She glanced up at him, aware that she'd probably caused a little more harm. She swallowed thickly and she pushed herself to her feet. She was quiet for a long moment, shuffling in her spot momentarily.

She wrung her hands nervously before she said, "I know, I'm sorry. I'm just trying to help if you'd listen."

Cedar understood the position. She had been, still was, terrified and often time found herself struggling not to just burst out in tears. Now that she had confirmed that she'd done something, a little weight lifted off her shoulders.

"My name's Cedar," she introduced, hoping to calm him down a little. Some normal conversation might help, "what's yours?"

Part of her hoped that a Tao warrior could come and help. Who knew if one caught sight of the chase or not. If they did, perhaps they would inform Waka. She wasn't sure if that was a good idea given this guys current disposition.

"I really just want to help," she continued, "I'm in the same position as you, alright? You don't know how you got here either, right?" If anything, that seemed like a good start.

Derek was a little bit surprised by her change in demeanor. She seemed to have such an attitude before. He tried not to dwell on it. That seemed unimportant compared to everything else. Everything was foreign to him and he didn't know these people.

Samickle brushed things off easily, seeming to settle her a little. Derek shifted a little impatiently at that, waiting on his question to be answered.

"Why the rush?" Derek asked, shrugging slightly, "give yourself time to say goodbye to people at least."

He wasn't sure what was going on here but there were some who put a lot of stock into her. That dog guy that left earlier seemed to, with how much he hung around and so closely at that.

"Yes, you may want to inform someone," said the old man, "at least then they won't be in the dark about where you've gone. They would worry."

"As for me, am I just hanging around her or...what?" Derek prodded again. He was growing annoyed and impatient, trying to get things moving.

"We'll take care of you boy. Show some manners." Derek tried to hide his annoyance after those words.

The girl was weird. She was shuffling around, looking up at him nervously now that he'd pushed himself to his feet. Blake wasted no time in putting some distance between them, eyeing the water nearby warily. She'd done that once, who was to say she wouldn't do it again? Already he felt colder now that he was drenched and he hoped he'd dry quickly.

Eventually she was asking what his name was, saying her own. Blake shook his head, scoffing at her. After being blasted by water so forcefully why should he play nice with her? That had hurt and in a way that Blake couldn't quite describe. It felt more like his insides had been doused by something and he felt colder already.

"Why? So you can turn me in easier? I already stick out as it is why d'you need a name now?" Blake argued, folding his arms over his chest.

This deterred her for a moment and if Blake wasn't wrong it looked like she'd flinched. He wondered about that. She'd given chase and had done something with the water so what was there to be afraid of from him? She had the advantage if he really was connected to the fire that erupted from him so often.

A scoff left him again at her next statement. "You seem to know more than me so what's with the interrogation?"

Cautiously he sneaked a quick peak around. If there was someone else following he didn't want to be caught, maybe he could use it as a distraction if the girl looked too. She didn't, not yet anyways. Blake would rather not run off until he knew for sure that she would not be so quick to follow after for whatever reason.

It was a little frustrating to have everyone suggest having her slow down, say a few goodbyes personally. That would only make things complicated and she'd rather not explain things again. Mari wasn't sure how perceptive some of the others might be, she'd rather not appear vulnerable with the real reason being brought up at any time.

"Goodbyes make things messy," Mari argued, "a note will do just fine."

Samickle shook his head and she heard him scoff yet again. "Stubborn as always. That hard head of yours is going to get yourself hurt," he snapped. Nonetheless he had found some blank paper for her to write any despite what he felt on the matter.

Mari took up the brush in her hand, pausing only after she'd dipped it into the ink well. She'd have to puzzle out the write symbols for what she wanted to say or ask Kemu or Samickle to write it for her. In truth she'd rather avoid that much, especially so with Itegami nearby. The boy seemed like the type to make fun of things like this.

Already he was asking about what he was supposed to be doing, following after her or staying or whatever else. It was no surprise to Mari when Kemu confirmed that Itegami would remain here if he so pleased. Or maybe Itegami took it more as a demand considering the very last bit seemed to be more implied.

"Should I assume I am to be housing another god then?" Samickle wondered, sounding rather sour about the idea. No doubt he was recalling all the trouble Mari had caused him with her stubborn refusals and arguments.

Cedar tried not to flinch when he snapped at her. She knew she had failed in that endeavor. This whole time, people had been rather gentle with her. The sudden aggression didn't do her much good.

"I didn't plan on turning you in," she replied carefully, "I just wanted you to stop. There are kids around here and you could have hurt them."

If he cared he brushed it off in favor of snapping at her again. She shuffled her weight, ducking her head briefly. This man wasn't so kindly and she tried to put it on the fact that he was probably frightened.

"I don't know much more than what you probably do," she answered, "I just figured it might help. It's not like you're alone in this anymore, right?"

He didn't seem to care about that. Cedar couldn't be sure. His aggression probably masked whatever worries and fears he might still have.

Derek raised a brow at her. That seemed odd but he said nothing more on it. If that's what she thought, who was he to argue with her. She seemed fairly confident that was best after all.

"Whatever," he answered. He just hoped that no one was asking him anytime soon.

If anything, it sounded like they shared one thing in common. They were both rather stubborn and that made things a little bit entertaining in the end.

"If you feel that is best Mari, we will stay silent about your departure."

Derek blinked, his attention drawn to Mari momentarily. She was trying to write something but the characters were really foreign to him. Just one more thing to chalk up on the list of things he didn't get.

His attention turned to Samickle then. Derek could only really shrug in response, unsure of what to say.

"I suppose that is up to Itegami. What do you plan to do lad?"

Derek was quiet for a long moment before he shrugged again. "Not like I have any place to go," he answered glumly.

Blake’s eyes narrowed at the girl. He’d been told that line before, it was hard to trust anyone who chased after someone. That was something that he’d found out the hard way at one point. An innocent tagging had turned into a trip down to the police department when he’d been held up.

“Yeah right,” he grumbled with a shake of his head, “you say that like I did it on purpose!”

It had been an accident, the dog snapping at him startling him. He hadn’t had any sort of control over what caught on fire or why it had come from him in the first place. In truth, Blake had hoped that whatever was happening to him would have stopped by now, at least enough for him to find something to wear so he’d blend in more even if he did think the clothes were goofy looking.

