn't give Oki enough time to answer, instead she smiled down at him and continued to speak. "For as long as you want to be at my side then I will never mind."

With that said she leaned down, kissing Oki once more. They'd have to get moving, starting breakfast and waking Itegami up. She'd rather stay like this for the time being but doing that for too long would be selfish when there were more important matters to attend to.

Cedar leaned against him, feeling a little less bashful as time moved on. It would take some getting used to but she liked to think she could make some progress.

She didn't mind the quiet. In fact, in the last few days, it was about as content as she'd been. True, her mood had picked up at points but she still had an overwhelming feeling of loneliness most nights. This almost filled the void.

His suggestion was a simple one. Cedar should have looked into things like that long ago. Instead, she simply tried to focus on making her powers work for her.

"Where could I find things like that?" she asked after a moment.

She hadn't found much in terms of libraries here, if that's what they even called them. There was the one area near the aristocrats quarters but no one had been there at the time she'd walked through.

"I can't exactly read a lot of what's there either," she pointed out, "why couldn't I have ended up here with a general knowledge of the language? That would have been a terribly nice help."

She took his first answer for what it was. It wasn't much but they had a job to fulfill. Until whatever that darkness was over his home was gone, they couldn't entirely focus on these feelings.

Oki pushed passed this for a time. There were many things to worry about. He didn't want to overwhelm himself or start brooding over these things too much.

The relief was there with his other answer. She seemed genuinely pleased until he mentioned himself as being a 'lowly man' once again. He'd forgotten she didn't care for that.

A pout overtook her features and she scolded him. A small smile tugged at his lips. He would have to be a little more careful about his words.

"I will remember that," was all he managed to say before she leaned down and kissed him again. He leaned into it, if only for a brief few seconds. Derek was shifting, probably waking up.

"I suppose we'll have to wait for another time," he said, making a grab for his mask. It would soon be back in place, hiding his face once more.

Waka raised an eyebrow at Cedar's question even as she'd leaned into his chest. She was quite clearly content where they were though they'd need to get started on the day as a whole sooner rather than later. All the same Waka made no mention of that now. No, for now he was enjoying himself and he wasn't about to rush things when he wasn't even sure where to start himself.

"Why everywhere, of course," he said simply as if it was the most obvious answer. When he received a look from Cedar Waka expanded on that answer; "Everyone knows the legends, just ask around, ma chérie!"

She had trouble reading the language here despite being able to speak and understand just fine. This alone made him curious, this should not have been an issue at all and yet it was. He worried that the other gods were in this same predicament, what else might they have forgotten as well?

Reaching up Waka tapped her nose playfully. "You expected it to be more difficult?"

From the look of it she probably had and in a way it was rather cute. Some things weren't all that hard however and this was one of them, at least for Cedar it would make things run more smoothly. That was if she could bring herself to go out and speak with the civilians. Many still regarded her carefully and he'd noticed it made her uncomfortable from time to time.

She hummed appreciatively before she'd caught him in a brief kiss. Oki responded more confidently this time around, leaning into her almost instantly. There was little time to enjoy the contact before he was pulling away, mentioning other opportunities to share moments like this together. Mari didn't mind that fact, in fact she would look forward to them.

Pushing herself up she allowed Oki to right himself, his mask back into place moments later. Glancing over at Itegami she could see what had Oki getting a start on their day for real as the other god was already starting to toss and turn. She imagined he might be a little aggravated, perhaps trying to get comfortable on the ground where he lay.

"I'll hold you to that," she murmured to Oki.

Still not entirely used to cooking without modern technology, Mari took to waking Itegami up more fully. The sun had risen enough that the foggy morning was clearer now though it was still chilly. Now that she was away from Oki it was more noticeable, her bare legs taking the brunt of it.

"Ite, c'mon, time to get up," Mare urged, nudging his shoulder.

Waka was encouraging her to ask people again. It wasn't as if she didn't want to. She didn't know how to approach them. Some, she simply managed to on chance to help.

"I suppose I could try to ask," she answered. While she much preferred a quiet time left to her own devices, she knew that she couldn't keep up this pattern forever.

When she mentioned her lack of understanding of their writing, he looked thoughtful for a moment. That melted away and he tapped her nose easily, speaking up on the matter again.