His gaze continued to stray, looking for people coming after him from anywhere else. If Cedar had caught up to him someone else might have come after him too. He’d rather not be caught off guard. When she’d spoken he’d been about to argue back at her when something caught his eye. For a moment he thought he was nuts, no one could be up there much less jump like that and yet there someone was, up on the rooftop and leaping again, closer even.

Blake’s heart leaped in his throat as he realized whoever it was was heading this way. “Fuck!” he shouted, turning and darting off down the nearest alleyway.

”Naughty, Cedar, going after Moegami without moi!” Waka called out, leaping closer. He could cover a lot of ground in one leap and it was a good thing considering Moegami had already started to run despite whatever he and Cedar had been speaking about.

Though Itegami scoffed Kemu seemed supportive of her plan even if he had advised against it. Mari had no words to express how grateful she was for the lack of argument on that front. If she had to face some of the others Mari knew her resolve would falter and she'd remain here. Until she had any sort of firm grasp on this power of hers Mari felt it was best that she left.

Giving her thanks, Mari worked on her note. At least it would give them time to hash out where Itegami would be staying and what would happen with him. The boy was younger than she was and probably just as confused and lost as she'd been at the start. She'd be lying if she wasn't still a little confused and lost now though.

"Then it seems my door must remain open for you," Samickle said with a sigh. Perhaps he'd been hoping for a bit more peace and quiet though it was hard to say.

Mari scoured her note, hoping that it made enough sense. The characters were simpler ones but it would get the message across with any luck. Mari worried that it was just a mess of nonsensical words however it would be embarrassing to have Samickle or Kemu look it over for her. Instead she carefully rolled it up after blowing on the ink to make sure it had dried.

“Ignore Samickle‘s moodiness, he‘s always like that,” Mari advised Itegami as she turned to Kemu, holding out the note. She‘d rather the old man hand this note off to the intended person as he had more tact. “Could you make sure Oki gets this?”

Once that was tended to the last thing she needed were to gather whatever supplies the Oina could afford to part with. It would only be a matter of steeling herself once and for all and setting off.

Cedar was running out of arguments here. The guy wasn't listening either. Whatever suspicions he had with her, she couldn't say. He looked like he wanted to be off like a shot as soon as he could.

She shuffled again, trying not to get so nervous when he snapped at her. She didn't like aggression. It always made her feel like she was under a lot of pressure.

Whatever was going to be said was cut off. She didn't have a chance to reply nor did he have a chance to argue. He was off before she could even react. Waka's voice rang out soon after.

Cedar stood unsure of what to do for a long moment. Waka was on the move, intending to catch up to the guy as soon as he could. She understood why but the way of going about it might not have been the wisest of moves.

"Wait, Waka!" she shouted as she starting running after the two, hoping that he'd at least stop and listen. She wasn't so sure however. "He's just scared! Don't do anything rash!"

Derek shuffled his weight but could do or say nothing more. If he was honest with himself, he felt awkward. He didn't quite like the feelings he was having now. He wasn't used to being so scared or alone.

He lifted his head, watching Samickle for a moment before he scoffed. The man seemed rude. That didn't seem like anything new considering everyone he met had their moments of rudeness. Everyone but that girl who they stayed with.

Mari was the one who spoke, informing him that Samickle always seemed rude. He could only shrug.

"At least theres some honesty there," he answered in return. It was a that statement and nothing more. Mari handed the old man the note, asking for Oki to get the letter.

"Of course, my dear," the old man said, "you just be careful. And remember, you are always welcome here, with the Oina Tribe."

If Derek had to say anything about that, it was that Mari did get a little emotional. In some way, he felt a little bad. He didn't mention it however.

Waka could hear Cedar shouting after him, begging him to be careful with Moegami and that he was just frightened. There was a quick moment in which Waka waved though whether this was in agreement to her or not wasn’t clear. He had no time to sit around and make sure she could decipher his intentions when Moegami was already ahead of him.

The man was dark-skinned and wore strange clothes not unlike the ones Cedar had been in when he’d found her. These were obviously made for a man however though Waka wasn’t sure what made him think that other than the bagginess of what he wore. The finer details of Moegami and his clothes were lost to him as the chase ensued.

Several times small sparks erupted from Moegami, smoldering on the path or on some table. One person stomped out a small ember that had begun to smoke. Waka had to wonder what had this fire so weak when the blazing fire nearby was a testament to what Moegami was normally capable at this point.

It was only when Moegami had ducked into a house that Waka lost sight of him. Having to get down on street level meant that there was a window where Moegami could have slipped away and even searching around netted Waka no results. It was with annoyance that Waka was forced to head back, seeking out Cedar to consult her on this new god. At the very least she had spoken with him for at least a minute or so.

Cedar was easy to find, surprisingly. From the looks of things she must have followed as best she could despite the disadvantage she had. Waka waved at her, smiling even when he felt this could have gone much better.

“What a troubling situation, non?” he called.

Samickle had grown quiet though maybe it was because he had nothing to add to the conversation now. He was a tactless man it seemed and so moments like this were undoubtedly not his forté. It was enough that he hadn‘t argued too much against her decision other than the obvious concerns, at least Mari felt that way. On some level it was obvious that he cared about people just in his own way.

It was enough that Kemu spoke up, promising her a place to return to. Mari swallowed, attempting to ignore the lump that lodged itself in her throat. It was hard to get herself moving after that, taking what supplies Samickle had to spare and heading out into the cold.

Mari forced her self to move quickly, eager to find some place where she could bed down for the night. It was still early and the more ground she covered the better. When there was no snow and ice around her Mari would feel better about everything, at least then the night she might accidentally bring might not effect the Oina as badly as if she were based here all of the time.

Even when her hands trembled in the cold Mari pushed on, unwilling to let it slow her down. She couldn‘t let herself turn back now.

Cedar had lost Waka right from the start. His main priority was finding Moegami and while she understood she hoped things wouldn't go astray.

She wasn't sure how long she waited, wandering about for his return. He did approach her finally though he was alone. He'd lost Moegami somewhere in the city. That worried her.

"You frightened him off," she replied, "he was afraid you were going to arrest him and throw him in prison. That's why he ran."

That guy didn't know that this place was different. With this god status as well, the most he'd have to worry about is controlling his powers.

She shuffled nervously a moment later. She didn't like to admit it after so adamantly telling him he was wrong. Owning up to it was for the best after all and finally, she motioned to him nervously.

"And you were right," she finally confessed, "about the whole...powers thing. It just kind of happened when I was chasing him. It was the only way I managed to catch up."

He could whatever he wanted with that information. Knowing him, he'd have a bit of a field day.

Oki had spent several hours patrolling the area for demons. When he had arrived originally, there were several of them. One man was already injured and he wasn't intending to see any more than that.

The hours were long, sniffing about or listening carefully for anything. Only when he was satisfied that no other demons were lingering about did he head back. He picked his way home carefully, just to be thorough.

Oki returned to Samickle's only to find him and Itegami there. He blinked behind his mask but thought little of it.

"Did Mari return to Kai's?" he asked.

Itegami only shot him the briefest of glances before shrugging. It seemed the boy had yet to break out of his shell if he didn't need to.

That left Samickle to answer. The man was busy for the moment and Oki would wait on him. He was a tad tired, hoping to wrap things up quickly. Still, if it was important, Samickle would answer him eventually.

Waka tipped his head to one side as Cedar chided him. It was an easy thing to wave off, holding out his hands in a shrug as he approached her. Moegami was in the city now, it wouldn't be hard to get word on where he was when he stuck out so much. That dark skin alone was enough of a beacon, so unlike the people he reigned over.

"Ah, a challenge then! Trés bien!" Waka answered. If nothing else it made it harder but he wouldn't let that worry Cedar for now.

The way she took to shuffling was enough to see that something was bothering her. Waka waited, tapping Pillowtalk on his shoulder. Rushing Cedar never did any good he'd found though it was taking quite a bit for her to spit it out. The silence that stretched was a little odd honestly if only because she'd just got finished with reprimanding him for chasing Moegami.

Finally she spoke up, mentioning whatever had happened to allow Cedar to catch Moegami in the first place. Waka's eyebrow rose, intrigued. He couldn't help but to wonder what had happened in particular though the vague detail was enough.

Grinning he leaned in, meeting her eyes and said, "Is that so, mon trésor? And here I thought little Nuregami did not believe in such things!"

The way she shot him a look was amusing though he had to wonder if he'd get more chances to pick at her for this right now. Cedar sometimes took to trying to change the topic when he got going and he rather hoped that she wouldn't. It wasn't everyday that someone so adamant about something not existing being proven wrong after all.

Hours had passed after Mari had left and Kemu had gone off to tend to Lika's teachings for the time being. Samickle had to wonder if Kemu would return before Oki did. Though Samickle didn't agree with Mari's decision to leave on her own it didn't seem to be his place to mention it.

As the door to his hut opened Samickle spared a glance, catching sight of Oki. From where he sat Itegami was glancing at the other man though Itegami said nothing. Samickle was thankful for that as he'd rather not have to deal with the situation if the god got bullheaded enough to blurt out Mari's whereabouts. Kemu would be back soon and he might be able to keep things in line better than Samickle could, as much as he hated to admit that.

Samickle didn't answer right away, digging out several scrolls for Itegami to peruse through, assuming the boy could read them. Brushing up on knowledge of himself would do Itegami some could Samickle figured. Only when he'd found and passed those off did he turn to Oki more fully.

"I believe she left something with Kemu for you," Samickle told him instead, "he should be back anytime now after Lika's been sent home."

Turning to survey Oki it didn't take much to figure out the man was confused and would be interrogating further. Samickle shook his head, holding up a hand. He'd at least try to keep things civil even if he was already getting a little annoyed by all of this. It would have just been easier if Mari had said her goodbyes personally rather than in this roundabout manner.

"It is not my place to say. You can wait until Kemu returns," he said.

Waka brushed her words off. He normally always did, so this didn't surprise her. She tried not to become annoyed however. Perhaps he was confident that Moegami would be caught. The way he spoke, that seemed to be the case.

"Well, you certainly seem excited about all of this," she pointed out once.

After that, she withdrew a little, well aware of what Waka would say or do. He often liked to tease her. This was no doubt going to another one of those situations.

Like she thought, he leaned down to her height and prodded her lightly. She shot him a look, unsure of how to retort. She'd been so adamant before. It was hard to say otherwise now that she'd done what she had.

"I don't!...didn't!...I don't really know what I believe anymore." she argued. Rubbing the back of her neck, she realized her face felt hot and dipped her head a little. A moment later, she continued, "I really don't know."

Oki waited patiently. He might have been paranoid but it almost seemed like there was something in the air. He wrote it off for the moment, simply waiting for someone to speak.

It was Samickle who finally spoke. Oki tipped his head, confused by the answer. She'd left something for him? Left? Did she wander off again?

Before he could ask, Samickle lifted a hand an quieted him. The words did nothing to quash Oki's questions. In fact, he only had more of them at this rate. The most he could do is wait quietly.

Minutes passed by slowly before Kemu wandered into Samickle's hut. He glanced up at Oki before handing him folded parchment. "Mari asked me to deliver this," he explained carefully, "She wanted to at least leave you word."

Oki's confusion only grew as he unfolded the parchment. The characters scrawled on the paper were messy but she had tried her hardest to make it legible. What he read left him uncertain.

"She left?" he inquired, a little baffled, "for what? Why did she feel the need to leave? It's dangerous out there, she knows that."

He felt confusion run through him. He wasn't one to get close to many. Somehow, Mari managed to do that despite their arguments at times. It was a strange, warring feeling. He wasn't sure what to do about it.

Waka offered another shrug at her assessment. What wasn't there to be excited about? Moegami was here and as long as there were people in the city he would be easy to spot when he moved about. It was only a matter of time before the god slipped up and Waka could catch and speak with him. With any luck no more fires would spring up though Waka wasn't putting much hope on that thought.

"But of course! What is life without a little challenge, hmm?" he prodded.

His words did little to spur Cedar into any sort of mood, instead she'd withdrawn, perhaps over what had happened. Waka didn't see anything to be sullen about, at least now she would not assume everyone was so crazy as to believe in gods and their power now that she was aware of them herself. Now it was just a matter of Cedar getting a handle on such powers.