Cedar resisted a snort as she shook her head. "I expected it to be convenient," she answered, her tone a little lighter, "but much like most of my young life, nothing ever is."

It was hard to imagine that her life back home was not so grand compared to what she was thrown into now. Either way, both livelihoods had their share of problems. She grew a little somber at that thought.

"I suppose we should probably start the day?" she asked, pulling herself away a little. There would be time to indulge in such things later.

Oki had pushed himself up, ready to get things packed. Mari took to shaking Derek awake. He heard the boy groan, muttering to himself. Oki shook his head and stamped out the embers that remained from the fire.

"I think you've managed enough sleep," he said, glancing over at the two.

Derek's expression was not at all pleasant. He looked grumpy for it being so early in the morning. Oki tried to ignore it, already used to early mornings as it was.

"You normally have me up at the crack of dawn anyways," Derek replied, "why the sudden change of heart?"

Oki was quiet for the moment, gathering what he could. He stuffed what little supplies were actually out back into their bag.

"You both needed rest," Oki lied, "after what happened back home, I won't take a risk. Agata Forest may be dangerous now for all I am aware of." If anything, that was partly the truth.

Oki rose to his feet, glancing at the pair. Derek seemed to be satisfied with the answer for the moment. Oki handed him and Mari some dried meat. It would have to suffice for the moment.

"We'll head out as soon as we're finished here."

Waka was pleased that Cedar at least seemed to be willing to try to ask around. If nothing else it might keep her busy for the day. That was if she could get herself to speak to many people and gather the stories as she went. For all he knew Cedar might shy away from that idea at the last minute.

“Ah, if it was all convenient nothing would be worth it!” Waka chided lightly, wagging a finger at her.

If nothing else a bit of adversity and working hard for things made them more memorable. It didn’t seem like Cedar agreed to that though it wasn’t enough for any further prodding on the matter. Whether or not someone agreed they went through it all the same.

She was speaking again, drawing away from Waka. He felt rather cold after having her pressed against him for so long, nonetheless he didn’t try to pull her back. It was true that things needed to get started on for the day though he’d found he’d much rather linger here for a minute more. Waka shoved the thought away, thinking like that would make him procrastinate further.

“Oui, perhaps we should,” Waka agreed, allowing his hands to drop to his side.

He gestured for Cedar to start forward and he’d help her on down into Sei-an City proper. Moegami seemed content to sleep all morning and if that’s what kept the fire god out of trouble Waka would leave him to it. Perhaps it might even make Moegami more friendly in the long run though Waka held doubts about that.

Mari wasn't too bothered by Itegami's behavior even as he swatted at her hand. Instead she nudged him again, urging him to get up once more. Oki was quick to mention that Itegami had had plenty of sleep by this time and that they really needed to get a move on. The younger man didn't seem enthused about this but nonetheless pushed himself up.

"You shouldn't look gift horses in the mouth," Mari pointed out when Oki didn't say anything right away. This seemed to give him plenty of time to come up with something to say regardless.

It was easy to tell that Oki wasn't comfortable with letting things be known between he and Mari. If that's how he felt than Mari wouldn't mention it either. If nothing else it would make the time between them a little more special when they had private moments to share.

The possibility of Agata Forest being dangerous left her wary. She had no weapon to defend herself with and though she was able to throw up flimsy barriers when she was in danger she wasn't sure what else moon powers would do for her. That wasn't even mentioning the fact that Itegami still didn't seem to have any control over his icy abilities either.

"Do we know how far away Agata is?” Mari wondered, taking the proffered dried meat. It was tough to bite into though she didn‘t mind much as it at least quieted her belly.

Waka hadn't argued in regards to her hesitance in asking around. Normally he would have picked at something like that. It was a little appreciated, though she left it unmentioned.

Cedar shook her head but managed nothing more in response. She didn't like a whole lot of fuss when it came to most things. This whole situation in general was just that. It left her feeling a little weighed down at times.

When she pulled away, she tried to ignore how cold it felt. If he would indulge her later, she would look forward to it. For now, there was work that needed to be done.

She started forward, glancing at him once. He'd probably be up to some kind of search today.

"Are you planning on looking for clues to the other gods?" she asked after a moment, hoping to get an answer out of him. Briefly, she had to wonder how far that would take him.

Cedar shuffled her weight a little, walking out onto the platform. No matter how often they ended up doing this, she still hated it. She doubted she'd ever really get over her fear of heights.

Mari seemed to be able to deal with Itegami's behavior well enough. That was good, all things considering. If the boy caused too much trouble, Oki was confident he'd get an earful. Who knew however. Mari had been calmer in the last few days.

He was thankful that Mari had spoken quicker then he managed to. While the phrase was a strange one, it gave him enough time to think up something to say.

Derek finally rose to his feet, letting out a yawn and a good stretch. At least he was moving now, despite his argument beforehand.

"Yea, yea," Derek finally muttered, "I'm up, okay?"

He took what was offered to him and started to eat. Oki couldn't imagine being so relaxed but then again, maybe the boy was hiding his feelings. it seemed he did that quite a bit as it was.

Oki's gaze fell onto Mari when she spoke up. Truthfully, Oki didn't know the exact distance, just the general direction. Rarely leaving his own home, he didn't know too much about what was beyond. He hoped it wouldn't be far now.

"It should not be far now," Oki answered, lacking any real response, "I admit, I am not familiar with the area."

"We had a few stops," Derek finished for him, "to make sure we weren't getting ourselves hopelessly lost."

Cedar didn't take long to wonder what he would be up to for the day, in fact she came to a rather hasty conclusion though not an entirely wrong one. The gods were cause for concern after all, anyone in Waka's position would want to find out their whereabouts and their course of action. For the time being he only knew of two of them and a brief notion that Yumigami was off in the distance considering the few occasions when the sunset arrived without a moment's notice hours earlier than it should have.

"But of course!" Waka chimed in nonetheless.

Out on the platform itself the wind was a little chilly though it would be better down in the city proper with everything in the way to block it. He wound an arm around Cedar's midsection, tugging her close but only for the brief moment it would take to leap down with her. The wind rushed past them, tugging at his their clothes and hair before they landed far more gracefully than when Waka had hauled both gods up with him at once.

He steadied Cedar after they landed, no matter how many times they went about this she never seemed to grow used to it. Perhaps it had something to do with Nuregami being represented as a snake or maybe it was something else entirely. Whatever it was Waka didn't ask.

"Perhaps you might find what you're looking for today," Waka pointed out, attempting to pick her mood up a little further. She never seemed all there after their leap onto and off of that platform above.

Now that he was actually up Itegami was at least moving quickly enough for them to get a move on. The offer of food might have helped too. He still didn't look enthused but then in the short time Mari had none the boy he hadn't looked anything but moody. No doubt he was still struggling with everyone, she just hoped he'd have an easier time of things as they went.

When she asked about the distance to Agata Forest Oki sounded unsure even as he estimated that it might not be far. Mari's gaze drifted to the land over them. In the distance things looked a little mountainous and she hoped they wouldn't need to resort to climbing. Maybe they should have asked around for the best route to the forest...

"Well, I guess we'll just pick a direction and go then," Mari pointed out. It was their best option at this point and if they ran into anyone else out here they'd be able to ask for directions. Until then they were on their own.

As they started off Mari chewed thoughtfully, feeling no rush to finish off her breakfast. Now that they were moving Mari hoped the morning chill wouldn't bother her too much. Itegami didn't look bothered by and she wondered again if there was a reason for that. Some people preferred the cold though from his reaction when they first met he didn't even really feel it anymore.

Mari shook the thought away instead choosing to wonder what they might find in the forest. If demons were roaming about all over the place then what was hiding in wait in Agata? She hoped it wasn't anything that they couldn't handle.

Cedar had to steady herself when they reached the bottom. Waka even reached out, aiding her in that endeavor. This wasn't uncommon but this time, it made her stomach flip flop pleasantly.

She cleared her throat, looking elsewhere for a time. Waka would no doubt take his time today looking for clues to the other gods. Without any others, he was back to square one.

"I may," she finally answered, trying to ignore how light headed she still felt, "but I've a bad run of luck as well."

Regardless of that, these people knew more about the gods than she did. Someone had to be able to tell her something. She thought about seeing those kids again, asking them. They'd taken an interest in her, after all.

"I'll see who I can find," she continued afterward, "you just be careful, okay?"

Cedar didn't know what extent of power these other wayward gods had much less the demons outside the city. Knowing so little about that as well as his ability, she worried a little. It wasn't often that she expressed it however.