Eventually she started speaking up, attempting to defend herself over what had happened. It was clear that she was confused. Waka tipped his head to one side, listening quietly as she spoke. Cedar finally quieted, ducking her head and probably waiting for more teasing from him.

Waka tapped Pillowtalk over her head gently and said, "You're thinking too hard, non? Take things in stride!"

It was just a bit of advice, chances were she'd ignore it entirely though she couldn't say Waka hadn't tried. He'd go right back to teasing her either way. Though she had her moments she could take it, he was sure of that.

For his part Oki hadn't argued or tried to pry for more information from Samickle. That was a small relief, allowing him to get back to work. Now that the blizzards would hopefully come to a halt with Itegami here Samickle could focus on other matters at hand, such as the lack of food. The snowstorms had left them all starved, scrounging and saving what they could. Now the only concern that stopped hunting parties from heading out were the presence of the demons roaming about yet again.

As he had said Kemu eventually came about, letting himself into Samickle's home. It was only then that Samickle pushed aside his work for the time being; too many people proved distracting and it would only help to grate on his nerves quicker. It was best to try to circumvent that even if it didn't help most days.

It was quiet as Oki read Mari's note. Whatever was written in it wasn't something that Samickle could say he knew, Mari hadn't let anyone look at it.

"She said something about a pilgrimage but nothing more," Samickle replied. If nothing else it would give Oki something of an answer whether or not that was the real reason Mari had left or not.

Samickle spared a glance at Itegami and Kemu. The former didn't seem inclined to speak up and perhaps that was for the best, Samickle had already learned that he was too bullheaded for his own good. Oki still didn't seem as if he grasped the situation, perhaps unable to for the moment. Samickle could only hope a fuss wouldn't be kicked up about this.

Honestly it was strange to see Oki getting worked up over someone leaving like this. He'd more or less been a loner, even going so far as to live outside of Wep'keer. Though he protected the tribe he'd never been overly concerned or protective of a single person openly.

Cedar partly expected his answer. He seemed pleased with the idea of a challenge. She wasn't one for such things, preferring less fuss over anything issue. In a way, she had wished the Moegami hadn't been so aggressive and just listened.

That all seemed like something that was hand waved away rather quickly. Cedar was fussy and wasn't sure what to think about this whole thing anymore. Powers and gods were pretty hard to believe in. Accepting that she was was something she wasn't sure she could do.

The tap of his flute on her head caught her attention momentarily. She took the words to heart, thought about them for a moment and then nodded in reply.

"I'll try," she answered, "I suppose that's the best I can manage in this situation."

If he was satisfied with that answer, he didn't really show it. Instead, he folded his arms again, remaining pleasant. He was difficult to read, she gave him that.

"Tap me with that flute again and I'll chuck it," she teased instead, trying to change the subject. At least in that sense, she felt a little lighter.

A hard frown tugged at his lips. Mari was leaving on a pilgrimage? For what? What was she attempting to find?

Oki couldn't say. It wasn't as if she confided in him about it. He had his guesses but that's all they were. Maybe she was trying to find answers, maybe it was something else. For a long moment, he felt a little lost.

"I doubt she'll be gone forever," Kemu brought up, "she may return whenever she wishes to."

Oki had to wonder about that. Would she even return even if she had the chance to? She seemed like a bit of a wild spirit. She didn't care for this place so much in terms of weather or for the lack of things to do.

He shook it from his head, tucking the letter away. "I suppose that is true," he replied, his voice holding a little less alarm in it. He still felt torn but he was starting to quash that feeling.

"I should check on the tribe," he spoke up, creating an excuse, "make sure everything is calm."

With that said, he excused himself for the time being. He had a duty here, protecting the village. That came first and foremost. The worries for Mari, he pushed aside for the time being.

It took Cedar a moment to answer him though she had lifted her head again. That much was an improvement, at least she wasn't ignoring him. Quickly after she was promising to try and Waka spared a smile at that though it might not do her any good with all that was going on now.

The moment was ruined the instant she threatened to throw Pillowtalk away however. The smile slipped away, overtaken by a pout. There was no way he'd allow it to be tossed aside so rudely or recklessly after all. At the very least he could still prod Cedar about it however.

"Naughty!" he chided, wagging a finger at her, "gods should know better than to destroy a person's property, hmm?"

A chuckle left him as he straightened, gesturing to Cedar. It had grown late as he'd chased Moegami and the evening would dawn on them soon enough if they continued to linger about and do nothing. That wasn't exactly an appealing idea to Waka who preferred to be doing something even if it was just pestering Cedar back at the Tao Warrior headquarters.

"Why don't we head back and rest?" Waka offered, "surely the little god is hungry!"

If nothing else they'd get moving and do something. He wasn't sure how the night would go with Moegami within the city's walls but he hoped they would be peaceful even if he also wished to hear word on where the new god was hiding at. The sooner they found him the better.

It had grown quiet for a long while and it seemed as if Oki's attention was still on that letter. Only when Kemu had spoken up, reassuring the man of the possibility of Mari returning one day did that silence break that had stolen over them all. Even then it was quiet for a short while longer before Oki answered.

"You know full well that she's stubborn, if she wants to do something she just does it," Samickle pointed out, perhaps unhelpfully. At least it might give Oki more insight on something that was clearly bothering him however odd that incident was in itself.

Whether or not Kemu or Samickle's statements had helped Oki still put the letter away, sounding and standing more like himself. Samickle spared a nod glad that there wasn't much fuss kicked up over this. His patience wasn't exactly large and little things built up over the day to leave him annoyed. The sooner Samickle could get back to teaching Itegami and get that done with for the day the better.

Before anyone could say anything more Oki was excusing himself, heading out to patrol Wep'keer yet again. Samickle spared parting nod before he'd turned to the two that remained in his hut. Itegami had remained oddly quiet though perhaps the boy was tired or hungry. Both things could lead to taming a person's attitude.

Cedar spared a smile as he pouted. It almost looked like he didn't quite appreciate the turn of the conversation. That topic was one she didn't want to dwell on, gave her too much to think about, so she left it be. Waka would find some way to bring it back up anyways, she was certain.

"Hmm, well, it's different when it's you," she teased in response.

In some respect, she was just glad for the lighter conversation. After today, as eventful as it was, the lighter feelings were more than just welcome. She hoped things would look up from here on out.

She nodded in agreement. The day had been long and she couldn't deny being a little hungry after the short chase. If anything, it would be a short time to relax, as long as Moegami didn't stir up trouble again.

"Sure, that sounds nice," she replied, allowing Waka to lead their way.

Much of the night remained light, teasing here and there when Waka could manage it. She was able to joke back for once, feeling less annoyed with those antics.

They settled in for the night after, though she knew Waka would be on the look out for Moegami.

Samickle's words had more or less been waved off. He knew she was stubborn, fully well as he had said. The young woman was remarkably so. He simply didn't imagine that she'd leave like this. No word, just a letter left for them.

Oki tried not to put too much stock into it. Instead, he patrolled the areas again. Things were still quiet. This gave him something to clear his head.

Wandering amongst the snow drifts, he swore he could have caught her scent. He shook himself, as if to get rid of that thought. It was strange, feeling so riled up over this one girl, or rather, god. It wasn't as if he extended those feelings before.

He worked long into the evening, hunting, doing what he could to aid the village. With Itegami calm, the snow storms didn't hit nearly as long or hard. Perhaps the boy was finally grasping that he was endangering people here.

At some point, Oki returned home. He sat quietly, staring into the fire and continued to clear his thoughts. The next day, he would repeat the process. The tribe needed him. Their safety depended on him. He couldn't let his thoughts of Mari a distraction.

The night had passed as it always did for them. Waka took the time to tease and pick at Cedar, waiting for any sort of word about Moegami's whereabouts and antics. The god could only hide so long before he would be spotted, that was for sure. The thought of the god's dark skin caused Waka to wonder about that however. For gods reigning over Nippon Cedar and Moegami looked different than the people here...

It wasn't until early in the morning did Waka receive any sort of warning about Moegami. At once he was awake, pulling himself up from his nap. Sleep was a luxury while they tried to find and calm the god enough to realize that he needed to take things more seriously.

His sandals clacked loudly as he made his way to Cedar's room, pushing the door open and allowing himself inside. She was asleep, the soft rhythmic breathing enough to let him know this. Waka wasted no time in shaking her awake. Whatever she'd done with those powers of hers it had stopped Moegami from using his own very effectively, if she could do it again she'd be quite the asset for confronting him again.

"Wake-y, wake-y, baby!" Waka called obnoxiously, "it would seem that your assistance is needed!"

Cedar didn't look thrilled to be woken up, shooting him a tired look and moving slowly. Waka had to admit that he was on pins and needles, ready to get out there and find Moegami before he moved and he was lost to them again. From the situation yesterday this might very well happen again despite Waka's best efforts to the contrary.

The morning started as any other for Kai, waking up to find Lika curled up and clutching the blankets closer to her small frame. Kai didn't bother to wake her yet, instead heading out to start breakfast, the fire still burning strong that morning. No Oina let the fire die down, having learned to rouse themselves at several times in the night to feed it.

While she cooked Kai mused over what might happen today. With two gods in the village anything could be possible, especially so with demons roaming the lands again. Kai shook her head, stirring the pot's contents; she'd rather not think about the possibility of more demon attacks. 'Maybe Mari, Itegami or Oki might stop by again today,' she thought instead.

The smell of food filled the small home and would eventually rouse Lika. The little girl would be out and about again that day, learning from Kemu or Samickle. Kai couldn't help but to smile at that, proud of her little sister and what she would accomplish for the Oina Tribe when she was older.

Minutes had passed in this manner before Kai deemed breakfast ready, pulling it from over the fire carefully and reaching for the nearby bowls. Lika would be up by now she assumed, and if she wasn't Kai would be sure to rouse her. The girl needed something warm in her belly before she started her day.

Cedar rubbed at her eyes, trying to quash her annoyance. What did Waka want this early in the morning? She'd finally gotten to sleep too, after days of struggling.

"What is it Waka?" she asked, trying to ignore the slight annoyance in her tone.

She glanced up at him. While he was smiling, there seemed to be some urgency there. She frowned, letting her hands fall back into her lap. He wouldn't have gotten her up if it wasn't important. At least, that's what she had hoped.

"Did you find Moegami?" she inquired further.

Cedar got to her feet, pushing the blankets to the side. In a way, she felt a little good that he needed her help. She just hoped she could provide what he needed.

Oki wandered back to the village after patrolling on and off throughout the night. Everything was quiet for the time being. He would go out again sometime later during the day.

He walked to Kai's wondering briefly if she had heard the news. It seemed that Mari had left her departure to a few select people. Oki shook it from his head again.

Knocking on Kai's door, he pushed his way inside when he got her okay. Lika was already up, sitting with Kai. She glanced over and greeted him cheerfully.

"I take it everything is well?" Oki asked, sitting down near the fire. He appreciated the warmth, chasing away any chill that still lingered in him.

"You were gone a long time," Lika pointed out, "Is Mari coming back soon?"

Oki cleared his throat, trying to push that topic away for later. He wasn't sure how either of them would react, after all.

It was easy to hear the annoyance in Cedar’s voice though Waka just as easily ignored this. Instead he waited for her to rouse herself into a more wakeful state, ready to head out and find Moegami. Waka couldn’t deny that Cedar was a great asset, assuming the water under her control would listen when they needed it most.

Rather quickly she’d asked about the other god and Waka nodded, gesturing for her to hurry and follow after him. They had a small window of opportunity, especially so if Moegami hadn’t been alerted as his warriors had said was the case. There was no telling if anyone else might approach the man and startle him into running and hiding again, hopefully without casualties this time.

“I must admit that water is more effective against fire than a simple prophet such as moi,” he answered with a sigh and a shrug.

Cedar was up and moving quicker now, no doubt just as eager as he was to catch Moegami. The sooner the better, everyone knew that. Luckily she seemed to be an easy-going person and wouldn’t take long to follow after him, especially now.

“Hurry, hurry!” Waka prodded anyways, “no time to lose!”

A knock on the door was heard and Kai quickly called for whoever it was to come in out of the cold. It wasn't much of a surprise that it was Oki, he came around often nowadays it seemed though it almost always was in conjunction with locating Mari. Kai tried not to let that bother her too much, the woman was a god after all so it was natural everyone would want to know where she was and what she might be up to.