Mari at least looked thoughtful on these matter. The expression was a little strange on her features after seeing a little more impatience in her but Oki wasn't bothered. They needed to take things seriously for the time being.

They stood and ate what they could. The trip was long as it was and he'd rather they move on with their stomach filled a little bit.

"We will manage," Oki replied, "if anything, I know it is near river. That can be scented easily."

Derek snorted, shaking his head. "Yea, that mutt will find the way," he finally said.

"You're a brat but at least you're talking," Oki responded, "best keep that up instead of pouting all of the time."

While it was a little childish, he caught Derek sticking his tongue out at him. Oki waved it off easily, slinging the bag over his shoulder.

"If we're ready, we best be off," he announced, "we still have a little ways ahead of us."

Waka waved a hand dismissively at the mention of a streak of bad luck. It seemed Cedar still had no idea how much pull she had when she took to proving herself as Nuregami to the people. All she needed was to ask and things would happen or be presented to her. Some might haggle for help but otherwise Cedar should have no difficulties, at least she shouldn't.

"Try, try, and try again!" Waka chimed.

Whether or not she actually appreciated that small reply Cedar took to seeing that he was careful with himself today. A quiet scoff left him at that. Very few things could really pose too much of a threat if he kept an eye and ear out. As he gathered information Waka didn't expect much trouble to arrive.

"No need to worry about a lowly prophet, baby!" he argued lightly.

With that he started off but not before he leaned in to place a quick kiss on the tip of Cedar's nose. He had the briefest glance of her face as he turned to leave, he liked to imagine she had turned pink again. For the moment he didn't dwell on it however. There were other things that needed tending to.

Oki didn't seem too bothered by the insult though he did mention the boy's penchant for talking today. If anything else maybe being away from the snow and ice in the north did him some good. Odd, considering what his powers were but Mari didn't mention that out loud. For all she knew Itegami had just needed time to clear his thoughts, away from people prodding him for things.

Nonetheless Mari said, "While you're at it you should try acting cuter, Ite. People like helping cuties."

Mari ignored whatever looks Itegami shot her, instead gesturing for Oki to start them off. The more distance they covered now the less they'd have to worry about later. There wasn't any use wasting any more daylight even if it was still early in the morning.

It was a simple thing to fall instep with Oki, their pace quick but not so much that it'd be tiring too soon. She told herself to just keep her mind on their destination and not to think about how far away it might be. She did find herself hoping that it wouldn't be more than a few days though that seemed silly considering what their surroundings consisted of.

"I suppose we're not really sure what we're trying to find in Agata Forest are we?" Mari wondered out loud.

Waka's words were quick and they usually were. Regardless of how he brushed her own off, she would still worry. If he really was just a man, he'd be susceptible to injury, just like anyone else.

Those thoughts were chased away when he leaned down quickly, pecking her nose before he walked off. Her cheeks felt warm and she rubbed her nose. Dipping her head, she watched his figure disappear before she walked off herself.

Despite it being early, people were already out and about. If anyone had seen that quick show of affection, they hadn't said anything. Cedar would ignore it if they had. She just wanted to see if anyone knew anything.

She spared a glance around, shuffling her weight a little bit, debating who to ask. She wasn't one for approaching other, normally allowing people to talk to her first.

Swallowing, she moved on. If she could find one of those kids, maybe they would be able to help her. They seemed to attach themselves to her rather quickly, after all.

Her gaze wandered as the minutes ticked by slowly. It was still early. For all she knew, those kids were still tucked into bed or just now starting the day.

He took notice of Derek shooting Mari a look but said nothing more. They were at least getting along now. That was for the best. Two bickering gods would do him little good.

He started forward, the two following closely after. The morning was at least pleasant, birds chirping and other wild life milling about. They didn't seem to be aware of the lingering threat.

"There were gods in Agata Forest," he answered, "if I recall correctly, Mari, that is where you resided as well."

"If she was originally a part of this forest or whatever," Derek answered before Mari had a moment to, "then how did she end up so far away from it?"

Oki could only offer a shrug in response to his words. Honestly, it was hard to say. That was another mystery that he had no answer for.

"I do not know," he answered, "and if this happened in Mari's case, it is safe to assume that the other gods may have woken in others places as well. Regardless, there may be one other in Agata Forest and I'd rather not pass up looking."

It was the best plan he had to go on in days really. They just needed to keep going.