Kai nodded and said, "As far as I've heard. I hope everything was all right outside of Wep'keer as well..."

Already Oki had seated himself near the fire before Lika was asking about Mari. The little girl had taken to Mari quickly though that wasn‘t surprising either, Lika was a friendly person and curious to boot. A god in their home would only cause Lika to want to get to know him or her. Kai was honestly waiting for the time when Lika grew just as attached to Itegami at this rate.

Kai‘s eyes flickered to Oki as he cleared his throat; he‘d noticeably not answered. Brow furrowing, Kai wondered what was wrong now. Oki wasn‘t the kind to shy away from things and seeming him do that now with a simple question was unnerving.

“Did something happen?” Kai wondered, shifting her seat. Already the possibilities were running through her mind. Surely if something bad had happened the night would have fallen over them, alerting them all...

Cedar followed after Waka. He'd taken off quicker than she had and his stride was longer. She trotted to his side, glancing up at him momentarily. He was moving quickly and she could understand why.

The reason he needed her left her at tad on edge. She was more than willing to help now that she knew these powers were real. Still, she was inexperienced with them.

"Waka, when I used them the last time, it was completely on accident," she tried to explain, "I don't know how I did it."

She remembered being a little panicked that Moegami wouldn't stop for her. She wasn't even sure where to start on calling upon them. It was difficult to explain really.

Cedar tried to hurry up after him. With those sandals of his, it was becoming difficult. Still, she picked up her pace, keeping closely behind him.

Oki was quiet, trying to think of a way to break this to them. Why Mari didn't tell anyone but the few she had, he couldn't say. He simply did what he could to follow through with her requests.

Finally, he heaved a sigh, shaking his head. "She's left on her own accord," he explained, "she wanted to discover the land on her own. I did not find out until late yesterday evening. She left a letter with Kemu to give to me."

Silence fell onto them. He spared a brief glance at Lika, watching the little girl. He couldn't tell if there was disappointment there or not.

"She will come back though, right?" Lika asked, "She liked it here. She did."

Oki was silent for a brief moment. It was hard to say what Mari thought of this place. The only time he managed to see her was when she was in a bit of a mood due to the cold or studying.

"She may," Oki replied, leaning forward slightly, "it is all up to her, I suppose."

He could hear that pattering of her steps behind him, her pace rushed to keep up with him despite his longer stride. At the very least she wasn’t waiting around for him to explain things or to argue, they had little time. Moegami seemed to be flighty as it was, any little thing could set him off. Waka would rather not see another fire within Sei-an City’s walls.

“Hmm?” he answered, tipping his head to one side as she spoke.

It didn’t surprise him that this argument cropped up. Her grasp on those powers would no doubt be shaky even now though Waka couldn’t just leave her here. If there was even a slim chance that Cedar could do such things again then she would be a great asset in catching Moegami. Even Cedar could not ague against that, of that much Waka was certain.

“Then it will be a test of your control, mon trésor!” Waka chimed.

There was no need to glance over his shoulder to know she was shooting him a look for that. There was no time for that, especially now that they were outside on the walkway. It was a simple matter to grasp Cedar’s waist, tugging her into his side, before leaping down as he’d done so many times in the past. Like the times before Cedar clutched at his clothes tightly, perhaps still afraid that she’d be dropped.

The only answer to her question for a long time was the fire, crackling loudly. Kai could only wait alongside Lika, their gazes on Oki. It seemed to take longer than it really had, perhaps he‘d been trying to think of the words to use. Kai‘s head tilted to one side, unsure of how to take that sort of news.

It was Lika who replied first, quite sure that Mari had liked it here. Kai bit at her lip, the action hidden behind her deer mask. Little Lika had been working hard on something for Mari though she‘d hid it away from even Kai so as not to spoil the surprise, now that the god had left the gift seemed to be for nothing.

“We can at least pray for a safe journey for her,” Kai assured Lika, placing a hand on Lika‘s shoulder. This didn‘t seem to help her much though it was the most Kai could think to do.

Her hand slipped from Lika‘s shoulder then. Lika didn‘t seem to be taking these words well enough at all, perhaps she felt hurt that Mari had left without a goodbye or that Mari had left at all. Kai wasn‘t sure how she felt about this at all. Mari had become a normality in Wep‘keer, someone who was there even if she had few solutions now to the problems people presented her.

“Are you sure she didn‘t say anything about an eventual return, Oki?” Kai prodded gently.

Cedar partly expected that answer. She knew she was a good asset to combat fire, especially if the city was set aflame. That was her greatest worry on top of the people here. She didn't want to see anyone hurt.

She told herself that she had to try. If there was some grasp on it, like he said, then she had to do something. It was the first time she really felt determined when it came to all of this.

The walk way left her shaky and the drop even more so. There wasn't much time to recover from it before Waka was off again.

"Where was Moegami spotted?" she asked, trotting along beside him. He hadn't exactly told her where Moegami was, just that they were going after him. "I didn't expect him to stay in the city."

There had to be something outside of it that caused him to remain inside. She remembered those odd beasts and ominous whispers she heard before Waka had found her. Maybe that's what chased Moegami into the city and why he refused to leave.

"He hasn't hurt anyone, has he?" she inquired further, hoping that she might get a positive answer.

Oki spared a glance between the two. The reaction was obvious enough. Lika was hurt, Kai was worried. He sympathized with them both. It was a confusing thing, having grown close to Mari.

He shifted then, shaking his head. "There was no mention of a return," he explained, "Kemu had offered her a place to return to however. It is not entirely impossible."

Lika still huffed, ducking her head slightly. The girl was hurt, he could understand. She rather liked Mari after all. Not having a chance to say goodbye must have been hard.

"But I never got to give her my gift," she said, her tone glum.

Oki sighed through his nose. This was difficult and there was nothing more they could do about it. All he could offer was his reassurance. "Perhaps she will return one day. You can give it to her then."

He hoped that would be the case. There were many people who cared for her here. She had a home to come back to, if anything at all. He hoped she realized that.

It took Cedar a moment to catch up to Waka again and even then she was trailing along behind him. Their steps clacked loudly on the stone pathway and a few people were out and about already. Many guards were posted along the streets already, their replacements soon to arrive to relieve them at this hour.

"Moegami was nearby last I heard word," Waka said, his words more rushed than usual, "there's little time to lose if we don't want him running off again or it's au revoir again!"

Waka shook his head. It didn't surprise him that Moegami had stayed in the city. Perhaps he'd felt walled in, hiding in one spot for the long hours overnight, maybe he'd fallen asleep even. Moegami might have even known that moving to a new spot meant risking being spotted by someone. Just as predicted it hadn't taken long to find him.

"No casualties, but then little Moegami hasn't been startled yet either," he answered.

From the corner of his eye Waka noticed the way that Cedar tried to pick up her pace again. She was most likely worried about Moegami setting off another inferno as he had the day before. Some people had been hurt in that one, too many people around for that not to happen. Waka was glad to hear that nothing further than injuries had been sustained, things could have easily gone south.

Kai attempted to sooth Lika's mood, rubbing her back. It didn't seem to do much but Kai could at least try. Mari's sudden departure without any sort of warning left them all reeling, it hadn't seemed like something that she would have done at all. If nothing else Kai had thought she'd started to grow comfortable here, even to like it as Lika had said.

"At the very least she knows she's welcome back," Kai confirmed. If no other place felt like home more than Wep'keer to Mari then Kai was sure the moon god would return eventually.

Lika still huffed, slouching further as she mentioned being unable to give Mari the gift she'd worked hard on for days. From the way Lika had been beaming the night before Kai could only guess that her little sister had finally finished it. A shake of her head followed this realization. 'I can't help but feel that Mari could have left at a better time...' Kai mused.

A knock on the door alerted Kai to another visitor. This one was hurried and loud and Kai barely had time to say anything before the door was all but thrown open revealing Samickle. Kai's brow furrowed again, head tilted to one side. Never had Samickle been so rushed that he'd looked so tense, at least not that Kai could recall.

"Is something wrong?" Kai wondered, reaching to tug Lika against her side. The sight of Samickle like this was almost frightening, definitely something to be wary of.

"I need Oki to come with me," Kai didn't need to ask how Samickle knew Oki had been here. All of the Oina Tribe had excellent senses of smell, after all. "There's an incident you need to see, immediately!"

Cedar listened to what information he had. There hadn't been a lot to go on as it was. She tried to ignore that fact. Nervousness clenched at her stomach. Honestly, she was afraid she wouldn't be able to do anything at all.

"Just...we need to try to reason with him," she advised, "post too many guards and he'll run again."

She guessed that he must have had trouble with the law in the past. In that case, of course he'd be frightened of anyone coming after of him. Cedar tried to sympathize even if it was a little difficult.

"That's good to hear," she answered, trying to keep pace with him, "I'm afraid for those kids..."

Cedar spared a quick glance around. There were some guards littered about here and there. She hoped they wouldn't try to get too involved with Moegami here. It would only cause him to run again.

"They made me these cute little charms," she started to explain further, "they're good kids...I don't want to see them get hurt."

Oki heaved a sigh at the glum mood that Lika was in. There was little they could do about it now. Mari was always welcome back here, that was the best hope they could cling to.

"There is that," he answered, "I have faith that she will return when she finds what she needs. We have to understand, she is confused without her memories."

His words didn't seem to improve Lika's mood. She was young and while she was special, she was still very much a child. Things like this would not bounce off of her easily.

Before there was a chance for any further conversation, a knock interrupted them. Oki lifted his head, watching as the man came in. The way he announced something was to be seen, Oki knew it was urgent.

Oki pushed himself to his feet. "Of course," he answered. Glancing back at the girls, he motioned to them. "Stay inside. It is for the best."

With that said, he followed Samickle outside. There was an a feeling around him, fear and confusion. What had the man startled so badly?

"What was found?" Oki asked, if a little curious. If it was another demon, a strong on, it could be defeated easily with a group. He hoped that would be the least of their troubles.

Waka shook his head. From the sounds of things Moegami had ran and tried to hide again when he'd thought he'd been spotted by civilians. It wouldn't matter who tried to approach him and for what reason, Moegami would bolt either way. The best they could hope for was to catch him off guard and manage to stun him long enough to speak to him as Cedar had somehow managed the day before.

"It matters not, he'll run either way," Waka said out loud, "we need to surprise him and slow him down."

Their pace did not slow as Waka lead them down the streets. They'd need to take the alleys and cut through yards the closer they got to Moegami's last known location however. It would be best not to be with groups of people when they found him so as to minimize any casualties. With any luck Moegami's power would not send another home or business up in flames as well.

Waka blinked, glancing at Cedar when she spoke of a group of children in the city. He wondered what sort of charms they'd made her before shaking the thought away; there was time enough for that later.

"We will see to it, non?" Waka prodded, elbowing her arm as he spoke. The least he could do was keep the mood light until they actually spotted Moegami.

Already they were nearing the place and Waka gestured for Cedar to follow him further. He cut across an elderly couple's yard, the grass silencing his steps and though they gave them odd looks the couple said nothing and continued to tend to their small garden. Waka was well-known enough around the city that many let him do as he please most days.

Though Kai and Like were peering at him curiously Samickle couldn't afford to stop and explain things, not when Samickle wasn't even sure of what had happened. If no one had gone to check on Tuskle he feared how long this would have gone unnoticed. Thankfully Oki followed him out of the door quickly, leaving the girls behind.

Only when they were both back outside did Samickle shift into a wolf, the transition as effortless as breathing. Oki would quickly follow suit as Samickle lead them up and out of the village to Tuskle's. Samickle only hoped nothing more had happened to the woman out there with what had already happened.

"It's Tuskle," he answered as they went, their paws padding over the snow easily, "there's no evidence of a demon around or a cursed zone; we're not sure what happened."

Samickle picked up the pace. Without any sort of snowstorm or blustering wind to slow them down today Samickle could afford to move quickly without fear of getting lost heading up the slope. He just hoped that nothing would blow in or that Itegami would cause anything. The boy was still unpredictable after all.

The run to Tuskle's was quiet, Samickle focusing on speed over informing Oki of anything further. There wasn't much more to be said and it would be better for him to see Tuskle's fate anyways. Pushing himself to move quickly, snow kicking up into the air with each stride, Samickle got them there in good time, the slope nothing for them as wolves. Only then did he slow, jerking his head towards Tuskle's home.

Just outside the door Tuskle stood, frozen and turned to stone. Samickle had only ever heard of such instances happening to those within a cursed zone, left that way until someone found a way to remove it. Here there was no such thing, merely Tuskle.

Cedar was a little disappointed that Moegami had simply continued to run from help. If he'd only stop and listen, things would end quicker. Cedar didn't care for the thought of resorting to violence to solve things.

"So what do you want me to do? Try and drown him?" she asked, though it was in a bit of a joking manner. She was aware that if they just cornered him, she might not have to rely on her powers at all.

Waka jab at her elbow gently, trying to keep the mood light. The kids would be fine as long as they got to Moegami before anything else was set aflame.

They passed an elderly couple who shot a look but nothing more. "Are we getting close?" she asked quietly, almost afraid that being any louder would scare the guy off.

She glanced around and could have sworn she saw a splash of white nearby. She tensed, waiting on what Waka would do. Cedar would follow suit only because her powers had yet to develop any better.

Oki followed after Samickle as quickly as his legs could carry him. The urgency here concerned Oki greatly. It was rare that Samickle was ever shaken. The fact that he was worried said a lot.

Silently, Oki tried to figure out what could have happened. No answers came to mind. That was troubling enough as it was. Whatever had happened to Tuskle, Oki could only wait and see.

Minutes passed slowly as they raced to the area Samickle wanted to show him. Coming to a trot and then halt, Oki studied the figure. Tuskle was frozen, turned to stone.

Oki glanced at Samickle, alarm shooting through him. "We have no idea how this happened?" Oki inquired.

Samickle had claimed that before but what if something was missing? Maybe they were overlooking something small. He couldn't be sure until he looked about.

Lifting his head, he sniffed the area. A snort followed after. The place smelled of evil. Oki shook himself as if that would rid him of that foul stench.

"Something was here...but how did it manage to do this?" he asked no one in particular. He was thinking out loud, trying to make sense of what happened.

Cedar was soon asking what he expected of her and though she was joking she wasn't entirely off the mark. Moegami wasn't powerful enough that being drenched in water would matter little to the effectiveness of his power. No, it had looked to Waka that it had dampened the flames that had threatened to erupt from him the day before. With any luck this was not just a stroke of luck on their part.

"You're not completely off the mark, ma chérie," he pointed out, "it is hard to create a fire when the source is damp."

Waka had eventually slowed his pace after they left the elderly couple behind them. They would need to be careful now. It wasn't as if Waka was subtle, his clothes alone were a beacon along with his headdress. No doubt Moegami would be keeping an eye out for him, possibly on the rooftops as Waka had done the day before. No, he would take the low ground today just in case.

Cedar was wondering if they were close though Waka couldn't be sure. Moegami was easily spooked and could have easily moved. The sun had begun to rise by the time they got out and about and had even started down the streets after all.

"Close to his last sighting, oui," Waka answered.

He said nothing after that, keeping his eyes peeled. He had no intent to harm Moegami but if it came to it a fight might be necessary even if the god would ordinarily be more powerful than Waka. At this level of control Waka wasn't too concerned about himself but of the collateral damage that might come of that route. It would be easier to sneak up and subdue him quickly after all.

From the corner of his eye Waka noticed Cedar tense, glancing off somewhere. Waka stopped, following her gaze, looking for what had left her in this state. If she thought she saw Moegami she hadn't said anything yet.

Samickle had come to a stop, glancing back at Oki. The area here was saturated in the scent of evil, tainted as it was, though it did little to clear matters up. Any noticeable evidence of what might have transpired here had been wiped away or nonexistent to begin with. This left Samickle on edge, no lesser creature could have done something like this and only powerful cursed zones had been the culprits for things like this before.

"No. Someone had come to visit Tuskle and found her like this, it has just been brought to my attention a short while ago," Samickle admitted, frustration welling up in his chest. The demons were enough to worry about but now something even worse was lurking here.

At his side Oki had taken to sniffing the air, shaking himself quickly after. The scent was unmistakable even if one had never before smelled it. It left Samickle's hackles rising, putting him further on edge. There was no telling how far whatever had done this had gotten or if it still lingered nearby.

Though Oki spoke up it wasn't hard to tell that he only spoke to himself, as if to divine the answers from thin air. Samickle huffed, his breath coming out in a great cloud and disappearing quickly. If they knew that much they wouldn't be so lost, would have some time to prepare for it to come back. Surely it wouldn't stop just because there were more of them in the village than here.

"Any tracks have been blown over," Samickle pointed out, "whatever has done this is powerful." It was left unspoken but Samickle feared for the Oina if they could not find and stop the culprit.

The answer was a straight forward one. For Cedar, she was a little grateful. If she could call upon her powers, things would be fine. At least, she hoped that would be the case.

Things quieted after that. They must have been getting closer now that there was a little bit a silence. Waka was looking about as well, searching out Moegami.

She frowned, squinting her eyes. The flash of white was there and gone down another building. She tugged at Waka's sleeve, pointing in that direction.

"He's there," she said quietly, "he ran down that way. What are we going to do?"

If Waka was going to cut him off, he needed to do it quickly. Cedar was sure she needed to take a moment before she could all onto her powers. She wasn't sure if she could do it or not but she hoped so.

"Cut him off and I'll try to get my powers to work?" she suggested after a long moment.

The answers he was receiving weren't positive ones. Oki had hoped for some clue, something that he could start with. Instead, he was left with nothing but a foul scent and a frozen woman.

He resisted pacing though it was difficult. No footprints, no note of a demon, nothing to go on. He resisted growling. What if this happened to the rest of the village as well? What could he do.

"I can not protect anyone if I don't know what did this," he replied impatiently. "What about Itegami? Has he felt anything odd since coming here?"

The boy was a god even if he didn't believe it. He would have sensed something. Oki hoped that was the case.

"Is he at least talking yet?" Oki urged, "I know he wasn't exactly pleased with his position the night before."

Itegami had to cooperate. The fate of the entire tribe could lay on his shoulders if he did not. He could guard them from this evil, whatever it was, as he grew stronger. It was hard for Oki to admit but it was the truth.
